  • Welcome!
    We are a homesteading, homeschooling family of 7. Due to recent events (job loss/career change, health issues, rising food costs, etc.) we are having a hard time making ends meet despite our best efforts at frugality. So we are tapping into our local food banks to help us feed our family. Come along as I show you what we are blessed with, what we add to it via grocery store and garden, and how I use it all to nourish our bodies.
    Thanks for watching and God bless!

    We live in Texas near Houston and we have had 23 days this month that have been above 100 degrees. We hit in the 80 degrees around midnight. Please pray we get some rain. I don’t know how many days we have been without rain. We heard thunder today and got excited but the rain went around us 😊. Our window units can’t keep up either and we live in a 600 square foot home. God bless you all.

      My son lives in Austin, he came to a funeral the other day in the Midwest. He was glad for a reprieve from the heat from Texas for a couple of days. God Bless!

    We have always donated to our local food banks to help people in need. Usually, school groups, churches, activities such as Cub Scouts organize the drives and deliver the food to the food pantries where cans are checked for expiration dates, dents, etc and then distributed to the people in need. We have never collected the kinds of items that you have in this haul. The types of food and the amount that you got is quite surprising! Enjoy your bounty!

      Our church collects for local banks during Vacation Bible School.
      A lot of the not shelf stable things and more perishable items are donated from grocery stores. Things that are due to be tossed out because of "expiration" dates.

    make sure you check the ingredients for the "fish" broth- a lot of vegan broths will rely on things like onion and garlic for the flavor, both of which can be very bad or toxic for cats! thanks for sharing.

    OK, so the fish broth would be good with noodles and spam and a dash of chili and lemon for a more Asian soup :) Add a little ginger when you're sick

    Thanks for showing the cat food ! We do try to get that along with dog food at my food pantry , sometimes we receive donations from our animal shelter. This looks like a great variety this week , Mrs Willow . Hope it cools off soon

    Lots of snacks this round! Lately I have been getting a ton of Peanut Butter. I did get less last week. A 1lb. of ground beef, 2 sweet potatoes, and 1 pasta, 2 cans of veggies. Not much BUT still very useful. I can't shop until next Friday! I was under by .90 in my transactions and was given a $5 fee! ugh... I'm working only 3 days this week and hubby couldn't go trucking for a week because it was SLOW! The following week I work over 40 hours :) Time to catch-up! But definitely not shopping soon! Probably next 2 weeks! Thank GOD for the food pantry and Goodwill!

    I use konjac. It's very neutral and takes on the taste of the sauce you use. The one I get is japanese and in packed in water so you need to rinse it before use. I use the noodles for stir fry which just take 2 or 3 minutes to cook.

    I understand the heat, here in AZ we have had 45 consecutive days of 110+ temps and we live in a manufactured home and we use window units. The poor window units have ran and ran like crazy. Very thankful for our fans, I bought a socket fan for my kitchen and it has made a huge difference working in there.

    I eat konjac noodles because I am trying to avoid carbs and lose some weight so that I don't develop type 2 diabetes. I've never tried the nuPasta brand but I'm sure those will be fine. The key is to rinse them under water and then drain them in a colander before heating and serving. I find these noodles to be a bit rubbery but they allow you to have the flavor of a pasta sauce without all of the carbs and calories in pasta.. Konjac noodles are pretty pricey. Each one of those containers would cost you close to $6 at the grocery store. Those Love Good Fats Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough bars would cost you $30+. Those were some amazing finds. As far as the Fish broth goes, I would try using that in a chowder of some sort with potatoes, corn and clams or chicken. You can season it to make it taste however you want it to.

    My 3 winter white hamsters who are sisters and now spilt up. They are the most wonderful and cute hamsters who help me with my mental health and just function. They do sleep with me in their washing up bowl with stinky fluffy toilet roll. They are enjoying chicken, meal worms, blueberries, peanuts in shells - they can bite through the shells etc. Their food is mixed with bird seed too. Enjoy and hug all the kids too.

    Love this video! Excuse my ignorance, but fish is in no way vegan... so wouldn't that just be vegetable broth? Maybe just not as robust? Either way, if it had a fish smell I'd be concerned as then someone has made a synthetic fish smell just for broth!

      We have 2 acres with no close neighbors (about 1/4 mile away at least.) We have 2 adults and 3 older kittens (born this spring). We had another adult, old female cat but she passed away a couple months ago. She was an amazing hunter. I am going to miss her.

      Fed is best. It is best not to judge. What I see is a loving mother and family, providing for her kids and keeping them healthy and full. Things can change overnight, for anyone, I pray you never have to feel this kind of stress and financial strain. However, do not judge how this woman provides for her family.

    • @cathymachia385
      @cathymachia385 11 місяців тому +1

      She has the choice to pick and choose for her family. I’m just saying she should pick healthier options instead of snacks, like fruit. She and her kids to always have “stomach issues” which could be related to all the unhealthy food they eat. Just my thoughts. I’m not saying that she shouldn’t go to the food pantry, but she should make better choices.

    • @AngieGryszan-gw9gz
      @AngieGryszan-gw9gz 11 місяців тому +2

      Its a food pantry not a grocery store! There's not always fruit and veggie choices and she does choose those things when they offer them.

    • @weepingwillowhomestead
      @weepingwillowhomestead  11 місяців тому

      The food pantry does not provide all the food we eat. If you go look at my channel videos you'll find grocery Hauls as well that are almost totally fresh veggies, fruits and meat. The pantries do the best the can.
