I'm so sorry to hear about the pain and loss you and your family are going through. I've only recently had the great fortune to find your channel and, through it, get to know you a bit as a human being, and it's been a great joy in my life. Much love, friend, from across the pond.
Sorry brother. I feel your pain. I lost my daughter 5 years ago. My life will never be the same, but I have learned to accept it. You were instrumental in my learning of the Stairway solo. There is no bullshit in your teaching. Thanks and I wish you and your family the best. ❤
Sorry about your recent loses, going so quickly in succession is really hard because there isn’t enough mourning time. Happy to see you back and looking forward to part 2.
Just found you channel, lovely video, and great playing. I also appreciate you telling your story and being real. Grief is a bastard, so do whatver you need to do and take care of yourself.
I love that we are both Manchester guys and have the same favourite guitar. Like you mine was a present for my 49th in 2013. Not changed a thing on it.
@@SpedSpedding I think that I might have gone into there once maybe 15 years ago or so. If I remember correctly the guy that ran the place was mates with Johnny Marr
I can relate. I have the 2020 model. It is a great feeling guitar, very comfortable. The pickups are "blurry". I set it up for c standard to play all the old QOTSA stuff and clean it up with my eq. I'll be interested to see your results. I'm sorry for the sad time of loss for you and your family. All the best to you guys.
Thanks David, very kind. Thats sounds killer, I used to love dropping a guitar and playing No One Knows and Go With The Flow. Little Sister is a badass tune too; Josh is a riff junkie.
Have one of similar era with a Floyd and same pups - as you say it is a nice playing guitar - interested to see how the change goes - same issue as you it doesn’t have a specific use case (apart from occasional 24 fret solo!)

Interesting video 👍 I'm sorry for your loss, we've just lost a family friend and an uncle, lots of folk seem to be going "home" of late. We soldier on though, being grateful for small mercies ✌️🙏💜👍😊 Stunning guitar, I agree re the pick up sound, you describe it well, even with dicky wooden hearing and via a portable device, I hear what you mean 👍🤔👍 I don't play much these days, I've got strats now, I couldn't justify a PRS (cost) nor a Gordon Smith (which I quite liked back in the day). I've a twin HB strat, twin pivot point system one trem, that I upgraded the pick ups on, my previous single coil Strat I put quarter pounders in, my newer Strat (15 years old now😀) will probably have a Dave Murrey set up at some point and a two point trem. My other custom built Strat has Fender Lace Sensors, a shaved Fender neck etc., but she's a heavy old bus these days, so I may look for a different body, but it's a very early Simon Law (to my spec), so I'm loathed to fiddle with too much, although SL used some of my parts. Always fraught taking a guitar apart and I'm a bit out of practice 😲😀 Good times though as it's nice to customise guitars. I see that there's a Yardbirds documentary later today (Saturday) on Sky Arts (Council TV) and also a Rory Gallagher one too. Might be worth a look🤞🤞💜😊👍
There’s always something good on Sky Arts and I always miss it. 😂 “Did you see the Jimmy P….” 😒 “No, I didn’t.” And just to be clear my PRS is an SE, so very affordable compared to the US stuff. Trying to upgrade it into a beast.
Sped...we all grow from hardships, most people never show what that growth has done for them...hopefully it can inspire you to sprout some new roots in music...by tha way nice guitar story...great since of humor 😀 🎸❣️
@SpedSpedding you are a great guitarist, and probably already know that trying to find something on the guitar seems impossible, but that something usually finds you, and you're like..where tha hell did that come from..that's the inspiration to focus on to creating deep soulful music...one cord at tha time sped !!! 🎸❣️
I guess a lot of that would boil down to whether you want all the bells and whistles? Hardware, pickups, the different woods, pickups, locking machines, hard case the list goes on. If you’re unsure and have the budget for either I’d play a load and see if you fall in love with one whatever it is.
Intersting timing. Ive got a troublesome Epiphone Lea Paul which is super comfortable to play and looks great but has always been electronically fickle. I want to put new pick ups in for a black sabbath sound but the prices are astronomical and im constantly having these new metal pick ups recomended to me. No idea why
It would totally depend on your budget but I am sure you could do something significantly better than stock without breaking the bank. You got a max budget?
@@SpedSpedding I think realistically, two pick ups, any wiring and bits, labour and VAT……..no more than £400. I know that’s just one more Ivory pick scratcher for you young Spedlington but it’s a lot of bread for a poor northern waif like me. I spent half of today wangling a discount on a Hercules music stand as it is. I can’t be throwing my beer tokens about. I still need to get the Mrs a Christmas present (and ironing board covers aren’t cheap)!
As someone who owns a bird for nearly every bird on the neck of a PRS I feel like I'm qualified to suggest, perhaps, black pickup rings and/or black witch hat knobs 👁
Mate, gunna give you the good oil, upgrade your LP with some Bryan Williams Pageybuckers! Or a set of his Double neck pups. You will not be dissappointed! Def use pio's and 50's wiring with them. Bloody amazing! As close as you will get to that holy grail '73 sound! With your love and playing of God music, it would be WOW!!!!
Sped, sorry to hear about your recent tribulations, however, there's nothing like new pickups to sooth a fevered brow. To which ends, why didn't you consider Cream Tea Pickups, Ormskirk isn't a million miles from you, is it? That PRS could have been fitted with their Guitar-X pickup swopping thing and I'm sure Gabbie would have loved it.
