You make great videos.
I really appreciate your willingness to make corrections or admit what went wrong.
Thank you and keep up the great work!
I appreciate that!
The proper way to adjust the front four-wheel drive bearings is torque it down to approximately 30 / 50 ft pounds then spin the rotor two or three times to make sure all of the bearings or seated and in correct alignment then back off the nut 1/4turn install lock washer and second nut Tighten down secondary nut fully . The second nut will push the first nut in a little further when everything is tight. Use a dial indicator and adjust the lock nuts till you have 0.010" to 0.012" thousands of an inch of play at the edge of the rotor after both of the retaining nuts are tight against each other. Now bend the safety tag up to hold the second nut locked in place. The 0.010" play will allow for a thermal expansion and will also allow the rotor to have a slight wobble to set the disc brake pads back into the caliper so that they are not dragging. You did a pretty good job kid but yeah if you do it like you did you'll smoke the bearings and cause your brakes to drag and wear out quickly
You need to make a video lol
I have to say thank you so much for this video I would not have gotten my king pins and wheel bearings etc done without this video I watched it step by step bought same parts etc truck drives amazing now
Glad it worked out! Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching. Cheers.
@@OvensGarage I am fairly mechanical, but it was very helpful. Just hoping that I did the bearings right I followed your secondary instructions. Hopefully they will be OK.
These videos are great resources! I have a '92 W250 like yours with some color differences. Mine has 68000 original miles, I seem to only do about 6 or 7 thousand miles a year. The only things I've had go wrong are the injector pump (I need to drive it more) and the steering coupler (I live on a dirt road). I've added a few of your ideas such as the fuel filter, only mounted mine on the frame. Please keep this series going, soon you'll have a new truck!
I appreciate you watching! I'm no professional mechanic or anything but I'd like to keep this truck going for a while..!
Thanks for the install/tightening procedure for the bearing Tyler! Helped a lot!
Glad it helped! I also have the procedure laid out in my front brake job video as well if anyone needs the torque procedures.
Thanks for the correction on the torquing strategy of the inner and outer nuts. The winging-it approach that other videos recommend was not making me real confident that I was going to get it right.
There's a factory service manual for a reason!
Thanks for making this video. I got mine apart and after 2 trips to the parts store I forgot how to reassembly
23:24 I put my bearing races in the freezer and the hub in the oven at 400*F, dropped right in with a press! Thanks for the video - sweet truck by the way!
Good thinking, thanks for watching!
I dig the homemade bench and cabinets, better than some premade stuff out there.
Yeah my dad took that on as a project just after we built the shop. Totally worth the effort put in on his part. So much storage space and a great countertop that is sturdy, looks great, and has plenty of work room.
Hi Tyler, I am going to be rebuilding my 79' Dana 60 Snowfighter for my 76' Ford Highboy in July and this video is really going to help a lot. I already have the tools you showed and the axle is apart. I am bead blasting the rusty parts and getting them ready for paint. I plan to take my time and install the axle this fall or winter. Thanks again for posting!
Did the same thing on a 14 bolt rear with the rear wheel bearings, followed the forumns and it was overtightened. Locked up on the way to the airport thanksgiving morning 😅
Excellent video! I have a 93 that I will likely need to do this job on. Excellent break down. Thanks for making it!
Thanks for watching!
Great Video. You taught this old dog a few new tricks!!
Glad you liked it!
Just want to add! Clean out your axle tubes so you don't drag junk across the inner axle seal. Also a little grease on the axle end can help keep it from cutting the seal as well.
Good tips!
Awesome video, I'm currently in the middle of the same job so I can appreciate the tips and tricks. Keep the content coming!
I guess I posted this just in time..! Thanks for watching.
dont tell him what to do
Thanks for the video. It was helpful and you reading the FSM made it so I didn’t have to go grab my laptop
Glad to help!
Awesome video, this is what I’ll use to do mine. You should’ve done por-15 on the knuckle and axle, etc....it allows you to just spray the salt grime off and is a must for a truck with such a nice paint job.
I am a huge advocate of Krown products. An annual re-application of it goes a long way to keep vehicles rust free.
thank you so much for all the videos doing this job now i have a lift and my studs on the driver side snaped had to drill them out and instead of 1/2 inch i went to 9/16 , now back together again and all-bran new this weekend, see me around victoria big red truck with 6 square tubing stacks in the back :) cant wait!!!
I think I may have seen your truck around once or twice. I don't drive mine too often anymore since I live close to work. Glad the vid helped though!
Do you work across from 443 Sqn at the airport? I was up there on Wednesday helping my crew install some equipment on the apron and I think I spotted your truck.
Sure do!!!
Just did this and tie rod ends, injectors and a fuel pin also did steering coupler
Glad I found this video. Great job!
Awesome, thank you!
Beautiful truck
Thanks!
Killing it! Nice video
Good video, it helped quite a lot.
Great video..if .had you paint those parts 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️it would look really good
Maybe one day
Thanks for a very informative video. It seems a bit less daunting to do now. Still a big job though!
I hit subscribe. Mine is a 93 w250! Thanks again.
Thanks for the sub!
Nice vid very clear instructions thanks for making it
Nice video Tyler
Thanks so much for doing this!
Here to help!
Awesome video. Where did you find your grill blanket?
Thanks. I bought it from FIA. Robert at 1st gen industries now sells them. Just google 1st gen industries for his website.
Where can I find that winter grill?
I got mine from the FIA website
can you post a detailed parts list please. Awesome video!!
I go over all of the parts at the beginning of the video, hope that helps! I didn't keep track of an exact parts list.
awsome work,great video,nice truck
Hi Tyler (or anyone), if i pull out my kingpin bushings from the top and the whole knuckle falls and leans on the top kingpin, does that mean my bearing or something down below is broken / beat up / needs to be replaced? i can shake the knuckle with that top bushing out and it seems to move around a bit on the bottom. thank you internet! i appreciate you and happy new year
Hi Joey, the bottom is a shaft through a bearing. It'll slide around a bit until the knuckle is in place with the king pin bushings and springs installed on the top. If it moves around on the bottom after everything is installed there is a problem. It doesn't take much to take the bolts out of the bottom and check the shape of the lower bearing race and shaft though if you are already in there.
Great video
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing the video! Gonna replace the the rotors as I’m getting the wobble when I brake. I saw the rotors you bought. Do you think crosses drilled slotted rotors would be better? Or does it really matter? Thanks
Glad I could help, I don't think special rotors would make a huge difference unless you are doing a lot of braking.
thanks for the video! question on when you pulled the axle... I have to replace the u-joints of my '89 w100 and before I start I just mmm trying got confirm of the axle has a clip in the the diff that needs to be taken off or if they pull right out once undone once the hub and everything id off?
Hi Tyler great Video!! What was the price for all the parts? Thank you!
Where's your affiliate links?
Amazon links in the description box for both USA and Canada Amazon
I am having a problem with the rotor to fit flush
Hey Tyler, Lovin the videos. Was wondering if you could tell me where you got the grille cover from?
Yes! It is a FIA winter front. I bought it direct from their website. It isn't a fantastic fit and I did a bit of modding to use the stainless pins as I didn't want to use the stick on black ones or drill through my grille.
Hey brother too much grease on the hub will cause it to stick. Making harder to take out of 4x4
Hi, Tyler I was wondering what size spinndlesocket that 4 prong was
2 1/2", if I'm not mistaken
I had a Yukon diff and it failed right around 3500 miles, Randy's Ring and Pinion put it in and wouldn't warranty it cause it had been like two years, but I obviously don't drive the rig very much. F Randy's and F Yukon.
could you put the links to the parts you show in these videos
I will in the future. Thanks for the comment! I tend to show the parts at the beginning of the video but I will link them in future videos. Thanks for watching.
Good video though!
how long did this project take you ?
If I remember right my dad and I did it in a weekend.
How much are the king pin kits?
They were actually quite expensive if I remember correctly. Do what you have to do though I guess!...
What factory service manual do you use from genos garage?
I bought the CD for the 92 year model.
How can I contact you? I watched the video and it was very helpful. I would like to pick your brain a bit.
My e-mail is tylerovens@me.com
hi do you know anything about the front break caliper dove tail spring assembly ,theres 3 parts to it i cant figure out how to assembel the one part . if your still in victoria hit me up !it be super cool to hear from you
Yeah I do! The slide pin with the long end goes to the back, then the little leaf spring looking thing goes arch up on top of it. Smack that bad boy in there with a punch and then put the set screw in. Done it dozens of times. Where in Victoria are you? We could meet up some time or I could swing by if you are having troubles. Cheers.
@@OvensGarage oh man you replied thats so awsome !!!!! thank you , i think i have it right but there is a 3rd piece cant figure it out . i live in james bay by james bay community school .ill meet up anywhere you like .
email me neris13@gmail.com
Who makes your grill bra!?
FIA, you can buy them at 1st gen industries.
Thank you heaps for all your videos and love and respect for these magnificent machines
Great video but quality bearing packers are cheap lol
If you aren't having fun you aren't doing it right ;)
Spindle not thing I'm old but you're pears are going to harass you for that one mechanics don't use that word just letting you know so you don't do it again
But good video you schooled me on the hubs I wanted to make sure I installed the hubs to spec and so far all the videos I have watched of yours is in detail and precise and accurate my studs all 8 broke at 45 miles an hour in traffic because the guy I got the truck from put aluminum rims on and used 3500 lb studs so I'm being extremely accurate to factory spec as I go back together so I don't have an issue like that ever again
Too many adds, someone is greedy
Excellent video
Thank you very much!
