Anthony Hopkins gives serious Obi-Wan vibes here. Fabulous.
Still convinced to this day that this scene inspired Batman Begins >>>>

hmm... You seem like you have a petty problem with women. ...How old are you?
If only Star Wars could’ve taken notes from this movie. Or heck, even Creed. At least they showed how to do a proper ‘passing of the torch.’
"The pointy end goes in the other man."
He's not wrong.
Still my favorite line of the movie, I can't watch it without laughing
This is going to take a lot of work ...
Yep everyone assume that sword is only for stabbing people
@@Saberblast58 that's why Sabre is the most realistic form of Fencing : it features both thrusting and cutting , and the target area is everything from the waist up - front and back ! ! !
At the end of the movie, the pointy end did go into the other man.

Be wary of him too :P
@@peterbrown3404 I suppose both work, in the long run.
Beautifully said.
Good one. I always liked, "Beware the man who wields but one weapon"
Omg so original! xD
I love how Alejandro isn’t like most students. He’s not impatient, he doesn’t question everything De La Vega is saying, especially how he won’t fight, and what happened to him. He’s eager to become Zorro himself and is a quick study.
Zorro was everyone’s hero. Ofc he’d hang on every word the famous Fox would say
Except several times he lost his patience and try to charge De La Vega and then defied his orders, donning zoro to steal a horse... He doesn't backtalk. He simply try to kill him several times.
Hilariously tried.
@@ajwatcher but every time, he learns, and that’s what matters.
@@huydang5955 But to actually become Zorro is a long process demanding a lot from it's embodier.
@@ajwatcher he only attacks ones and that’s only after getting literally whipped. Other then that he listens to his mentor and his mentors expresses to him “you have passion and your skill IS growing.”
Diego was a great mentor. He was tough, yet gentle when needed. He reprimanded when it was appropriate, but also gave sincere praise when Alejandro did right. In many ways, he was like the father Alejandro never had, as both the latter and his brother grew up as orphans.
Yeah and you can see that he really approved of him as a son in law and wanted him to take care of his daughter when he passed.
"The pointy end goes in the other man." I love how Hopkins' reaction is one of "He's clueless, but at least he half-understands."
"You would have fought bravely and died very quickly" says two things: courage is already there. Skill takes time.
Id love a third Zorro movie with Banderas taking over the mentor role and training a new student, itd be a nice full circle moment.
How would it go?
Ooh, another fandom revival like Puss in Boots?
New Zorro would be a 13 year old girl that would already be an accomplished and talented swords fighter/ gymnast/ horse rider and she would end teaching and saving old Zorro no less than 3 times by time the credits roll.

Yes because they left the figth at time. No old warriors all live figthing, they dead.
This was a criminally underrated movie. For me, even the fact that the original Zorro was plated by a classically trained, **British** actor did nothing to diminish my enjoyment of it!
At least it wasn't like Sean Connery trying to pass as a Spainard.
@@ajdominguez1002 Aaaaaah, but if you remember, Ramirez wasn’t *actually* a Spaniard. He was Egyptian.
It's just cool that back then the main thing that counted in the movies was if the person was good in the role.

This movie had just the right amount of campy.
As always, watching Sir Anthony Hopkins is a pleasure.
i cannot imagine how these 2 could be any better cast.
I didnt even realize this movie ran for more than 2 hours. Thats how good the movie is.
Banderas really sold the scene. Really good.
- He is trained to kill. You seem trained to drink [...]
- I would have found a way. I have never lost a fight !
- Except to a crippled old man just now.
Diego's roasts are the best.
There is just this air of elegance around Anthony Hopkins.
As a HEMA practitioner and someone who's fought SCA rapier and cut and thrust for almost 20 years...I love this stuff
An unsung classic this movie needs so much more praise and remembrance
The casting director sure deserves a high praise I mean Antonio Banderas getting his ass kick by Anthony Hopkins and Catherine Zeta-Jones as a badass damsel. This movie is freaking Awesome. Please I begging for no remakes this movie is perfect just the way it is. I’m ok with the sequel just because I love that kid Joaquin he’s freaking funny. If in the future Antonio and Catherine want to give one last fight for all times sakes, that would be a blessing. If not then no one touched this masterpiece no remakes no series no anything. We have very little of movies and shows they haven’t screwed up with remakes this movie is one of em please don’t screwed up this one. Zorro will forever be legendary and have a very special place in our hearts❤️💯🥂
90s movies are such timeless gems
One of my favorite scenes from one of my favorite movies, a classic passing of the torch where the elder finds a student to pass his knowledge to and raises him up from rock bottom. Excellent story.
Great scene that shows no one starts out the greatest in anything. They have to put the work in.

Fun Fact : the words , KUNG - FU actually mean , HARD - WORK , and the original Chinese characters are meant to depict a Man sharpening his sword from early in the morning until late at night
I love how this movie incapsulates Alejandro's love and superhero esque style that well all know and love for Zorro. When Alejandro says, "...you fought 100 men!" in the sense of that nostalgia and then Del la Vega goes, 100 men? in the sense that the old times are not really what we imagined them. Sure Zorro whooped a lot of ass in his day! But fight off 100 men at a time, even Del la Vega has to rebuttal that isn't what happened, but in the eyes of a child or the ones who needed a hero, Zorro fought 100 men on a daily basis and cleaned their clocks like nobodies business.
Probably would have been thinking, "I may have been chased by 100 men, but I certainly didn't fight all of them, that's crazy talk."
The pointy end goes into the other man..... classic XD
And the look Zorro gives him....
Ahh... the movie that brought Catherine Zeta Jones to my attention
What eloquent speech. Anthony Hopkins is spellbinding when he submerges himself into a role.
Shows off, proceeds to get showed up.
"Captain Love doesn't exist until i say he exissssstssss..." my god what a beautifully buttery voice and command of that voice
For as someone who grew up with what I call a check in check out father I see the vitality of having a father figure like this. The type of father who gets involved and trains you to become what you need to be to do what you need to , to live in this life. To father's and future father's out their or guys who have a kid in the community who look up to you as a father figure this is how it's done.
I remember watching this movie for the first time as a kid and falling so hard in love with Catherin Zeta Jones as Elena
She's not that good looking 🙄
Like Anthony Hopkins she's from Wales- and in small patch where Richard Burton was from too.
this is how Like and Rey should have been interpreted, not like a sad old man and a Super Mary Sue
Amazing film. But I actually just noticed something funny. When Zorro disarms Alejandro and catches his sword, watch closely when he initially does it. The sword actually falls behind Alejandro then reappears above Hopkins for him to catch. A clever edit that's hard to miss since it's literally one or two frames.
The whole casting for this film is perfect
(chef's kiss) Ah, by all the Flamin' Hot Doritos, they just don't make movies like they used to.
No CG, no shaky cam, just quick-handed choreography and pithy one-liners.
Growing Old by the way of the sword is both a great honor and achievement on its own.
Story of my life. Truly.

“The greatest swordsman who ever lived didn’t have a sword?”
"Your friend's dead, and Meryn Trant's not, 'cause Trant had armor, and a big fackking sword"
I loved Alejandro's Arc. He went from petty criminal, bumbling buffoon, to a a charming man, to a noble hero who avenged the honor of his brother
His brother was honorless bandit as he was then. Alejandro was made better by Zorro.
Disney: zorro never kill à single soldiers.
Hollywood : WTF
So sad they cut the final line of dialogue before they cut to the lair, when Alejandro whispers, 'Zorro?' goosebumps! This edit robs us of that dramatic punch to the feels... So they did the mask, then the legend think they will ever do a third one? What would it be called? The mark? the Son? Discuss!
That's because that line is only in the director's cut.
In this day and age it would be his daughter while his son is written as a pussy.
I was 13 when I saw this movie. Best movie of all time.
When was a child, I really loved El Zorro for he was a great hero and my name is Diego.
I love the analogy of the circles and maybe Im wrong but I think it could be also a reference for Verdadera Destreza española since the movement of the feet is in circles.
It sure feels nice watching a movie from a time when people were more *enjoy* and less *complain*

@@dmanning4114 Not sure how you read *complain* in my comment. Good thing i don't care to know.
@@GuardianGrarl Complain: express dissatisfaction or annoyance about something.
Is that not exactly what your comment is?
@@dmanning4114 No. My comment literally started with *It sure feels nice*. Stating that something causes pleasure.
@@GuardianGrarl @Dimitris Kalergis my guy, you made a statement that is contrasting two things. By logical deduction, if you contrast two things, then make a choice vs those two things, you are also showing dissatisfaction with one of the choices by not picking it. It's common sense.
If I make a statement of Coke vs Pepsi and I choose Pepsi, and say, "Pepsi brings me pleasure" there must be SOME dissatisfaction with Coke hence why I didn't pick it. You contrasted with how things currently are, vs the past and made a statement of choosing the past, thus showing dissatisfaction with how things currently are.
The plot of this movie is perfect for a Batman Beyond feature film
Someone's said it before and I'll say it again. Luke & Rey in the sequel trilogy should've been something like this.
That honestly would have made the sequels a far better trilogy
I've seen this on TikTok, and apologists tend to respond with "it wouldn't have been original". Like btch, Star Wars is a complete retread of Flash Gordon and John Carter of Mars. If it makes for a good film, who gives asf

That's how the first encounter between Luke Skywalker and Rey should've been done.
In a dirty, empty cantina, Rey is sitting alone at a table, tear-filled eyes, reminiscing about the recent loss of her sister at the hands of the hooded leader of the Knights of Ren, Kylo Ren. A shady Twi’Lek bartender walks by.
Rey (raising her cup): Another drink. Or whatever you call this.
Twi’Lek bartender: Money first.
Rey (mumbling to herself): Money first...
As she pads her tunic for money, the Twi’Lek quickly realizes that she hasn’t got any and is about to leave as she grabs him by the arm...
Rey: Wait! What about this?
From her rugged bag, she produces a shiny metal cylinder.
Twi’Lek bartender: A lightsaber!
Rey: Of course, a lightsaber. The finest weapon.
Suddenly, an invisible force seems to grab hold of the lightsaber dragging it in the opposite direction. Rey is barely able to old on to it. She doesn’t want to let it got.
Out of the shadows, an old, bearded man emerges, his face hidden by a wide, black, woolen hood.
Old man: Where did you get that?
The Twi’Lek seems to sense something as he looks onto the hooded stranger and leaves hastily.
Rey (still holding on to the lightsaber that is still drawn to the old man, her hands are shaking as she begins losing her strength): It’s none of your business.
The old man doesn’t seem pleased with the answer. All of a sudden, Rey can feel her windpipe closing up. She has trouble inhaling air and begins to cough.
Old man: Where did you get it?
Rey (turning red): It was my sister’s. She is dead.
The mysterious grip on her throat and the lightsaber disappears in an instant. Rey gasps for air and rests heavily on the table.
Old man: I'm sorry.
Rey(recovering slowly): Why should you be sorry?
Old man: You should not trade something like that for a mere drink.
Rey (laughing, tired, drunk): Why? You think I could get two?
There is commotion outside the cantina. Through the door frame, they see a squad of Stormtroopers arriving, lead by Kylo Ren. Rey’s hate-filled eyes are immediately fixed on him.
Old man: Who is that?
Rey jumps up, ignites the lightsaber and storms towards the door, but is held back by the old man.
Rey: This is the man who killed my sister!
Old man: You're in no condition to fight professional soldiers.
Rey (annoyed): Get out of my way, old man.
The old man grabs her by the neck and pushes her to the back of the cantina. His grip is amazingly strong for such an old man. Rey stumbles and falls into some chairs and a table.
Angry, she starts an attack, lightsaber in hand. But before she can close the distance, the old man lifts a hand and an invisible shock wave pushes her into the wall.
She gets up, shaky legs, shrugs off the dizziness, trys to focus, screams in rage and starts a second attack. Her lighstaber blade draws an ark, destroys a lamp at the ceiling and is about to split the old man in half when the blue blade is suddenly met by a green blade that blocks its path. Surprised, Rey takes a step back, lunges forward, but the green blade blocks again, leads her blade in circles as if Rey had no say in the matter whatsoever. Finally, Rey is pushed back again, harder this time. As she crashes into the wall again, she has her winds knocked out of her. Unable to rise again, she can only watch as the lighsaber is ripped from her hands, extinguishes right away and travels through the air into the hand of the old man.
Old man (stepping to her and offering her the lightsaber hilt): Would you care to try again ..?
Rey, in pain, having the wind pushed out of her, realizing she's no match for this stranger, declines.
Old man: You're welcome.
Rey: For what?
Old man: For saving your life.
Rey: I would have killed him.
Old man: No, he's trained to kill. You seem trained to drink. Oh yes, you would have fought very bravely and died very quickly.
Rey: I would’ve thought of something. I have never lost a fight.
Old man: Except to a crippled old man just now. What is your name?
Rey: Rey.
Old man: Rey...There is a saying, a very old saying: "When the pupil is ready, the master will appear." If you want to learn the ways of the Force, like your sister, I can teach you how to become one with the Force. How to fight with a lightsaber. How to resist revenge and the Dark Side.
Rey: Why are you so eager to help me?
Old man (removing his hood, revealing the face of Luke Skywalker): Because once, a long time ago, my master helped me to learn the ways of the Force.
Agreed. 💯
I am Rey Skywalker! 😂
