    This is a review of the Pelikan M1000
    Here on the channel there is a new pen review every week. All the pens shown are from my personal collection, some used more than others. There is also an ink review every week, and the featured ink of the week is also the inks used in the pen review for the week. The writing samples are transcripts done from “Of Men and Numbers” by Jane Muir published by Dell Publishing Co, Ink and was first printed in April 1962. Last there is also a paper review done each week… at least until I run out of different papers.

    It is important with this and all reviews to remember I am not an expert. I am just a nerd with a camera and an opinion. I expect my opinion to mostly be wrong as it is just my solitary opinion, make your own judgement and don’t follow group think. There always seems to be some variation of an ink, pen or paper. These are things out of my control and I can only give my opinion on what I have infront of me. If your opinions are different I encourage you to share them in the comments but please rememberI am an amateur just having fun…. Also, me and everyone else you interact with on line is a human on the other end of the computer, they might be having a bad day and your kind words might be the best thing that happens to them today.
    All pictures for this video were taken by me, including the background picture which I made or transformed in photoshop and the video is edited on Adobe Premier Pro. Also, every element, except the music, for this video was made by me. The music is from the free UA-cam audio library. I am in shock if you have actually read this much of the description, if you have comment and let me know you found this.

    On the flushing/rinsing cleaning of the pen...
    I would do a initial fill/flush x3
    Take the pen to a separate area and have 2 cups of water approximately 30ml.same as above.
    Separate the nib and barrel, flush out the nib with a modified bulb syringe followed by a flushing of the hole on the top of the nib unit with a blunt syringe the same with the barrel .
    If need be then soak the nib in a small container with distilled water.
    All clear, set the parts of the pen to air dry for 24 hours.
    Reassemble and you're good for the next inking of this unbelievable top tier/grail pen... ENJOY!

    Excellent work! My favorite pen is a 1000 with an older 3b nib. While I am a big fan of Visconti palladium nibs, the 1000 rules the fountain pen world. I prefer it hands down over my Montblanc 149 and Sailor King of Pens.

      I cannot imagine how huge the 3B line is, lol. It is one of my favorite nibs as well, so soft and sweet feeling!

    The first M1000 i got was a broad nib which was so wet that i thought i made a mistake ordering a broad but it grew on me. I usually do not use fine nibs but the second M1000 was a fine and i just fell in love with that pen making it one of my favourite fountain pens in my collection.

    • @AnInkGuy

      One of the great things about the M1000 is how easy it is to find replacement nob units... making it like more than one pen.

    I agree with you. I have F, EF, and broad. I also have m800 EF is good but very feedbacky. It is not comparable. M1000 feels like a dream to write with. I initially felt guilty pressing it to write by how springy it is 😀. No baby bottoms for me [4 Pelikan flock]. The EF is amazing more of a M. Broad with Daamine ancient copper is unbelievable! MB149 doesnt come close IMO.

    Adam,
    You are about the only guy on UA-cam with the technical knowledge and scientific approach to help ink users make better choices. Please consider reviewing brush pens and best ink choices. Specifically, Kuretake no 8, 13 & 50 brush pens and permanent / waterproof inks. Although not fountain pens, brush pens are used extensively in Asian writing and globally by illustrators & calligraphers. Information on best inks, particularly colored inks & brush pens is minimal. Any advice you could offer would be most appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Bill

    Happy birthday, Adam! The Pelikan nibs have a reputation or its nib designations. The fine writes like a medium, the medium writes like a broad, the broad writes like a double broad, etc.

    I want to like larger pens so I might possibly want to try the M1000. I mean, I have average sized hands but I want to use pens that have a bit of girth and weight.

    • @AnInkGuy
      @AnInkGuy  2 роки тому

      I just personally find the grittier pens more comfortable for very long writing sessions. If I am using thin pens, like pencil thin, I tend to grip much harder and get hand cramping.
      So it lets me enjoy writing more.

    Was able to find the black version with a M nib in the M800 price range. I love the B nib on my M800. I’m excited for this to arrive later this week. I think I’ll put the 4001 blue black in there first. Great review.

    • @AnInkGuy

      I think the black version of then M1000 does tend to retail for a bit less than the other M1000's. Makes it a great value in getting one. I expect you will really enjoy it.

      Fair enough! but the pen doesn't have to be expensive. I recommend when some money gets saved up to keep an eye on the second hand market and be very patient.

  • @periwinkle197
    @periwinkle197 2 роки тому +1

    the pen length and width is secondary to the length of the nib; meaning that depending on your hand size you may have to hold the pen closer to the nib (like you do) just to maintain the same writing angle. Nib width comparison should be done with major pen brands (Lamy 2000 excluded) to form a good idea how this is in relation to pens most relevant to us; use of minor brands in this comparison- well, not of much use. Otherwise, good to see a great pen in action

    • @AnInkGuy
      @AnInkGuy  2 роки тому

      I completely agree that nib size is important because it changes the way you hold the pen. Especially how close your hand gets top the nib.

    • @AnInkGuy
      @AnInkGuy  Рік тому +1

      I am not the one to tell others how to fix pens, definitely not my area of expertise. There are plenty of videos out there on how to do it, but you must keep in mind that fixing it yourself runs the risk of ruining the nib, otherwise send it to a nibmeister.
      A nibmeister I have used is Kirk Speer at PenRealm.

    The M1000 is one of my absolute favorites as well. So far I only have M nibs, but I may have ordered M1000 No. 4 with a F nib today. :) Finally. :D …I usually prefer M nibs, but as we all know, an M1000 M nib is nothing short of a B nib. So, F would be the way to go and now I finally did it. I am very exited however I probably can’t pick it up until August, anyways. It is ordered, that is the important part here. And I may order a B nib (nib unit only) soon, for possible letter writing. Or who knows what, can’t hurt to have another nib for one of your top 3 pens.
    The M1000 with the F nib has to compete against a lovely M815 Metal Striped with a wonderful M nib for first place. The M1000 has not been 1. place lately, because I didn’t have a F nib, YET. ;) 3. place would be my Lamy 2000 Blue Bauhaus with a very nice M nib. Out of competition is the M300 Green Striped B, it was a gift from my mother and the pen is super cute and just belongs to the other Pelikan pens in the top spots. Shortly after the top 3 comes the M605 Stresemann M and my Kaweco Supra Stainless Steel 14k M.
    I like that you also do pen reviews, they are good. :)

    • @AnInkGuy
      @AnInkGuy  2 роки тому +1

      The M1000 is an amazing pen in how it feels in the hand and the sonf feeling of the nib as you write. I think my fine nib is my favorite of their nibs to write with. I will say I have purchases spare nibs for mine, and the cost savings makes it completely worth it.
      I am only doing the pen reviews on the pens I own, then they will stop. I received a bunch of email asking for pen reviews.

    • @herrkeks8509
      @herrkeks8509 2 роки тому +1

      @@AnInkGuy A review only holds value anyways if one has experiences with the pen - otherwise it is an unboxing. + One can’t buy pens for UA-cam or constantly be in touch with various retailers for review units.
      My wishlist for pens also has quite short, but also fancy. Left are only a Namiki Emporer, the Visconti Homo Sapiens Skylight Steel Age and some Sailor Pro Gear in a color I like.

    • @AnInkGuy
      @AnInkGuy  Рік тому

      I don't write with the nib reversed, so I don't put it in the reviews. I also don't want to promote a behavior that can damage the nib when writing, so I will just use a finer nib instead of reversing it.
