Tried a lot of DEs when I was switching to Linux. KDE is what finally worked. Its strength - extreme customizability - is also its weakness because most new users can break their plasma shell, but once you get over that hump, nothing like it. I run KDE no matter what distro I am on. If I change, it'll be for a Window Manager.

So it is as classic as it gets... and it's also by far the most stable desktop distro I have ever used. I have installed it on (very) different computers/laptops of all ages, and haven't had any issue at all. So for me, it's now the go-to distro. It's easy as Mint but even more solid in my opinion, and with better repos :)
I am now at this stage where I can fix about any problem on a Linux system (nothing to celebrate since I have used Linux since 1998) , but at the same time, have no patience anymore for wasting my time on unnecessary troubleshooting. And I did bump quite a bit into unnecessary troubleshooting in a number of "rock-solid" systems, during my last distro-hopping session.

I had multiple stability problem with ubuntu/gnome desktop and recently migrated to Kubuntu.. It's very stable/customizable. I mostly work with python/rust/vim/tmux/zsh-powerlevel10k/chrome browser/calibre(pdf,epub) and I approve this.

I'm surprised that the GNOME DE is not as customizable as KDE. I thought that Linux was suppose to be all about customization?
Since I have a Windows background, once MS dropped Win 7, I had to switch to something familiar and KDE seemed to be the best. So, I used Kubuntu.
They should probably ship KolourPaint with Kubuntu which is like MS Paint.
They should ship Onboard, which is like the virtual keyboard of Windows.
I wish the system monitor offered more options.
Other DE seem to have a very limited system monitor.
The other thing is that they need to get rid of the dog food. mibibyte and kikibytes. Just write KB, MB, GB, TB.

Installed Kubuntu to try it out and I like how it looks and runs. One of the things I really like about it is it doesn't seem to have the same challenges discovering and sharing files with my Windows PC's that other distros seem to have. It finds my Windows PCs and my other Linux PCs easily. The only problem I've run into that I can't seem to figure out is that I can't install any apps on it. Either thru terminal or the resident discover software manager. I've tried to find out why but I have yet to find an answer. And there are lots of people with the same complaint.

Switched to Kubuntu after 15 years of gnome Ubuntu. KDE is so much better for a PC. Installation was a breeze, everything works out of the box, only made a few tweaks to window buttons, and that's it. The default KDE apps are so much better than the gnome apps I used. I find the gnome Ubuntu is ideal for my TV instead as I don't want a PC experience on a TV, so the dumbed-down interface of gnome works well.

I've ran Mint, Parrot, Gardura and now Kubuntu....and I love it! Mint seems to get laggy due to updating something by accident. Parrot home was running smooth for a year, and then after update i can't transfer picture from my phone...just keeps loading. Also I have a Steam account and play some games like Star Dew Valley. So I'm just tweaking and installing steam now....I really hope I can dump my phone with ease on Kubuntu. I think it should be fine. 8 also like a lock folders. I'm not computer wiz but I understand the basics of Linux and learn when I can. I just like the feeling of being less vulnerable to attacks I guess.
Anyway, great video thx and yes I subscribed! :) oh I also chose Kubuntu because I laptop is about 6 or 7 years old. Sony Vaio core i5, 8gb ram....Kubuntu should be fine right?

kubuntu is too awesome. great looks and everything. rich premium look with los of customization. great difference from the plain ubuntu. noticed however some minor things - box selection of desktop or folder icons lags a bit - more like some kind of latency that starts drawing the box select a few miliseconds after you actually start it which is weard but not much of an issue. just might tug on my nerves in terms of snappyness at times. animations are great and can speed them up as well. i think maybe this is ideal for high end computers. for old computers, this might get a bit laggy here and there since its feature rich being KDE.
