Me and my Godbrother were recently compiling a list of the 10 best MC's in Hip-Hop. When we compared our lists', my Godbrother said: Sadat X? Are you sure? I knew he was never really a big Brand Nubian fan. So I took a few minutes to school him. I started with Sadat X has one of the most illest voices and the best delivery in Hip-Hop. After the lesson he still questioned a few others on my list but not X anymore. Thanks D-Nice this is long overdue.
Brand Nubians are living legends still spitting knowledge to the civilized and the uncivilized. As a group or solo they are solid. much respect to the Gods!
He definitely my favorite especially the older he got. He grew with age as an emcee most get wack but he got doper & harder & more clever & slick he's a bad man.
Dat has kept up with every stylistic development in hip hop over the last 2 decades and yet has remained lyrically powerful without conforming to others. That cats' pure old school New York and literally one of the most unique and intelligent voices the movement has ever produced.
Real cat!i met with him n partying one night on Budapest, that was one of my best memory, even had chance to rappin wit him on stage at his concert,he was with greg nice...for me theese guyz the definition of a real MC!
This is to fly... Enjoy ya PHYSICAL main man! Yo, D-Nice keep bringing these true HIP-HOP stories to light!!! Yo, Sadat! I meet you thru De La on that East Coast college tour '91.
Listening to him recite that just reminds me that true emcee's are true poets...REAL HIP-HOP...words meant something and you can picture it in your head as if someone's telling a tale or a situation...this present stuff is bull****...some of it.
Nice interview....Sadat X been my dude since back in the day. I remember seeing Brand Nubian in concert back in 93....one of the illest and most original emcees.
And this is why it MUST be legal for every person to carry a firearm. The whole purpose of the 2nd Amendment was to guarantee the right of self-protection. Sadat X did nothing wrong. He was stripped of his freedom for simply wanting to exercise his right of self-protection. Be very wary of those who look to take this right away from the people.
Nice interview with music rapper Sadat X of Brand Nubian. Sadat X name is Derek Murphy. Sadat X, Willie D of Geto Boys, LL Cool J, Foxy Brown are my favorite music rappers.
Should there be an age limit on hip hip? Jazz artist Bob James is 78 and just dropped another album this year. The man is 78 years old and still killing it. The only thing I would say is, in hip hop your music should show a reflection of your personal growth. In your 40's you can't necessarily talk about the same subject matters, in the same manner.
Totally agree with what he said about fools trying to put age limits on rappers. So called hip hop fans are the worst! Lyrics don't have an expiration date! As long as u can spit and make relevant music, than I could care less about your age.. Rap is the only genre that really pushes that line too. I'll listen to Busta, Dre, Too Short, ect, as long as it sounds good to me..
WTF are you talking about????? Brand Nubian are doing shows. They just did a sold out show in Miami. The venue was sold out. People really come out and support these guys 100%
hip hop has changed for the worst . the teachers have all but gone .. blah blah blah money blah blah blah bitches blah blah blah bullshit. . much respect sadat x .. if it ain't broke
Individuality creates longevity which creates a Legacy of RESPECT AMONG US THAT ARE TRUE FANS OF TRUE HIP HOP. Every M.C. from the 70's til this moment that picks up a mic and the main goal to keep the listener focused on not only a story being told but a verbal encyclopedic journey that takes you to a place that makes you hit that rewind button over and over, timeless. TRUE M.C.'S DON'T DROP BARS THEY DROP KNOWLEDGE. MUCH RESPECT TO..... M.C. SADAT X
This is to fly... Enjoy ya PHYSICAL main man! Yo, D-Nice keep bringing these true HIP-HOP stories to light!!! Yo, Sadat! I meet you thru De La on that East Coast college tour '91.
Sadat X Salute Brother, U gotta do, what u have 2 do 2 survive. Fuck those rats what if u would have slept, then "we" The Hip Hop Nation would have lost another soldier. So Salute!!!!!
Sucks to hear this dude did a year in jail on some BS (rat boys tellin cops he had a gun). And that felony now lingers with him when he WANTS to give back to the community, the youth and help. This is an educated man who is conscious. I hope as of today he has found a way to give back without that bump in the road derailing him.
Great interview w/ a true legend! Was hoping he'd touch on the kinda vicious tone the album cut of "Punks" has compared to the remix...always took me back that it kind of made the leap from "normal" homophobic lyrics to something a little more brutal and hoped he'd talk about it. But whatever. Sorry to hear about his run-in! Hope Sadat puts out more great shit in the future!
I NEVER THOUGHT HE WOULD DO A STINT ON RIKER'S ,,,,, JUST MOVE ON TO A SUCCESSFUL CAREER AS A PIONEERING HIP-HOP ARTIST.....FUNNY HOW THINGS CHANGE & REALLY GOOD ARTIST GET NEGLECTED FOR RADIO RAP CRAP......LIKE SOULJA BOY & LIL WAYNE......
Dag Sadat, you should've never carried that gun. Your flow's always been tight, you could've damn near talked a joker out of a beef. Keep your head up regardless.
Respect for bringing this piece. Respect to Sadat X. hold your head up. Your a good man. I see it in you. PEACE AND GOOD THINGS BE WITH YOU. Sincerely writing..
Sadat X could be college professor, dudes smart as hell. That interview was tight! Dope location, simple angles, and a chill brooding pix of Sadat. I hope he keeps putting more new music out, his voice is sick. Good work D!
BIG UPS to Sadat X - I remember him back when he rolled with Brand Nubian. Much respect. I need to catch up on more of his solo work- dude can spit his ass off!!!!!! Also BIG PROPS to D- NICE for his KILLER series. Just wish they were longer and I hope he puts out a compilation DVD.

A truly memorable Emcee from a memorable Band, "Move on black man move on , U gotta move on black man move on".
Sadat X always kept it positive...even while behind the scenes he was doing things BN spoke against( smoking woolys-Slow Down)
He didn't say he was smoking them he said
Wooly willy got a pair of my sneakers , I wonder where he got em cause I hid em behind my speakers
Well said....Positive Education Always Creates Eruptions

Sadat X is like the president,I'm in D.C. down at the monument....Peace to the God for always staying humble & providing us with that mental food.
Listening to him recite that just reminds me that true emcee's are true poets...REAL HIP-HOP...words meant something and you can picture it in your head as if someone's telling a tale or a situation...this present stuff is bull****...some of it.
Good stuff. I have always been down with them dudes. They represented the Nation of Gods and Earths well.

I hate that Sadat X has to get a regular job like at a school. he should still be getting show money on like legends tour
have you ever considered that he likes working in a school enviorment
yea im sure he chose that over touring the world doing what he was born to do, perform and make music
frankly, Omar is an idiot.
Omar Scruggs ^^^^

Mick Jagger is damn near a hundred years old and no one can tell him to stop making rock and roll music so continue to do your thing brother Sadat X.
man ups to Sadat for keeping in real..Brand Nubian is one of the first hip hop groups that i started to listen too!
He should do a spoken word album. His lyrics resonate when he speaks them. Sometimes I feel his his normal twang he raps with gets in the way.
Sadat X stays on point!
@sankofa669 damn right....hell year we gotta support those kinda mcs.....80s and 90s 4ever...
Sadat X's last solo album (Generation X from last year) was the best hip hop release of 2008.
This man right here is a legend and it's a f"ckn' shame how legends are treated today!
One of my all time fav groups Brand Nubian, as a group or individually they were all on point. Knowledge yourself to better yourself.
