My best friends dad who´s a now retired pilot used to say " there are good pilots, great pilots and then there are pilots that can land at St. Barts ( translated). He landed 8 Times at St. Barts and he said its the most difficult place to land he has seen in his pilot carreer of almost 35 years.
In that type of aircraft (not stol) that is basically what you have to do. I don't think an airport like this would ever be certified as a continental airport, on this island this was likely the best locale without building an artificial island which would have been cost prohibitive.
Wow!!! Talk about an intense landing!!! And the rotation on take-off took place maybe a couple hundred feet from the end of the runway!!! When it absolutely-positively needs to put-out max-power to get airborne!!!
Hi everyone! I noticed a lot of people picked up on how I misspelled St.Barts at the beginning. when I made this vid back in 2014 I didn’t have the biggest attention to detail on my videos. Hope you guys can overlook it and it’s not to much of a distraction.
Tobias MacIvey Sorry Mr. Spelling police! I made this video almost 4 years ago which is around when I started my channel. So I didn’t have the greatest attention to detail back then as my vids didn’t get that many views. People make mistakes I doubt your perfect. And I do fly planes in real life! And it’s going great!
Tobias MacIvey yes you do need attention as a pilot but unfortunately nameing a video and piloting are two VERY different things. I'm the worst at spelling but yet I'm still working on my pilots license. There a lot of things I don't pay much attention too because it's not needed but I still pay as much attention to flying as I can. Nameing a video on a small chanel just doesn't require as much attention to detail as flying does. So therefore you just can't connect the two together like that and assume that someone not paying attention to how things are spelt in a UA-cam video title can't fly a plane.
To avoid a collision between landing (low approach) planes and car traffic they should install a traffic light system which could be operated by the control tower. Safety first!!

Thanks John Doe ya at the end of all these videos I am going to do a best of st barts video and the landing at 8:12 will be in there. But thanks so much for your support
My guess would be that it's just a matter of the prevalent wind direction for landings. If you have strong winds from ~10° most of the time the approach speeds and stopping distances might be just too long on runway 28. There was a crosswind in this video, so I suppose they could have landed either way that day. Taking off on runway 10 would be mandatory, though, since you would have a hard time clearing that hill on climbout. ;)
Landing on the numbers is possible only if the approach speed was barely above stall speed, and the flaps were dumped during the flare. But good luck with that one.🤣
Boa noite, muito top esse vídeo , gosto muito de assistir vídeos de aviação, a pesar de nunca ter andado nem de teco teco, mas acho muito legal pouso, e decolagens.
Any light airplane pilot can land there, it's not a big deal. You DO have to get training and a sign off from a special St. Barts instructor before doing so, however. At least that's the way it was when I was last there. Over the years a fair number of pilots have gotten wet despite the instruction. They alllllmost got stopped LOL.
Thanks for telling me that. I had no idea. We live in Las Vegas and our summers are brutal here and when the wind blows it is more like a blast furnace kind of heat. I would imagine there is also a bit of humidity in St. Barts which makes a difference. Your vid is great, I really enjoyed watching. I am retired from piloting- have been for more than 20 years now. But, the skill of these pilots is nice to watch. Thanks again.
Problem then is that doing that requires first relocating a major intersection on Saint Bartholemy Island, which may also require having to move/demolish some nearby houses in the process and I'm sure the homeowners won't take too kindly to being pushed out like that, which adds huge cost and time overruns to such a proposed project, when the existing approach already works just fine for the types of aircraft coming in to land daily.
My best friends dad who´s a now retired pilot used to say " there are good pilots, great pilots and then there are pilots that can land at St. Barts ( translated). He landed 8 Times at St. Barts and he said its the most difficult place to land he has seen in his pilot carreer of almost 35 years.
Wow! That really says something then. I wonder how I would fair trying to land there. You have zero margin for error. Overruns must be fairly common.

In mountain driving in the winter you need chains on your tires. When landing at St. Bart’s you need suction cups.

Either they had great pilots or the plane almost lands itself, each landing was smooth as silk.
