I used to hear my dad play this song, and as I grew up, we used to play it together. We don't play much as we used to now, but Deep River Blues will always remain the Father&Son theme in my heart. Thanks for polishing this masterpiece of Doc Watson. Cheers from France
I been down to the crossroads, but the devil looked at me and laughted. You old fool you lost your soul a long time ago. It's a young man's soul that feed's my delight. Blues for a soul. And he gave it to you...
I was playing Deep River Blues before you were born. A friend played Travis style and it was the first song I'd heard in the style around 1965. It's what motivated me to learn how to play guitar and I think I've played a bit of it every time I've picked up a guitar for over 50 years. I also played it for Merle Travis in his dressing room one time and I have to say something frankly Justin, I hate your guts. Loved it. Nice to see how the last 30 years has produced so many players who are keeping the style alive. My hat's off to you. Merle did warn me about one thing though, he said, "You keep pickin' your guitar like that and the hole will never heal up."
Браво ,Маэстро, гитара в ваших руках игрушка, а музыка её..звучание в века..Спасибо, что вы есть на Земле Божьей и красота звучания гитары вашей будут радовать многие поколения людей..Браво..
It's like May something, I have lost my self too time ( Literally ) I Can Play Again!!!! Time is nothing but a metaphor..... My Hand's are singing again and "I Don't Want Ta Ever Sleep Again" ... Thanks Mr. Justin !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This one is my all time favorite of your videos. You mash this up!!! probably about 2500 of the likes for this video are me. I cant stop watching it. The soul in your fingers is like FUEL. You go Daddy!!
My grandpa was my introduction to this song. We both had a mutual liking for the song. I met another man, Stan not long after and found that he liked the song as well. We got to play our versions to each other, and it was apparent that he was better at it than I was, haha! Because if them, the song is a regular part of my song circle. Your version is absolutely wonderful, and you played it very well. God bless
If you're a guitar player, this guy's your instructor. I've never seen better vids or playing. Giving it out for free too. I'm stealing every lick I can. Doc would have been mighty happy about this one...
Face it y’all this young man is just plain one very talented guitar genus unlike ninety nine point nine an three quarters percent of us will never be ! Oh but isn’t it wonderful we get to listen to him ?
@Steven Thompson So true. In the good old days you could believe you were a pretty hot picker when comparing yourself to locals. Then youtube came along and suddenly your stuttering version of Freight Train didn't sound nearly so good.
With so many views, why are there only 688 likes? His picking and playing is fantastic to listen to and watch. What's with all those people who can't recognize talent when seen?
Hey Justin, You never fail to amaze, a natural when it comes to playing instruments and music. Thank you for sharing your talent and all the cool videos. Best, C.
As cool and clean as it gets, always, and I mean you always hit that lick, that musical spot, well, um, spot-on fer me~ Doc would, heck, IS proud, peace N God bless ~
The Johnny Cash Martin sounds great. I picked up the 50th Anv. Mexican plant same price as the Cash. And also plays ands sounds better than some of the more expensive models. The Cash is really nice. Great playing as always.
Sounds fantastic. Love the switch ups from fingerstyle to flatpicking. You handle both styles very well and they integrate together and compliment each other well.
The UA-cam rabbit holes have brought me to many of your vids over the years. I've always recognized the talent, but this is the first one that made me say "holy sheet". You get it. Long live The Doc.
Sir.you have got to be one of the best unspoken guitar players there's ever been.love every dang video you've ever made and the guitars you've made also.i wish I could play a1/4 as good as you
BEE YOU TEE FULL young fella you never fail me ! I would still like to hear you and Johnny Hiland jam this kind of stuff ! In fact I just broke out Turquoise Trail again. Had to put it away for awhile, I didn't want to burn holes in it. Hadn't played it in about 4 months and it's just as fresh as the first time I played both cd's. By the way the Cash Martin sounds phenomenal, I could listen to you play that thing ALL DAY LONG. ( wife's tablet )
@@Flyfishthebordersandbeyond lol, technically, tommy emmanuel is a fucking beast, he can play whatever he wants and he has a colosal memory. He lost some groove because his technic is perfect but he's still one or the best guitarist of all time
@@Flyfishthebordersandbeyond I would like to recommend you a video of Tommy's - "if I had you". It's with Joscho Stephan. You'll see what kind of melodic powerhouse Tommy is.
Excellent, beautiful and real without production. A real talent and a absolute joy to hear and see !! Keep um coming--- first time I heard I became an instant fan . I looked up live show dates for you.
Well, hot damn, Justin: - More Merle and Doc Watson and I thank you ahead of time for this great picking. [While your at it, throw in some Jerry Reed.]

Even after watching video 50 times, it never EVER gets old. It would take me multiple lifetimes to get this good. Bravo 👏

Rivals any of the stellar versions of this great Delmore Bros. tune! Fantastic take.
Doc Watson is one of my all time favorites and you did him justice with your rendition, very well done sir.

That moment you realized that when you played Johnny Cash's signature guitar you just awoken his spirit. That was awsome.
My grandpa was my introduction to this song. We both had a mutual liking for the song. I met another man, Stan not long after and found that he liked the song as well. Nobody hangs it out there, warts and all, from beginning to end with this kind of feel. Perfection without production.
dlux I agree!!! This is so good!
Justin Johnson is UA-cam's most inspirational guitarist ✌
I agree, I can't really compare him to anyone. That's what he gets for being himself. Huge but self contained. Love this man.
I can see Chet smiling with the utmost approval !!🤠
Doc is the GOAT!!! I mean cmon. dude was BLIND, and tore it up!

Quickly becoming one of my 5 all time greats, keep pickin😎😎😎
Now that's the kind of blues that makes you just feel good all over.👍👍
Esse Cara e diferenciado sensacional Justin Parabéns.
Dig that move you do bar three. I find it easier than Doc’s version. Excellent. Now I play it your way.
My guitar went to the pawn shop and pawned me...
Класс !!! С удовольствием послушал ! Получил массу положительных эмоций !!!!!!!
What talent blessed by God. Wonderful to watch!
I thought I would never have that starry eyed look for someone other that Tommy Emmanuel. Then I saw Justin's videos.
Justin is better than tommy. Tommy just plays every thing light speed and shows off. Justin plays all speeds and is very humble

I always expect excellence and greatness, and yet I'm never disappointed. Very fine! Kudos.
Nicely done, brother.....fluency, accuracy, interpretation and feel....a wonderful performance
I enjoy feeling you feeling the music as you create it!

Great balls of fire. That's some mighty dang good pickin

I LOVE Jerry Reed.
Love that acoustic! Great playing too, love the blues 🤘🎸👍
Great Song, Great pickin! Always enjoy your videos. Rock on Justin!!
I like working out on an acoustic guitar because it keeps you in shape to play your Strat or you’re tele. Nice job.
Let it rain, let it pour, let it rain and rain some more, cause I got them deep river blues...
Expert! See you from Argentina! Love you style!
This boy is a magician, brilliant!
