This is my personal opinione: Original: nostalgic and the start of a leyend New: a good base for a soundtrack, but not a good soundtrack Remastered: a homenage of a leyend with better sounds Riddiculon: HEVY METAL YEEEEAAAAAHH!!!!!! DM Dokuro: EPIC, it have so love and dedication that overpass the original
I was just recently told about Cave Story Wii-Balanced. Some absolute brave soldier went in and made the New soundtrack sound better and oh my god, it really does fix a handful of problems, but the New soundtrack can only be so good, haha. Overall, not bad opinions!!
I literally had to re-listen to Labrinth Fight from Ridiculon and oh my god, now I can't hear it as anything else but beach music LOL WHAT IS THIS CURSE YOU'VE PUT UPON ME
Thank you for adding DM Dokuro's version, it really is the best way to experience the soundtrack. I'm glad I know how to make mods for the switch, because modding this in significantly improved the experience when I played hard mode
@@Nerdieo Here's the mod: drive.google.com/file/d/1-_T8IZKwvOVWL8dAsy20q_tp2Rn4m4Ao/view?usp=drivesdk To get it on switch, you need CFW, and you just have to put the folder in atmosphere/contents, or if you want it for PC, you can merge the data folder in romfs with the one in the game files (remember to make a backup) It's for the American version, which I'm assuming you have, but if have the Japanese version, you can rename the folder with all the numbers and letters to this: "01000D9007C28000" Edit: Forgot to mention, this replaces the Remastered version
On SoundCloud i found an album called "Cave Story Wii-Balanced" Wich in my opinion makes the "New" soundtrack sound better (BTW Good video, I'm surprised i got it recommended this early)
A BETTER WII SOUNDTRACK?? HOW HAVE I NEVER HEARD OF THIS, I'M LISTENING TO IT FOR THE NEXT FEW HOURS. Thank you, haha! Also, thank you! I'm really happy you enjoyed it!
personally I love the remastered OST. The main example I can think of where it's worse is Geothermal. I just prefer the simplistic feeling of the original
Something I appreciate about the New/Wii OST is that it has a lot more build up in a lot of its tracks. Mimiga Town, Final Battle, Seal Chamber, & Breakdown being a few key examples. All 4 of these tracks start out slower than their original counterparts however progressively add more notes and sounds as the tracks progress. Due to this I actually have a bit of a soft spot for the New/Wii Sound Track. While I won't say every track was an improvement, Oppression & Charge being tracks that are significant downgrades in my opinion, the slow build up really made me appreciate the innocence of Mimiga Village, the Dread of the Island falling, & the excitement for the Final Battle, and the mysterious aura when facing Ballos.
About Balrog's theme, I know you said Misery is to follow soon after, but I always distinctly understood this piece entirely as Balrog. To give a good perspective here, almost every single run-through of Cave Story I have done, including the current one, I've been caught up in enjoying the goofiness of him a little too much, then there is this sudden shift when Balrog makes his first move, and I'm caught off-guard when he starts fighting. Before I know it, I really have to keep watch of my health. It could happen during any of the Balrog fights during a playthrough. And as we know, if you're not careful while fighting him, he can be terrifying. I've always seen that segment of the song as evocative as what's going on here. Then the fight ends, and Balrog is fun and goofy again. Rinse, repeat.
Wii-Balanced doesn't sound bad!! Some tracks just have this high pitched noise in the background that kind of hurt my ears, but you won't hear it when playing you'd have to listen through headphones. Maybe it's a glitch?
please ramble about cavestory's music for 45 mins, that genuinely souns like it would be nice to listen to ps. thank you for introducing me to the dm dokuro cavestory soundtrack ,, it just vibes so gosh darn much
Don't tempt me to make that video because I will LOL And of course!! I'm amazed how much some people didn't know about the Arranged soundtrack, but everyone seems to like it and I'm glad they do! It's dope!!
I personally think the new soundtrack is the best. While the more strong songs are a bit of a letdown, songs like moon song and balcony are the best versions of every soundtrack. When I tried playing with the remastered soundtrack I didn't it really fit the game. Idk maybe it's just me
Man. I love Cave Story and it's music SO frickin' much. Funnily enough, it was Cave Story Arranged by DM DOKURO that actually introduced me to CS, and the fact that you put it on here is so delighting to see! I was introduced to it through the Terraria Calamity Mod, as one of the bosses in the mod (back in early 2016) used Last Battle: Ballos Mix as a placeholder track, before DM composed an actual original song for the album (seriously, if you like his music and want to hear something even more amazing, check out his album for Calamity, called The Tale of a Cruel World, it's honestly one of the best OSTs for a simple mod I've ever heard)! After I heard the insanity that was Last Battle: Ballos Mix, I knew I had to check the game out. And thus started my days of saying Cave Story is my favorite game of all time. Great video man, loved it a lot! :D
I was only covering official soundtracks in the video and the only reason I brought up Arranged was because it goes above and beyond. If I were to bring up SNES, then I should've also brought up the Genesis version since it's technically slightly different, as well as tons of other different types of chiptune covers online that would've just flooded the video to HOURS.
A few opinions: 1: "New" soundtrack is unfairly underrated. I get that it fails to maintain the tone in a lot of tracks, and its initial glitched release didn't do it any favours. Nonetheless, it is potentially one of the most creative versions of the soundtrack, relying on countermelodies instead of instrumentation, and I would take it over the Switch soundtracks any day. I especially appreciate this version of "Mimiga Village." 2: "Famitracks" is unfairly overrated, but I found it useful for soundtrack comparison. As you noted, "Remastered" can occasionally be "too much," and "New" is often "too little," whereas "Famitracks" is right in the middle. I noticed things about the soundtrack as a whole that I wouldn't have otherwise (ever notice the similar bassline in "Mischievous Robot" and "Scorching Back"?), and it helped me to appreciate the instrumentation of "Organya" more. 3: "Ridiculon" soundtrack is unfairly rated. Everyone calls it the "rock remix" version, but I can't think of a single track that was actually rock. Chiprock made sense for this game, and it works about as well as "Remastered" or "New" does, in that it will sometimes capture the proper tone and sometimes won't. I personally found its creativity to be lacking, but there are still tracks that stand out to me; "Gestation" is wonderful, and "Tyrant" is probably my favorite version of the track. 4: In addition to the DM Dokuro version, I consider DynamiteMan.EXE's VRC-6 soundtrack to be worthy of comparison; I dare say it is what I wanted but didn't get from "Famitracks." The only other version I've come across is an "SNES" remix album, but I didn't find anything particularly impressive about it.
Unironically, based opinion about New. I definitely think the Wii Balanced soundtrack should be the default when talking about it, but yeah, the official release did not help it, but it does do some fun creative things. I would even say the New version of Labyrinth Fight is one of the best mixes, haha. And I can kind of understand where you're coming from with Famitracks. I still think Organya does an amazing job of showing of every part of the instrumentals, but Famitracks does make it easier, for sure. "Tyrant" is the only thing I can shake on for Ridiculon, haha. Shake? VCR-6 is great, I believe DynamiteMan is the one who made Famitracks, but I can be wrong. I just know a fan on UA-cam was hired to make Famitracks, I hope I got it right! Either way, VCR-6 is fantastic.
I think you have nostalgia goggles for the original. It is good but the remastered is just higher quality in my eyes. I agree with the rearranged however
That's valid! Chiptune isn't aging well, it's an aquired thing. Not trying to say it's better, just something that ya had to be a bit trained to listen to, for lack of better words!
Wii is definitely unique, haha. And Famitracks definitely isn't easy on the ears, but it's almost EXACTLY like the original, so it kinda follows shortly behind the organya version. I totally understand, though. Seeing the FamiTracks version is the one that came on the soundtrack CD was definitely disappointing LOL
The Remastered version makes songs such as "Moonsong" and "Pulse" way more emotional in my opinion.
The remastered definitely has some golden eggs, haha. It's SUPER hit or miss for me, but I don't blame anybody who has it as their favorite!
@@Nerdieo It's my favourite, actually..
