YG once said along the lines of " I'm harsh but the industry harsher. I say things that you will hear 10 times more from others who don't know you and going in unprepared will have a impact on you compared to having a thick skin from the getgo". He also pushes them and if they already break in their trainee years... they aren't ready for the real harsh industry.
His friendly attitude towards J team is heartwarming. J team already going away from home to pursue their dream.... his father role is showing.

@Black Treasure it's always funny yet sad to see the same people who want the the trainees to be treated with kitty cloves .. but fun to watch when the artist be just as hard-core while judging others. Take Lisa or Hoony for example. People enjoyed their tough exterior when on a judging program... while the man who taught them get backlash for wanting to see the best come out of the artists. YGs legacy speaks for itself. Those who whine either don't care to understand the artist's choice of agency or what they became after debuting...or the motives behind such approach from the boss.
@Black Treasure couldn't have said it better. There is so much misinformation and misunderstanding that came forth out of hate. The hero complex some fans have is a serious concern. They totally disregarded the trainees or artists perspective , choice of agency and opinion on their own career. Few haters have misunderstood yg and now have huge platform where they continue this to go on to the point new fans don't know better... or don't even care to research. I feel soo hurt seeing YHS being treated like that while the same fans think the artist did it all without help. SMH...
YG never planned on having 13 members from the very beginning, around the later episodes (I think it was on the finals stage), he commented that he was amazed that even with a lot of trainees on the stage, the performance surprisingly looks satisfying and he finds it interesting. As a long time YG Stan, we know how much he hates the idea of having many members in a group, I think it was a character development for him that he started to appreciate the idea of a 13 member group.

As a old ygstan... I partly agree.
YG dislike for huge groups are from his values of individualism in groups. Bigger groups have harder time showing this than smaller ones. Some members have less lines or opportunities to shine being with more members. His idea was two groups Magnum and TREASURE till the end of 2018. Creating a 2 in 1 group but still upholding his value. That way they were stil together yet apart to showcase their talent in groups. When Yoonbin left he combined the two. His true reasoning is still unknown... mayb it was the boys who wanted it or the dynamic changed in the group yoobin left and they wanted to give 12 member group " idol image" a shot.
Yangsa has done so much for the kpop industry... doing something like this shows he is comfortable with his decision and his staff to put the together and showcase it can be done with 12 , 5, 4 or 2. It isn't about characters development.. but straight up confidence in his artist and staff.
@@isaactalksmusic It was not YG who put the group into 13.... it was originally 7 members. Weeks/months after YG decided to have another group, MAGNUM. They should be 2 groups. When YG left his own company the new CEO drcided just to make it 13 members. Most TREASURE members now didnt even make the final round.

ALSO, THIS SHOW REALLY SHOWCASED JUNKYU'S POWERFUL VOCALS, AS WELL AS JEONGWOO'S. Hopefully they can showcase it again soon, now that people are forgetting how beautiful and impactful their vocals are.

I know many comments pointed this out already, you will soon notice on the next episodes, the trainees care more about YG's thoughts about them than anyone else. People (non-YG stans) who have watched YGTB always say that he is harsh on the trainees, but if you will watch YG survival shows from the beginning (since BIGBANG DOCU) he was way more harsh. There was one time when he eliminated Seungri and Hyunseung from BIGBANG, he said it's hard not to get attached to the trainees, but he has to think from a producer/business point of view as the CEO. In another survival show, WIN Who Is Next -- when the WINNER was announced, he was teary eyed -- coz he cares about his trainees. It's not like he loves tormenting the kids, it's for their own good. I'm not defending him or anything, sure there are times that he crosses the line, but look at his artists, they never disappoint.
And regarding visual, YG was known to not care for looks/visuals when it comes to choosing trainees, they only care about talent back then. When BIGBANG debuted they were called "ugly" by knetz. TOP once said in an interview that they were hurt when people called them that. In many YGTB reactions I've watched, they thought YG only cares for looks, but YGTB was actually the first time that YG said they will consider looks in looking for trainees.

Trueee! YGTB is the first time that yg cared about the looks because just like what he said this is their first time to make a group that have more visuals. I'm just little bit annoyed to those people who said that YG CARED MORE ABOUT THE LOOKS THAN TALENT!! liek?! It's like a slang in YG entertainment for dancing soo good that it makes others want to dance too and feel what you want to express. From the way you use your expression and how you use your body and stage.

WHY IS HE SO DIFFERENT
You should also take note that the editing and sound effects that only makes it "dramatical" but actually YHS's comments are usually straight to the point based on a Producer and CEO's perspective. He's not there to just judge them like a typical judge in a competition show, he is the one who actually produces the group so he need to be like that to them.
Another thing, dramas dont exist among the trainees because they've been closed before the survival show filming began, you can see their dynamics on other contents in the same YGTB channel. They even did react to the whole episode altogether (but its cut short). Its not just us who see the "drama" but the trainees themselves.
The drama actually here is him putting Treasure A in slightly lower positions so there will be dynamics in the show. *This is still a show* lol. It adds to the viewers interest if the unexpected trainees gets higher. At the same time, it also made way for the other trainees to go up and get the support they deserve. If he just let TREASURE A get the spots then the survival show loses its purpose.
I love how yg kept trying to narrow down all the members that he liked the most, from like 7 to 6 to 5 and stuff, but just ended up going with all 13 lol. Thats exactly how we feel when we say we can't pick just one bias in Treasure :)

Maybe YG also sympathize us fans especially those who were there that time & beg to pls debut them all cause they really deserve it
He did not lie nor used it for the sake of the show... You can see older group having few people in it like bigbang and 2ne1... I mean, its easier to make few people boom in popularity since they can focus and highlight them all easily in their releases, so fewer members is ideal.
At first it went 7 like iKON, but the landslide of support made them create a newer plan for the new group. IN ACTUALITY, THEY ARE READY to debut some of them after the 7 since they already formed MAGNUM after Treasure7.
If that plan continued, we'll have like WINNER(2014) and iKON(2015)... So technically it will still be fewer members per group (7 for treasure and 6 for magnum) But this time they mixed all of them into one, which is their first time. And maybe it also aligned to their target to create the most idol-like group from YG, and Idol trend recently is having big members so they go with it.
But honestly tho, they are doing a great job for managing TREASURE so far... Yes, what we want may not have been done yet, but there are also unexpected thing we had, especially if I compare it to the older promos of YGAs.
- if you are street casted yes you can get in just for your good looks... But of course there will always be monthly evaluations and assessments esp at big company like YGE... Like how how Jae proved himself.. no one there has had reputation is being just a visual.
You won’t believe how SM entertainment is more looking and into visual than YG x2 so I think YG is still okay 😂 (Every k-entertainment is like that)
Understandable about the initial feelings towards YG. Over the years, my opinion is that he is using his criticisms to make them better and tougher. Knetz are even more harsh and uncaring, so this in some way, prepare them for the harsh reality of the industry that is not buffered by their fans. I believe that a lot of his coldness on this show is part for show and part for motivation.
I think he pit all these trainees against each other so none of them will get complacent, especially the highly favorable TeamA. Their talent and accomplishments are much deserved, but YG is sending the message that there are younger and even foreign trainees out there who can match up and even overtake you.
It's a learning process with any Entertainment industry, and especially one from a different culture and value/standards.
I think the Korean industry puts a high value on the visual appeals of their entertainers, so that plays a huge factor, for example, the street castings. I suppose it is better to find someone who is already visually appealing, where you can invest money to train them and hone their skills in vocals and dance, rather than, say, have someone talented, but go the option of cosmetic surgery?
Sorry for rambling. It's mixed feelings with YG a lot of the time. There are problems for sure, but his treatment of his artists has not yet, to my knowledge, been extreme enough to involve the courts between the artist and the company.

So true. I saw WIN and MIX&MATCH, so painful. I cried for almost 2 months when team B was eliminated and cried again while watching M&M. Yg is really soft in YGTB.

We are now on the 2nd episode!!! The competition heats up and the drama intensifies. HONESTLY THIS SHOW GOT ME CONFUSED AT THE END but this show really helped me appreciate TREASURE even more, especially talent-wise.

He's always harsh on the people that he likes. He is a tough love kinda guy I think. I remember he was also very harsh to GD as well.
I think you are not familiar with Visual position. In Kpop, Visual or Center is a position in a group beside dancer, singer, rapper. All others groups from others company have Visual or center position. YG never have this position (maybe except Jisoo from BP), so this time he wants to try something new, he mentioned in the last episode that he did care about visual.

YG did not focus on visual, but they have top tier visuals like Sandara, Jisoo and TOP.

Byunggon and Seunghun *CIX*

Junkyeok he went abroad for studying and made UA-cam account but now not sUre what he is doing
Kotaro is a soloist and also doing some music with his friend..and some trainees went for acting
Other member are studying and not go for celeb path and some still a trainee maybe unde YG or diff company
But all of them including TREASURE they all still support each other..Like posting and congratulating each other when they debut..And some member like Kotaro even like video about Teume defebding TREASURE from haters 😂..And Even some went to Treasure 1st private stage concert😊

Dont get too ahead of yourself and just Enjoy the Process to feel how we felt before. I'm a Fan since Kpop star Yedam to Mix9 Hyunsuk.. and this show caused alot of heartattacks and heartbreaks but ultimately, I supported the Results and a Happy Teume now😍

- lollolol I really like your reaction everytime YG would give his comment... 'ohh here we go' lol. As a YG stan, me too cant predict what YG comment and why he pick this, pick that. When i watched YG Treasure box with my friend 3 years ago, we sometime complain with his judge and of course... most of fans that time even complain with the debut list. There's some member that fans that time think are not deserve to debut yet. And that fans including me and my friend. But it's our mistake for judging his judge that time... YG already in this business for 22 years and he already become a father of great groups from Bigbang to blackpink. Look at Treasure now... all member shine, an all rounder group. The member brotherhood and bond are really strong and beautiful. YG's pick never disappointed. You will got shocked with his judgement in the future episodes, so prepare your heart lol. But remember, whenever i saw his judgement in YG treasure old clip... finally i understand what his cruel and weird judge meant after i see Treasure now as an artist. Just like my brother (non kpop person) said, YG is a visioner... every move he make maybe look weird to most of people now but will blow every poeple mind in the future.
- As for visual.... don't worry, YG never prioritize visual. YG artist is all about talent and charisma. Just like he said in previous and this episode, the street casting scout trainee for trainee B actually is a new method in YG for his new group, team B almost all of them are beginner and 2 of member are replace by Jihoon and Yoonbin in eps 1. And of course just like YG said... it's the first time in 22 years, YG pick visuals for the first competition and actually it's just for the show lol so dont worry. Because in the end, skill and charisma are prioritize... YG just love making drama in the show, that's all hahaha
- Reminder, every harsh comment to the trainee especially to Hyunsuk, it's to sthrengthen their mental and also so the trainee not easily satisfied with their performance so they keep growing and find another skill... especially to Hyunsuk because YG already saw his leadership potential

1. His criticism is harsh harsh but actually his judgement is always straightforward and clear, if they didn't perform well he will straight say that they didn't do a good job. But once his response towards the perf is good he rlly meant it. This is one of the things that i like about his professionalism on judging each of his trainees. And i can feel his careness towards the trainees, he was being kiiinda brutal (actually here he was too soft compared to iKON and winner back then) bcs he once said that the entertainment, the kpop industry, the world that they facing will be so much rude to them so it's better for them to prepare themselves mentally since trainee days.
2. Believe me when YHS critics a trainee so often eventho in ur eyes as the viewer nothing should be criticized from the trainee's perf and skills, just think that it means he likes them and he is planning on debuting the trainee as the leader of the group. This was what happened to iKON B.I and Hyunsuk. He saw leadership potential in them so he want to test them mentally if they deserve the leader position or not by always give harsh criticism to them. And now we can see hyunsuk as trsr leader. B.I also, he is a former iKON leader until he left the group.
3. Actually, that time was the first time YG rlly picks visuals. Originally YG was the only company that never care about looks, they just focus on talent, even their artist excpt BP often got hates just bcs their looks is nothing fabulous like artist in other companies such as SM that basically rlly focus on visual.

I keep saying over and over again that we all can't compare and shouldn't be even comparing Yedam and Jeongwoo first and foremost. They both have beautiful voices, yes... but their style is so different with each other to begin with. They give off such different technique and vocal ability. I honestly thought YG should be the first and last person to do that "comparison thing" between them, cos it doesn't really make sense at all. I'm just happy that they got to debut together in the same group. Imagine having the two best vocalists from two different teams back when they were trainees and spicing it up more by adding Junkyu on the team as well. Ugh! The Vocal Trinity gives off so much power, for real. They're incredible!
Isaac dear read carefully, YG said let's try something that YG never do before. Which visual. It's mean visual is not the important for YG. Talent is. But he just wanna see how his visual trainees show their talents beside their face
There are people who just become better and disparate when they heard harsh words.Saying straightforward what they're lacking helps them do even more better,after all look at YG artist,they are really solid.

I understand the initial feeling if this was the first time you watch YHS gave criticism with yg trainees specially with their survival shows, infact every kpop survival shows were harsh lol and this is their system for a long time. The thing also about the old man is that he doesn't sugar coat things, he's straightforward. He may tend to go harsh, but take note that their entertainment industry is 10 times more harsher than him specially with some broadcasting agencies🙄 and when you do better he will give you compliments that you deserve.
True. Every YG groups (including girl groups) went through the same process. But i understand why this harsh survival program is shocking for new YG stans 😄

YG is the best main producer I could ever see. If you know mixnine and the way jyp commented to junkyu about his talent is unacceptable. That's why junkyu loses his confidence in the treasure box but YG never said that to any trainee in this all episodes. If you don't change and grow in every assessment they won't say anything but they will get you out. I mean it's more humane than saying bad words about your talent. Hope you get my point 😁

YG did not lie that time. The initial plan was really to debut a boy group with around 5-7 members, because that's like their tradition. It was not in their plan to debut a 13 (now 12) member group.
Even after YGTB, they only introduced 7 members as final TREASURE. And then MAGNUM came in the picture, with 6 members. Now, they were suppose to debut those 2 groups (treasure and magnum) separately and then promote as one (but still have separate activities) under the name TREASURE13.
Yoonbin's departure changed their plan again, and TREASURE13 became TREASURE. Magnum and Treasure (w/ 7 members) didn't happen. YGE decided to debut them all in one group.

The reason why mama Watanabe was so hyped during Seungri's concert is cuz he's part of bigbang and they are her ults (and at that time he was the only one touring cuz the other 4 members where already in the military, so it was basically the last concert bb would have). Actually (and you should know this too Isaac, since haruto said in Tmap season 1), mama Watanabe is Taeyang biased.
I understand you about their looks but in Korea looks/visuals is so important & big deal to them that's one thing I don't understand on their knetz plus if you're not strong & get bullied your career might ruin thankfully I Stan YG from the very beginning which searching for talented ones & looks is just a bonus

no matter what others say for me as being into this kpop journey since 2008 YG is the best in the industry whether it be treating their artists or employees or the pays... we all see and hear the criticisms around YG from the haters, media, netizens and even fans but at the end of the day we all know YG is all about its artists only nothing else (yeah obviously there will be money coz that's how both the artists and the company survives without money no one can survive) ...if YG is really that bad towards its artists then why no one until now has problem with YG, instead former YG artists always talks about how YG is to them and why they leave YG (people thinks its bcoz they have problem but the real reason is that YG was too comfortable for them to the point that they wanted to take new challenges) forget about just artists most of the employees in YG are there since the very beginning of the company... YG is listed as one of the top 100 companies to work in Korea and YG was the only entertainment company on that list... YG has been doing lots of works not only for kpop but for the society also they have been donating funds in hospitals and other charities to help the needs but no one talks about it bcoz its not a headline worth news since it cannot bring down YG with such news... every kpop companies are under the high officials (I won't disclose the name but there's a conglomerate company who rules the entertainment world in Korea) but YG isn't one of them so they are always the prey/target of those people ....

However, if YG say only good things or doesn't rank can't take responsibility or have good skills to achieve their job as an idol, so they have no choice but to use this harsh system.
And although the heavy image of hip-hop has established the perception that YG is the most strict and difficult for people, the training methods of small and medium-sized agencies are actually more informal and harsh.
The sad thing is that YG is a large company, so it takes a large amount of money and time to invest in trainees, and trainees from small and medium-sized agencies even have poor practice spaces.
Lastly, I am a Korean who is watching TREASURE's reactions well. I'm not trying to defend Korea's harsh training, but I just wanted to tell you why it's such a system.
