I agree that it’s not the most complex lyrically, but its kinda nice to have a song that just gets you hype. As many said, it’s a song that helps give you confidence bc you just flat out say “I’m fly.” when people write songs about being building confidence, it feels like that have to be grand and emotional. But this is kind of a fake it till you believe it vibe for me. “XG is fly and I’m Alphaz so I’m fly too” is how I see it, which is very on brand for the group.
I believe they kept it simple to allow Hinata, Chisa, and Juria to rap a couple times. The more complicated raps belong to Maya and Cocona and the only singing really is the bridge. Surface level raps but a super swaggy song. Acid trip of a video.
I believe that the mini-album NEW DNA, including TGIF, was an aspect of showing the breadth of what XG can do. All the songs are of different genres and concepts. Personally, TGIF is not my favorite tune, but their performance and singing were great. XG has such a wide range of expression that I have no idea what kind of music they will be putting out in the future. The girls keep me excited all the time.
Appreciate the honesty, and I agree with you on this. Flex songs aren't my thing because of how empty they typically are lyrically. The dance practice for this was really good though, used multiple camera angles to create a runway type of scene. I imagine this would be cooler in concert.

Oh yeah lyrically this one doesn’t speak to me but everything else in the MV and song is fire! Absolutely insane visuals and beat a song to get you hyped up for sure.
What I got out of this song is that you don’t have to be perfect or have a perfect body to be fly. You can have the confidence and believe that you are perfect, even with an alligator eye or have three hands. I love this song. Maya stood out the most for me in this song.
Lyrics are tongue and cheek playing off the alien x-gene theme. They landed on earth causing a scene realizing they are fly creatures in comparison to the planet. They sound like they're flexing but really don't take themselves too seriously and being silly with it. New Dance is a bit similar in that these alien girls discovered something that's new to them which the multiverse video kind of shows.

I love this song, I think I’m one of few that really loves this song. It’s reminiscent of ballroom/vogue culture for me. Which the house becomes family often for those who do not have anyone and you get to experience a whole new world and scene it helps to build confidence and allow a person to interact in a different way with the world. So while the lyrics seem rather surface, I get that, they’re is that deeper meaning or implication of building confidence in one’s self and having self love and self acceptance. I could be reading too much into this and it could be just total flex. However, given the sounds and feel it speaks to a genre that helps to build a community that is often overlooked. It’s the great think about art, it’s subjective.
As old school hip hop guy, yeah, lyrically not my personal favorite. BUT. I am also a sucker for surrealistic arts. And ... yeah ... this one did it. If XG does some pure rap titles with surrealism elements in the MV, like Missy Elliot back in the days, I think I'm ready to die.
This is just my guess, but since XG is working with the global market in mind, I had the feeling that this song was designed for the European market rather than for the North American market. It's my least favorite song, but I think this song had some role to play in their global activities.
