Whisky .com tastes the Talisker 10 years old.
    Nosing:
Strong, full, big peat smoke, seaweed, citrus, some spiciness in the back
    Taste:
Strong, fresh ground black pepper, sharp, in the back some fruits and oak
    Finish:
The sharpness is dissolving and the spiciness stays longer

Even though Talisker is often advised not to be a good starter whisky, it's the first whisky I tried that I really enjoyed. I love this stuff. :)

I never understand why people say not to introduce people to strong single malts. Honestly I always start with the stronger ones and they get people's attention immediately. Starting with some boring ones will not do much to people new to whisky tbh. My advice would always be to start with stronger, more intense ones both peated and un-peated

It was my second single malt and although it was weird in the first or second taste it came as a "good weird", I wanted to drink it again and again to understand it. Really great starter for me

Good evening. Six years later and i find this video, having just bought and tasted the Talisker 10 years. I am only a beginner but i just find it fascinating to taste and explore the subtle flavours and aromas of a good whisky. The whole process of reading, opening, serving, smelling and tasting is amazing. As a beginner, i still find it hard to tell all these flavours, but with the first 2-3 sips, i can say this whisky is very nicely strong and warm at the same time. To my totally unexperienced mouth, it is leaving a "wooden", peppery and slightly salty taste, with very subtle traces of sweetness in the end. Fantastic. I chose this particular whisky, wanting to avoid something fruity and very sweet, and i think i made the right choice.
The warmth it gives in the end is something incomparable.
Thanks a lot for the review.

Dear Master, thank you for the exceptional description of the Talisker 10's true character. Your ability to sense the complexities and nuanced flavours of anything you taste is beyond extraordinary. It's a true learning experience to watch your videos and then try the whisky myself. To my mind, this is one of the finest whiskies you can get on the market for a fair price. The more I drink it, the more I can picture how it could easily be consumed along with some high quality smoked salmon and brown bread as suggested on the box. Smokey to the nose, salty on the tongue. Spicy and peppery. What a masterpiece, made by the see!

Excellent summation, Horst. I might say that Talisker 10yo has more of a white pepper note than a black pepper note? More fiery than pungent, or at least that is my differentiation between the two pepper notes. Without sounding too literal, black pepper tastes dark and wide and white pepper is bright and "sharp".
It's a great "opener" whisky despite being such a big hitter. I like following it up with a big Islay. Talisker really seems to "prime your taste buds" for something big and loud like an Ardbeg or Lagavulin.
I've come to realise that I shouldn't "use" so many "quotation" marks, however the arbitrary nature of trying to vocalise what we find in whiskies often seems to require it....
    Keep up the good "work"!

tbh the 'gargling' used to bemuse me. now when i drink, which is typically at home, this method just brings out so much more in the malt. i love it. and btw, im tasting this talisker 10yo like i havent before.

Oh dear me this is a NICE malt..... VERY MUCH has that sea maritime interlaced with smoke and dried fruit sweetness. Some bitterness creeps in to overlie everything else going on with a peppery finish. The smoke and oak bitterness fades along with the sweetness-----but that smoke returns and remains a whisper on the palate long after the last sip............. Just beautiful...

Having a dram of this right now. An excellent scotch. Managed to pick a bottle up for 30 euros (!) On sale at a local store. Incredible value for money.

Actually, Talisker 10 was my own introduction to proper whisky and this is the whisky that made me a whisky lover. So, it depends, are your friends able to handle a proper drink? If so, this whisky may change their entire perspective on whisky, like it did for me.

    List behind Lagavulin 16

I just tried this whisky yesterday and it is delicious! A lovely smokey woody flavor, but no bitterness. The pepper also kicks in, giving a wonderful white pepper and spice flavor and a sort of fruityness that reminds me of dried fruits. A wonderful whisky.

Extraordinary malt. Like a campfire on Skye. Have yet to come across another malt so enchanting as this one. The other expressions - distillers edition and the 18 - bring even more to the table.

    Thanks for the review Horst!
We just bought a small bottle of the 10yo to try "step up the game" from the American stuff - And had to watch a review of it at the same time tasting it ourselvs, I'm kind of new to this, but can feel the same as you descibe, and it was good. Maybe a tit to powerfull for my taste just now. My girlfriend really liked it, and I continue the search for "my" Whisky! :)

Min favorit.

Talisker 10 is between 18-22 ppm. I like it a lot when I'm in the mood for a lightly peated scotch. (Mostly I like heavely peated scotch)

I had a talisker 10 yesterday but did not finish it and let some drops sit over night. i woke the next day and nosed it, and it smelled like rosehip tea. Im very new to whisky but im wondering if anyone else has this note in this whisky when it is just being poured?

    • @AnimeReference
      @AnimeReference 5 років тому +1

It's been mentioned on this channel in other reviews (Ardbeg comes to mind) that you can pick up extra notes by smelling a glass the next morning and that you can then pick up those notes in a fresh pour once you know what you're looking for. I found that to be true - Ardbeg has some wondrous sweet notes. I'll try the same for Talisker tomorrow.
