Her hubby will be super pissed that she crashed the new car he bought her............ If she bought it herself she wouldn't be driving like such a ****.
Exactly. This is my most pet peeves. Those who lack lane discipline and use the wrong lane as a means to get ahead of traffic as if they think they are saving significant time. I wish there are cameras set up in these types of junctions
On the edge of York at Grimston Bar it's two lanes at the roundabout, the left lane used to be for the A166 only (I'm going back a few years before they changed it) and the right lane was for the A1079. The number of idiots that used to come down the left lane and try and squeeze across in front of traffic in the right lane was ridiculous, it's a wonder we never saw any accidents there. One day a guy came to the depot to complain a bus wouldn't let him in when he was trying to do exactly that, when we pointed out the lane markings his response was "they are advisory only" There's a lot of idiots on the road. Incidentally I saw someone scrape a 70 reg Peugeot against a boulder the other day when he was trying to squeeze through a gap that wasn't there
Many years ago I had a car deliberately knock into me on my motorbike because I passed him 'on the inside' on a roundabout and 'everyone knows you shouldn't pass on the inside'. The only thing was that 'the inside' was on his right, literally the lane nearest the centre of the island, which is of course, perfectly legal and ordinarily safe in the absence of psychosis. Some people are not only too stupid to understand concepts but then use their misunderstanding as _casus belli._
Agree, she should of realised that she wasn't going to out run the Cammer off the line, lifted off the accelerator and slotted in behind (that doesn't make it right) Yes the Cammer could have been more aware but it would be fair to assume that the VW would of been turning right. That the fact that she said that those from the right have priority after the collision says it all!
@@flemit35 There isn't an outside lane as its a mini round about. It looks like the right hand lane should turn on to the right hand mini round about and the left hand lane goes on to the mini roundabout where the crash happened. It looks like a very odd piece of road. The lane markings are very clear though.
You gave both sides of the story, but honestly I don't see there being any fault of the cammer. I think he/she drove patiently and correctly. Unlike the SUV.
I believe he wasn't placing any blame on the cammer, just advice to increase the chance of avoiding the collision. As despite being in the right the cammers time was wasted by the collision.
I don't know about retest looks more like a straight forward 6 month ban for undue care and attention and dangerous driving then be made to do a re-test
Got to laugh at people wanting a ban etc. A large part of the population would end up banned with the stuff I see on the roads if the police did even half their job. A large number of people could be banned in one day for using mobiles, speeding etc. It would make the roads quieter, but I wonder how many people saying that would themselves end up with a ban.
Especially as she seems totally unaware of the moving traffic violation she made: an offence of failing to circumnavigate the central marking, unless her car couldn't manage it, in which case it's the offence of driving an unroadworthy vehicle (as other cars, the cammer's for one, managed it).
Lol she has no idea. From my experience if there's two lanes which say to go straight and you and a car next to you is at the front of the traffic light general the car on the right has right of way
She’s correct actually - you give way to cars coming from the right that are already on the roundabout. But that’s irrelevant in this situation because she was coming from the same entrance (not already on the roundabout) and going the wrong direction for her lane. The fact she said this is scary - perhaps she thought the car she hit actually came from another entrance which is even worse because it shows she has absolutely no awareness
I’d like to add that in my opinion the SUV was approaching far too quickly for both the conditions and the space. This is highlighted by how the snow comes off their bonnet under breaking. Approaching this quickly will clearly impact (pun intended) their judgement.
The car is new so maybe the harsh braking was to do with the not being used to the newness of the brakes, maybe the driver had, had an older car before and did not have as sharp brakes, just an observation on the bit to do with the harsh braking before round about, but I could be wrong obviously.
@@gnizzel07 nah that is a rubbish excuse, I've driven brand new cars and 2nd hand cars, it really doesn't take much to get used to them, this is clearly a case of braking as late as possible to try to jump across the roundabout
@@gnizzel07 that’s a great point about the brakes on the new car which I hadn’t considered. However I would point out that any responsible driver would get used to their new vehicle before driving in traffic, especially when weather conditions, like the snow, are a factor. All that said though, we know the SUV driver isn’t the most responsible as they were planning a right turn only lane to go straight ahead
I have no idea why these videos started appearing on my feed, but I'm glad they do. For anyone that is willing to watch them objectively, they help us to become better drivers. Anyone that thinks they know it all is a fool. I've been driving for about 27 years and I'm proud to say that I'm still learning.
Its actually the one message I dislike Ashley giving, that other people being idiots means you have to take responsibility for them. Sorry, if I was crashed into in this manner I would in no way blame myself. The reality of daily driving means the things Ashley pointed out were understandable and did not at all contribute to the accident.
@@StackerNoobUK I think he just states what could be done on their part to stop it from happening, not that it’s their fault. Similar to being told not to go down a dodgy street at night. If you get mugged, it’s not your fault, but you could have taken steps to keep yourself safe.
@@calastyphon2510 Yeh I totally get that, but this driver did next to nothing wrong in my opinion, followed the rules and was doing so quite safely. Any rules that were being bent were understandable and very common practice in busy traffic situations. Sometimes no amount of preparation can help you avoid absolute thunderc*nts like this.
One thing I thought you'd mention is the way the snow slides off the bonnet of the VW on approach to the mini roundabout. This suggested to me that she was already driving erratically, a reason to keep an extra eye on motorists such as this one. To summarise, she's clearly quite self-entitled, and I hope the insurance companies help Zachary out in this situation. Keep it up, Ash 👍
And also that according to the Highway Code, you’re supposed to remove all snow from your car that could fall off into the path of other road users. A lot of people seem to miss this and not want to put the effort in. In the middle of a fairly slow town it’s one thing, but I’ve had it before when huge clumps fly off someone else’s car on a motorway and land straight on my windscreen in the next lane.
@@MattyClivingthedream You realise that @Ashley Neal used to drive a BMW 3-series and recently switched to a VM Golf as his DI car? :D Though I have to agree, I find Audis, BMWs, Mercs and VWs (pretty much in that order) are top of the heap when it comes to viewing themselves as far too important to have to obey road markings and signs the way they expect lesser mortals to...
Ashley..... not sure if you missed a trick there....... @1:19-1:25 Passat appeared to go straight ahead. Obviously we all saw the Golf do the same. It seems pretty clear cut that the SUV was in a rush. Very heavy braking (snow/ice cascading off the bonnet is a clue) and maybe not the first time that driver has attempted this manoeuvre. I am inclined to say that Zak was accelerating in the same manner as anyone else would - see a gap and go, rather than dawdle. I would strongly recommend the junction be redesigned to a one lane; not two.... then that would eradicate future incidents such as what we've just witnessed. Three cars in quick succession really indicates a pattern here - more than a coincidence imho. Stay safe everyone 👍.
Blimey, the SUV is only about a week old in this clip. I'd love to see it now. It must look like it's been driving around Syria for a couple of years if that's the standard of her driving!
@@bobsmith3291 Well some of them are if you believe what appears to be truthful travel information on line. It was just a jokey comment about driving a vehicle around during a civil war and what the said vehicle would end up looking like. Oh dear, now I've made a joke about a civil war. Sorry if that has also offended you.
Love that lady clapping! Awful driving by the new owner of the SUV. Awful junction design by thew highways department. Wouldn't cycle across there if you paid me 😂
I used to cycle round a double mini occasionally; its actually quite easy, for exactly the reason that all the car drivers on here are saying "that looks difficult". The fact that it is difficult in a car means everybody is going slowly (slower than a cyclist can), looking all around them, and being pragmatic rather than assertive about priority. It is certainly a damn sight easier than the large fast roundabouts I used to cycle round every day.
In terms of the cycle lane, it's hard to tell with camera FOV but to have a cycle lane and what becomes two lanes of traffic, that all looks pretty tight. If I was a cyclist approaching this double roundabout I would probably dismount and walk around rather than enter that fluster cluck on wheels, but that's a personal choice. Yes, the camer should maybe be more aware of cycle lanes, but this particular layout looks pretty dangerous for everyone. With folks regularly diving down the inside I would probably absent mindedly be trying to avoid my wing mirror being swiped by another car rather than think of bicycles. In terms of adjusting to the VW when it doesn't turn, it would be pretty hard to see this and correct in enough time. Trying to keep your eyes open and give way, predicting traffic flow on a double mini roundabout is hard enough without someone just diving up the inside and hoping you disappear. That's before you factor in the low sun and poor visibility etc. I probably would have struggled to notice the SUV given everything else that is happening. SUV is ultimately completely at fault for having no idea how to read road markings and navigate a roundabout. If they really thought they had right of way then that's outright scary, they need points and a driving refresher course of some kind.
The battered Passat and Golf did the same thing, so I'd have been aware of the possibilty. If the cammer followed the 2nd roundabout rather than trying to straightline it (which makes me think they WAS aware), then no accident would have happened - and the silver VW would've got away with it. Too many self important, selfish arseholes on the roads, and the couple of police on the roads are only interested in speeding offences, not road safety.
@@waynedl99 Being from Canada, I have limited familiarity with this layout. From watching many clips online it seems as though nearly everyone straighlines these roundabouts, while my instinct would be to follow them. I now fear that if I were to follow them, folks would be constantly trying to overtake me like the VW, since they may assume I am about to turn on the immediate left. My question is, is straightlining for "through travel" proper practice, or are they truly meant to be followed?
"You're supposed to give way to the right". Clearly the other driver has a sense of entitlement. Regardless of the fact that she is wrong because the road markings say so, that sort of mentality leads to thinking that it is okay to mow down a pedestrian on a pelican crossing if they have the audacity to cross when the red man is showing.
I agree this is entitlement. There’s far too many people who believe the rules are not for them and that only suckers or weak people follow them. There are, believe it or not, a few of us left who recognise that a civilised society depends on people abiding by the rules. Alas the “nobody’s going to tell me what to do” brigade are ever increasing in numbers 🙁. This woman did everything wrong and clearly acted in bad faith throughout.
At 1:24, you can see the sun reflecting from the lane arrow to the cammer’s right. That lane is right turn only. The Tiguan should have turned right at the first mini-roundabout but continued ahead. They’re totally at fault here
Can't see any bloody markings cause of the sun. That's probably the first problem in this situation. Then there's the issue of double mini roundabouts.
I thought Ashley caught on to that when he mentioned the car being new. Perhaps much harder brakes than they were used to, they certainly hit the brakes far sooner than they'd need to if they were slamming them on.
If you "care" for the safety and convenience of you and other road users you will clear snow off the roof and bonnet. Several reasons for this. 1.Bonnet, so snow/ice aren't constantly peppering your screen once moving at speed. 2.Roof, so it doesn't spray off on to following vehicles or slide down and take out your wipers under braking. 3.Patches of recently jettisoned snow and ice don't add to the already hazardous journeys of cyclists and motorcyclists. VW driver clearly at fault.
The lady behind was the headsup of what was about to happen, she kept a keen eye on her right mirror at all times, she paid so much attention to overtaking vehicles, it's that local knowledge that is important.
@@sinista.productions Stopping should never nearly cause a collision, It's what I would expect any driver experiencing a medical emergency to do and its the reason we keep breaking distances and pay attention...
It’s probably taking so long as the SUV driver likely lied. Many years ago ( my first accident) I was hit head on. I was in my lane/side of road and the car came round the bend on the wrong side of the road (my side). I had managed to come to a complete stop before she hit me. Lucky it was a very slow impact. But for some reason I lost and was found at fault!!!! I had only been driving just over a year. By chance I found out that she had completely lied so I informed my insurance and they just said tough she is deemed to be more experienced (as was in her 40’s and been driving 20 years) and you’re inexperienced 🤬. She also let slip to me that she was recovering from another car accident and this was going through court and apparently could hardly move but was able to drive, jump out and run round her car bending down and looking it over. Also from a friend at the time she has done similar to his dad a couple years before. I actually don’t know if she made a claim against me or whether I just wasn’t aware of it? But there seemed to be a pattern!!!
There’s a worrying tend I’ve noticed, drivers not using their indicators at roundabouts which has led to a few near misses. I dread to think what’ll happen in the future.
@@bridges24 Nearly everyone doesn't indicate right for past 12 o'clock, yet they're seemingly really keen to indicate left to leave, they also probably think "I'm a good driver. I indicate at roundabouts"
Indicators are weirdly an advisory, they're not compulsory. You can't rely on an indication or take it for granted, you have to wait until the potential hazard in front of you has cleared before proceeding. Someone else put it as 'you are responsible for the vehicle in front of you'
You don't have to use indicators when exiting a mini roundabout, or going straight. Bigger roundabouts with lanes also don't require them. Anyone already on the roundabout has priority so if you've been in near misses, you need to learn to assess the situation more appropriately before pulling out. There's more to look at than a flashing light. Tyre direction, speed, road position. It's something that takes time to learn but it's your responsibility to do so, especially if you're putting yourself in front of cars already on a roundabout and causing them danger.
she may clap, but it is sadly typical that she did not stop and offer her details in order to be a witness. The cammer is lucky to have a cam, without this the outcome could be different.
I find it extremely unlikely the police would attend such a trivial collision to report such an incident. The police are also widely reported as being uninterested in dash cam footage unless it a was a serious incident. So likely this stupid driver will likely remain belligerent and continue driving in exactly the same way. I'm frankly surprised this isn't a blackspot for minor collisions, it likely gets like that every rush hour morning, and in a 2 minute clip we saw three vehicles do it... If that's typical, there's 90 cars an hour that cut ahead out of that lane. Even if what happened in this clip is a 0.1% (1:1000) chance that's 26 accidents a year caused by a pathetic road layout. The insurers in all cases must surely have tried to implicate the council before now... problem roads and junctions like this need reporting, and dealing with. While it's easy to blame the twat headed drivers in each case, the road layout is enabling it, while the poor traffic flow encourages it.
Just like to point out that the white Suzuki in front of the cammer at 1:32 dealt with this situation perfectly, by waiting for the golf to make their move by holding back. If you suspect other's are going to use the island incorrectly then avoid a collision by waiting for them, if you take priority just because you're in the correct lane then this type of collision could happen.
Thanks for sharing another instructive clip Ashley (and Zachary - hope the insurance is resolved soon and in your favour!). Fault overwhelmingly with the silver SUV imo, unfortunately the sort of selfish entitled plonker we all have to drive with our wits about us to guard against. Not showing any consideration for the conditions, the difficulties they might cause others or the correct and safe way to negotiate any hazard. Dreadful and dangerous.
With the quick amount of time it took for the VW driver to come along and then move through the round about(s) I have to wonder if the DC driver even saw her before the colllision.
Yes, especially with the confusing roundabout design and all the cars moving about with very narrow gaps. The traffic is requiring all the attention of the driver.
SUV was trying it on just like the car before it. They won't try that again. All it boils down to in situations like this is impatience, they don't want to queue. I hope the cammer gets paid out.
Nope. No matter what the outcome of the insurance claim is, the SUV will believe they were absolutely in the right, and carry on doing exactly the same kind of thing.
Not really. As a result of this the cammer's insurance premiums are [likely] going to rise so although the physical damage may be repaired, they are still [likely] to suffer financial loss.
The driver clapped because that roundabout they always shove you out of the way, had a few near misses myself there. The SUV was chasing the first car that went straight across instead of turning right.
I respectfully disagree. Multiple lanes reduces congestion during high traffic periods. People should learn better Lane discipline. We have cameras to enforce speeding, why not the same to support penalties for this kind of reckless driving?
The SUV driver braked really aggressively (hence the snow shooting forward). I think she was hoping that she didn’t have to stop at the roundabout and was already planning to drive straight across both roundabouts, until she had to brake at the last minute. She was driving aggressively in my humble opinion. No need for gangsta granny to start applauding mind 😎 Poor lad
yes. *sometimes* you can get away with it (not that you should if it’s not a straight o/merge lane) on a big roundabout if you catch it right and you don’t have to stop, still risky of course. pretty much impossible on a roundabout this small. every one of the 3 drivers that does it here forces the car in the correct lane to have to react.
It's the insurers, I was involved in an accident, where it was a cut and dry rear end, however the insurance co wasted 5 months trying to get me to say i was injured when i wasn't and wouldn't progress the matter. just called 3-4 times per week to tell me they will get a doctor for me and i just need to say it "hurts here".

So a double mini round about, good to know there're things like this... @6:28 I bet that lady has seen so many people knowingly going straight without turning right to jump the queue and getting away with it, finally getting one back...
Its poor road planning but there are literally arrows painted on the ground so there is no confusion, the only issues this could ever cause is people piss cutting the roundabout
@András Torma because the right hand lane isn’t meant to be going straight ahead so that leaves the room. Remember you don’t have to go all the way around a mini roundabout, you’re allowed to cross over it. I teach my students to ensure their left tyre goes around as that’s sufficient
Very instructive video. Hindsight is 20-20. Camera car driver could have checked offside mirror and seen the VW SUV doing the overtake. Also it looked to me like the camera car driver didn't follow the contours of the roundabout but cut straight across. So even if the SUV had been turning right, the camera car didn't leave room. Before taking a straight line through a curved hazard, one needs to check for potential conflicts with other vehicles. Good spot re the cycle lane, I didn't see that until you pointed it out.
It obviously means that if I illegally overtake you, you legally have to slow down to let me in. But if you try to legally overtake me, I'll race you until you have no choice but to pull back in behind me to avoid crashing. I know this because I learned by watching everyone else drive.
As a delivery driver for Sainsbury’s I see this all the time. Almost everyday. So many people don’t look at the road markings and follow lane arrows correctly. Had several near misses because of this and it’s always because I see it happening and actively avoid it. Although I shouldn’t have to.
yes I agree it seems like one of those junctions where people are regularly diving down the chevrons, through the narrow gap at the bollards where the cycle lane finsihes and then barging their way onto the roundabouts to try to go straight-on. I think Ashley's point about keeping out of the cycle lane can be a really positive bit of defencing driving that could actually prevent this sort of collision by forcing the impatient drivers to hold back. Did you also notice how, after the impact, the SUV driver zoomed past the cammer to go and park up. They didn't even have the sense to let the cammer move off first! Also, I'm wondering if the SUV was trying to turn right at the second roundabout (as at teh point of impact they were straddling the roundabout) which would have still put them in the wrong..
Something has been missed here. Look at 3:07, the markings on the road clearly show that the left hand lane is turn left or straight ahead only and the right lane is right turn only, so the cammer is in the correct lane. The left turn commented on by Ashly is actually just a bit of snow on the road. The VW incorrectly uses the right lane to go straight ahead driving over the centre of the roundabout, which put the VW driver clearly in the wrong.
SUV straddled the roundabout centre. police did me for two wheels on the centre on a much narrower road with a smaller awkwardly placed roundabout that it was virtually impossible not to clip plus there were no other cars in sight including the police car which was hiding behind a fence. Apparently it was a favourite spot for them. Roundabout has gone now as it was impracticle.
They both straight lined the mini roundabout as well, utter disregard for lane discipline in busy traffic and as you say, 'got away with it before'. Loved that Lady at the end :)
VW driver 100% at fault, they couldn’t be arsed queuing and tried to jump the roundabout. Not sure camera car could have done anything to avoid it, like people have said ‘you can’t fix stupid’
another great video showing what can happen when people don't concentrate on road markings .. Theres something similar that happens by Stanley Road police station which I'm sure you're familiar with, were traffic in a right turn only go straight ahead.... One of my pet hates when I'm driving.... Theres also the junction on Walton Hall avenue were people from Barnsbury Road turn right and also from queen's drive down Grandison Road... Perhaps this could be a future video for people to learn from?
I see it everyday, always at the same three roundabouts. I've been cut up a few times, and it's just people queue jumping. I ended up clipping some lady's bumper because she tried to switch lanes but stopped in the middle of both, probably about 10mph at the point of impact (start / stop traffic) No damage done to mine, a small dent in her bumper. The first thing she said to me was "I've only just got the car back from the last person who rear ended me" She went through the insurance and claimed the repairs, ended up as a 50/50 fault. Then her lawyer phoned me saying she's claiming whiplash and can't work. Long story short, it failed. No case, no payout lol. What's wrong with some people 🤔
One other thing to mention is that the regulations require you to go round the paint unless impracticable. There seems plenty of room here for a car to do so, which neither of them did.
There is a benefit yes, but people behind rarely stop, you will even see in some dashcam compilations people will record an accident in front of them, laugh and carry on driving even though the video evidence will be a massive help. People rarely stop to offer assistance in these scenarios.

It's also a roundabout Not an Overbout. I had an accident some years ago, and it took a year to get sorted in my favour, the guy didn't have a leg to stand on, and a week before court gave in and I got a nice letter from the insurance to say I was blameless.
VW knew it was queue jumping, has probably done it a hundred times before, it got caught out this time, hopefully expensively. It's basic bullying on the road, using the vehicle to bludgeon past a queue on the pretext of turning right, then forcing the cars who have queued to drop back. Needs points on the licence for aggressive driving.
Yeah, we have some two lane mini roundabouts here. You can always tell when someone is planning to do this because you see them approaching the roundabout way too fast. The result is that many drivers have taken to just hogging both lanes effectively making it one lane.
The fact it has taken nearly 7 months for the insurance to direct fault of a crash which is so obviously who is to blame is mind boggling, Corona or not.
I think it’s also to do with how minor the accident therefor the damage will be, it’s low down on the priority list, I had someone reverse into my car early last year outside my house and the insurance took over 5 months to deal with it, March this year I had an old man pull out on me on a junction that cut across a dual carriageway that wrote my car off and it only took his insurance 10 days from the day of the accident to fully payout to me.
VW 100% at fault, 1st mini round about is right turn and not straight, SUV as usual thinking they are bigger and can push though life without regret. I didn't spot the clapping till you mentioned it, brilliant 👍
I have to push the road rage feelings aside when I see drivers blatantly taking advantage of others kindness and pushing to the front of lines they obviously know they should wait in. Such narcissists.
On a normal round about, if the queue for left/ straight on is huge, I’ll go in the right turn lane and go right around the roundabout go straight on. Can’t do it on a mini round about though.
Oh, you're one of those people who think that rules don't apply to you. That attitude is exactly what causes accidents like this and the need for road designers to be even more restrictive.
That is possible. I'm going to assume he did his mirror checks before moving off and that he was caught off guard. We've all had that 1 driver catch us all off guard while driving even with mirror checks (don't forget your blind spots).
He may have been aware of it but I would say it would have been very difficult in the time involved to have discerned that the VW had not turned left - and by then there was nothing he could have done about it anyway. Her decision to violate the lane markings caused that collision and she should be the one sanctioned.
Even if he didn't, to be honest, it's not his responsibility to, given that he's in front, an the SUV shouldn't be anywhere near him anyway, since it's in a lane for turning off.
I agree that this accident wasn’t the cammer’s responsibility, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t have to look. He =might= have been able to avoid the crash.
This is why I have a dashcam - it's saved me from many a tricky situation to explain. For example, in one situation a taxi driver reversed into my wife while she was stationary. With no other information, she would have been at fault - with the dashcam, no debate is possible. In another situation, I was rear-ended on a 2 lane divided A road, with 4 cars in the chain, I was at the front. The car behind me claimed no damage and drove off, the driver at the back claimed only 2 cars were involved. The insurance company started their dispute process which I cut short with the dashcam footage. Would never drive without a dashcam anymore, make sure it is front and back.
I'm happy with the cam-car in this clip. All the drama caused by the SUV. Two points to add, which I didn't hear Ashely mention: I think on approach to that first mini-roundabout, it would seem that it is 'standard practice' for cars in the left lane to keep tighter to the kerb to allow anyone genuinely turning right to pass alongside and make progress. So, in this instance, our cam-car is also being a courteous driver as no cyclists where impeded. Secondly, by going ahead from the right-turn lane on the first mini, the SUV ends up aligned in such a position on the second mini, to either just drive straight over it (like they ended up having to), or having to steer excessively to at least makes some sort of effort to drive around it (like you should). Yup, the more I see of it, the worse it gets for the SUV...
It’s a shame the woman that clapped didn’t stop and give details to be an independent witness., I’d also say the speed of the SUV whilst under the speed limit was still excessive for the conditions. Hope the cammer gets it sorted as I’d put the blame on the other party but regardless he’ll be penalised for the 3-5 yrs sadly.
Totally with the cammer on this one. When a roundabout is busy, as this one obviously is, it is good practice to move briskly to avoid interrupting the flow of the traffic. The cammer was well positioned to exit the first roundabout and the silver car would have probably been in his blind spot. Although he was probably aware of it, he would have expected it to be turning right. Given the size of the roundabouts and the two lane entrance, there would have been very little time for the cammer to react once they realised (if they even had a warning) that the silver car was trying to overtake them on the roundabout.
This mini-roundabout is very familiar to me, as I grew up nearby. What's also familiar sadly is the self-entitled behaviour of the German SUV driver (who probably had the car on a lease), evident in their blatant misuse of the right-turn-only lane because queuing is fit only for people in "lesser cars"...
Give way to the right? She was coming from behind! If you look at the video again you will see that the cammer had to move the right so he didn't burst his tyre and derange his suspension on the kerb.
both hands off the wheel to clap. Also, I always clean the snow off our car before going out in it, just seams to be a good idea while the heater picks up and window defrost etc.
"The broken line around the cycle area means you can go in it if it's safe and necessary..." I wouldn't say that. Legally, a motor vehicle can go in it; however, the guidance (which may be considered to determine the standard of driving in court) says you should not go in it unless it is unavoidable. It is almost always avoidable. Nor would I say it turns out not to have been a problem - decisions shouldn 't be taken using a retrospectograph. It could have been a problem in slow-moving traffic: the position would have prevented a cyclist from using it safely, had they approached; and the slow-moving nature would have prevented the driver from correcting his position. There was no need to be in the cycle lane, and it may have invited further problems by inviting overtakes or informal dualing.
All the cars comming down the right are half over the chevron markings which I believe isn't allowed, thus adding to the issues in this situation, the cycle lane should be solid and only single lane use for cars and only split at the rounderbout..

I was involved in a small collision just like this 5 years ago. The car that collided with me was in a right only lane approaching a roundabout and I was in the left lane to go straight ahead, which was clearly marked on the road. As we both entered the roundabout the driver of the car on the right didn’t look in his mirror and swung left taking my wheel arch off and rupturing my tyre. The guy argued with me for about 15 minutes that I shouldn’t have been there, to which I got fed up with and after taking his details I sat in my car until he left so I could go about getting my car recovered. The claim was dragged for about 18 months to and from each party then out of nowhere my then insurers (Tesco) just gave in and settled 50/50. After this I swore I would never drive a vehicle that didn’t have a dash cam and I would never ever use any insurer underwritten by the same company for any insurance ever again. I was told by Tesco insurance complaints team that this type of collision is so common they just settle at the earliest opportunity usually, no matter how many witnesses and / or pictures you send in.
I have come across many mini roundabouts where drivers don't follow highway code rules and priorities, especially at rush hour, when it may speed up traffic through the junction. Like queuing in the bike lane in this clip to make it easier to have two lanes of cars at the junction. You just have to be very alert when not familiar with those new "rules".
The Lady clapping wasn't so "brilliant". Imagine a bystander clapping when you're BMW got hit on camera then making no attempt to take or give details to you of the culprit. Taking pleasure from other's misfortune is NOT NICE. Besides taking both hands off the wheel.

You're so right Jon, couldn't be arsed to stop and give her details as a witness, or clear the snow off her bonnet either like the SUV that crashed. She was also far too close to the cammer in queuing traffic, clearly never heard of 'tyres and tarmac'.

One day a guy came to the depot to complain a bus wouldn't let him in when he was trying to do exactly that, when we pointed out the lane markings his response was "they are advisory only"
There's a lot of idiots on the road.
I'd say it's pretty cut and dry that it's the fault of the SUV driver.
Agree, she should of realised that she wasn't going to out run the Cammer off the line, lifted off the accelerator and slotted in behind (that doesn't make it right) Yes the Cammer could have been more aware but it would be fair to assume that the VW would of been turning right.

Sense of entitlement or not, I think she just has shit-for-brains, above all else, for even "thinking" like that.

You can see how the suv is driving far too aggressively by the fact the snow comes flying off the front of their car as they hit the brakes
Cammer definitely not in the wrong. The Volkswagen went straight in a right turn lane!

Something that irritates me is people who indicate at the last possible second. And they probably think "I'm a good driver. I indicate at roundabouts"
Agreed

I always found mini roundabouts difficult especially double ones. I'm glad they stopped to exchange details.
The SUV probably only stopped as she believed she wasn’t at fault and our cam driver was to blame and wanted her new car repaired by his insurance.
I also hate mini roundabouts and the atrocity shown in this video should be ripped up and a big roundabout installed instead
Easy - 6-8 points for Without due care for the SUV

Does not understand what give way to the right means? Can't fix stupid I guess. Don't know how they pass a driving test..
Personally I think the council need to do a bit of digging and just have a real roundabout in place
One thing I’ve also noticed is the amount of snow still on the cars. That’s definitely a bugbear of mine.
Does Ashley's voice remind anyone else of ringo starr in thomas the tank?
Well they are both Liverpudlian, as was Michael Angelis who took over from Ringo's narrative role.
I remember in Ashley's earlier videos, (before he used to do "piece to camera") people used to say its "Pat Phelan" from Coronation Street.
yes I agree it seems like one of those junctions where people are regularly diving down the chevrons, through the narrow gap at the bollards where the cycle lane finsihes and then barging their way onto the roundabouts to try to go straight-on.
Silver VW SUV driver needs to retake her test.
That assumes she took one (and passed)...
Not sure camera car could have done anything to avoid it, like people have said ‘you can’t fix stupid’
another great video showing what can happen when people don't concentrate on road markings
The Karen went over the roundabout. The Karen was in the wrong lane. Karens fault 100%
Could you use the word Karen a bit more please. On second thoughts that word is worn out enough.
Found the triggered Karen.
@@red2 and I've found a triggered Karen word user 😊
Look at the rear view shadows as they pull away. The VW seems to move towards the cam car.
nothing annoys me more than people using wrong lanes to cut a cue
I see it everyday, always at the same three roundabouts. I've been cut up a few times, and it's just people queue jumping. I ended up clipping some lady's bumper because she tried to switch lanes but stopped in the middle of both, probably about 10mph at the point of impact (start / stop traffic)
No damage done to mine, a small dent in her bumper. The first thing she said to me was "I've only just got the car back from the last person who rear ended me"
She went through the insurance and claimed the repairs, ended up as a 50/50 fault.
Is there any benefit in this instance for the woman behind the cammer to offer her details as a witness, even if she doesn't have a dashcam?
There is a benefit yes, but people behind rarely stop, you will even see in some dashcam compilations people will record an accident in front of them, laugh and carry on driving even though the video evidence will be a massive help. People rarely stop to offer assistance in these scenarios.
@@K.Pilkington Have only witnessed 2 such incidents in 30 years of driving and on both occasions, I stopped and gave my details. On one occasion where someone rear-ended me, a taxi stopped and gave me his details as a witness. So I think it may happen more than you think. To turn it around, would you stop?
@@fabsy64 I don't have any statistics unfortunately so it may well happen more than I think. Just going from accidents I have been in myself or people I know personally, I've never known anyone to have witness details. I would like to think I would stop to provide evidence but luckily I haven't witnessed any third party accidents myself. We'll done to you for stopping, I'm sure the innocent third party was very grateful.
@@K.Pilkington Yes, we can only go on personal experience. Fortunately, on all those occasions, they were pretty cut & dried so there was no need to contact me or them afterwards but it's always good to have witnesses just in case.
The VW Suv standard of driving!
The lady in the pug clappin is what its all about! she seen everything and she probably predicted the impact...great driver!
VW 100% at fault, 1st mini round about is right turn and not straight, SUV as usual thinking they are bigger and can push though life without regret.
I didn't spot the clapping till you mentioned it, brilliant 👍
The lady in the car behind nearly caused a second accident by clapping and blocking the roundabout
@@rogerwilco2 explain to me what rule that’s breaking?
I’m wondering if the cammer even saw the SUV before the crash.
Anyway, this is one of the most idiotic road layouts I’ve ever seen!
@@mrblablablabla Of course, it would have helped in this context.
The cammer looks like they straight lined it too.
Just another _"Monkey see, Monkey do"_ situation. Obviously saw that it could be exploited to barge ahead of queues.
Money may buy happiness but unfortunately it doesn't buy intelligence.
I'm happy with the cam-car in this clip. All the drama caused by the SUV.
Two points to add, which I didn't hear Ashely mention:
I think on approach to that first mini-roundabout, it would seem that it is 'standard practice' for cars in the left lane to keep tighter to the kerb to allow anyone genuinely turning right to pass alongside and make progress.
Take her license away, that is some dreadful driving. Give way to the right? She clearly hasn't got a clue
Totally the VWs fault no matter what the cammer could or maybe should have done! Some people just think they're too important to queue!!
When I saw the video was from
Bradford I had to watch as I lived in
Bradford for most of my life and Bradford is a awful place to drive

@@stonestreaker Or maybe even 'exist'
both hands off the wheel to clap. Also, I always clean the snow off our car before going out in it, just seams to be a good idea while the heater picks up and window defrost etc.
She clapped but almost got hit by the white car herself
I spotted the white car and thought how thoughtless of her clapping as it meant she wasn't in control of her car
Nor would I say it turns out not to have been a problem - decisions shouldn
't be taken using a retrospectograph.
2:10
and it doesn't end till 2:55 !!
You're right.
Cammer shouldn't be there.
All the cars comming down the right are half over the chevron markings which I believe isn't allowed, thus adding to the issues in this situation, the cycle lane should be solid and only single lane use for cars and only split at the rounderbout..
"I may noteth be perfect, but I am far neareth than some of thee cattlebreeds thy see upon the roads." - W Shakespeare after coming home through Birmingham on the M6 instead of using the Toll Road.
The VW not only drove through the splitter chevrons but also went literaly straight over the mini roundabout .. something that would have been impossible of an island was present rather than the painted dome
Yes in the netherlands its built like that
Problem is articulated lorries and omnibuses, to give them their full name.
@@keith6400 : yes it would be right to say the larger vehicles need to cut the painted zone when turning ... but i don’t think a VW is quite as long
I was involved in a small collision just like this 5 years ago.
Entitled chelsea tractor driver
I agree. Also while she was clapping her car was obstructing another vehicle. Plenty of accidents have been caused by people gawking at other accidents. Lady should perhaps focus on her own driving to ensure she does not do the same
You're so right Jon, couldn't be arsed to stop and give her details as a witness, or clear the snow off her bonnet either like the SUV that crashed. She was also far too close to the cammer in queuing traffic, clearly never heard of 'tyres and tarmac'.
@@Stettafire I noticed that too, she was causing her own problems, not good from her
@@Stettafire while she was clapping, the cammer car was blocking the roundabout exit. If she was going straight she had nowhere to go.
