WOW. All I have to say is wow. This is an amazing video showing the true nature of the Colorado Trail! Great scenery, great music, and an overall awesome experience. Thanks for making this video Aaron, it turned out really well. I thru-hiked the CT in 2013 (i have a video on here if you wanna take a peak lol) so you passed me somewhere on the trail probably at midnight with your headlight on and your cassette clicking haha! Crazy bikers.. But i have a couple questions if you dont mind answering them for me please: - What camera did you use? The video is really colorful and sharp. And also was it helmet mounted? - What brand/model of bike did you ride? I live in Kansas right now but we have some local trails for mountain biking and i would like to get into it. I plan on moving to Colorado out of college and getting into bikepacking as well. Thats it really. Again Aaron, awesome video! Thanks for taking the time to capture, edit, and upload it.
Thanks a lot Jake, glad you liked it, and congrats on hiking the whole thing. I used a GoPro Hero 3, and actually carried it in my teeth whenever I wanted to film. Worked really well, I hate having the camera on my helmet. I rode a Santa Cruz Highball, a hardtail 29er, pretty common choice for the CT - simple, lightweight, dependable. Full suspension would definitely be easier on the body but is heaver and has more parts that could break.
Aaron Johnson Thanks for you reply Aaron. I am currently researching different kinds of popular bikepacking bikes and will be looking into your Santa Cruz Highball. Looked awesome man :)
Wow. Well-done Mr. Johnson.
Nice. Think I'm ready for 2014 now. Thanks for sharing Aaron.
This video was awesome. Thank you of documenting such an amazing ride/race. Truly inspiring.
Fantastic video and journey!
Pure awesomeness. Love your videos man.
Love the music!
I was just at that City Market in Buena Vista this summer! Haha That area is so nice!
Great video

Aaron Johnson You carried the GoPro in your teeth? How did you manage that? Did you somehow attach one to a mouthguard, or snorkel mouthpiece?

I used the standard tripod mount adapter, which is a plastic piece that you can bite down on pretty comfortably.
Video I made from this year's Colorado Trail Race
Did you have the Camera on your chest or on your helmet?
What tent and bike bags did you use and what you recommend that someone do to get ready to ride that trail in - let's say July?! That's my plan.
What bike are you using?
nice video - makes it seem like its all down hill :)
