  • I've had some questions about how does one go about getting into a renaissance faire as a vendor, as well as what to expect at a faire if you just want to work one.
    Hopefully this chat helps resolve some of those questions.

    I forgot to mention for the vendors in the vid...WIFI! Make sure to get your own Wifi because ren fair wifi is very choppy. I use Straight Talk for my POS and also recommend T-Mobile. Those services seem to always work, even when the fair wifi bogs down.

    I'm going to do my first faire next summer and I'm struggling with how much inventory to bring. It's 6 weekends. I make carved candles, regular candles, and wax melts. We will be offering interactive services as well as retail.

      Nice! It will do great at Ren for sure. It is all a learning process. You have to stumble before you walk in these faires lol.

      How big of a booth space do you have? Shelving options? You can hide overstock with hanging tapestries/ underneath covered tables. Keep in mind weather temps in case you have candles with a lower melting point. Its better to bring more rather than less on the first weekend. It'll give you an idea of what your sales will look like without risking selling out and having to guard an empty booth all day. You can bring less product in future weeks if that seems to be more accurate with sales.

    This was very helpful. We are planning a one evening fundraiser dance (an adult prom themed to ren faire ) and have had a few ppl ask if they could set up to sell during the ball since we had originally planned a day long event but cant pull it off this year. there are are a lot of local crafters that deserve a chance .. this gives me a better idea on how to vet them and make sure they will be a good fit for the event

    Next season, 2023, at TRF will you be in a tent or a booth ? Or is it still undetermined at this point. On one of your previous videos you mentioned a booth.

    • @sirblasphemytravels
      @sirblasphemytravels  Рік тому +3

      Hey David. I am negotiating on a booth at the moment, but it is not for sure. It is really about coming up with the money. More than likely, I'll still do the tent, but I will be in a different location for next season. There is still a small chance I get a booth this season though.

      If you pay for a booth is it just for the one season or do you get first dibs on it the following season. Along with a discount for returning?

    • @sirblasphemytravels
      @sirblasphemytravels  Рік тому +1

      @@chewbaccavader6538 Depends on what you mean by "paying" for the booth. Are renting a booth for the season, or, did you purchase a booth outright for all seasons? If you are renting a booth (and most faires do not have booths for rent), it will be just for the season. You'll pay the booth lease, depending on if the fair owns the booth or not, then you'll pay your contract fees. If you own your booth, you'll just have to pay your contract fees and rates along with whatever expenses come with owning a booth at fair. No fair, unfortunately, offers a discount for returning. And, if you rented a booth or have a spot for a tent, you will likely have that same location the following year unless they do not renew your contract. It varies by the fair and what they need in vendors each season. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching and thanks for the questions!

    Thank you for the info! Exactly what I needed. Are you thinking about doing Sherwood Forest? I’d love to meet up if you do. And if you are a high paying vendor I would love to work for you 😉

      Hey Juli! You are welcome! Glad to do it! It was something I've been meaning to do for awhile. I did apply for Sherwood, but I turned in my app a few days too late so I'll be missing this season there. Next season possibly! Absolutely! When and if I need help at the Ren Fairs, I'll send you a message and we can go from there! Thanks Juli!

    I work at Bristol renissance faire and my employer started me off at 15 hr and now I’m at 17 hr, even at 17 I Don’t think I’d make anywhere near 190 let alone 250+. Should I request my employer plays me a baseline of 200 or more a day? They tend to cut my days short so I’ll get no more than 7hrs.

    • @sirblasphemytravels
      @sirblasphemytravels  Рік тому

      Great question! I don't think it would hurt to request higher pay or a salary that you are comfortable with, within means of course. As long as they are paying you more than minimum wage in the state you are in, it is hard to maneuver around that. If they are working you less hours to avoid a higher overhead, it's tough to earn more with them, of course, unless they give you more hours. $300 should be the minimum baseline for working a couple of days at fair. Most of us try to price that whether it is just pay, or pay plus incentives like food and tips. Ask them if they could just flat out pay you $300 a weekend and see what happens. It doesn't hurt to ask. But don't let them abuse your time if they agree to that by having you work a lot of extra hours. Ask them for that pay given the time you are already working. Hope that helps!
