Creepy Bad Endings # 34

- Bad Endings. I don't know about anyone else, but they terrify me. Just when the hero(es) thought everything was finally right, just when it looked like peace had finally returned to the world, something happens that, at best, creates a bittersweet victory and, at worst, spoils everything and the enemies win, despite everything that happened throughout your adventure. Bad endings don't give you any second chances, you screwed things up for everyone and you must pay dearly..

Episode 35: ua-cam.com/video/MeRDFk2A9bQ/v-deo.html
Hey! I really appreciate this video! I can't believe it's not even 10 years old because I felt like I used to watch it a lot! I was wondering, now that Dracula X has been ported to modern consoles, as well as Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night getting remasters on PS4 with updated dialog, AND the PSP 2.5D remake of Rondo out too, would you be interested in remaking this video? I'd find it interesting!
The thing that drives me nuts is the fact that dracula has a son but vampires have no blood at all so they cannot have an erection.
That has got to be the best comment I have ever got on UA-cam.
Dracula... somehow gives birth, then give his own name (but backwards: Dracula=alucarD) to the child
While I'm here, I'm going to guess she used turtle power to get through the spikes.
P.S. I have an idea for what happens in the cut bad ending:
A) Alucard nearly kills Richter, but Maria stops him.
B) Shaft releases his hold over Richter, killing him in the process, and possesses Maria.
C) Alucard is forced to kill Shaft/Maria, and the castle is destroyed
D) Alucard makes the speech, and the game ends.

Pfffft, everyone knows ladies don't want a guy that only explores 195% of the map!! Every mother warns her daughter about guys like that! Heck, I'm sure every girl remembers bringing a guy home for the first time and being embarrased as her parents quiz him on how much of the map he's explored.

There was some Japanese radio drama, which takes place one year after SotN.
"Apparently, Maria succeeded in convincing Alucard to stay and the two of them are now living in a house outside town. Knowing that it would be difficult for Alucard's tormented soul to heal after killing his own father, she was caring and affectionate towards him, but despite her best efforts, he remained emotionally distant."
...
"Witnessing Maria's brush with death, Alucard finally displayed some emotion towards her. He apologized and Maria ungrudgingly accepts it."

The reason I am here looool
Now let's talk about the DK endings.
I was about to bring that up
I don't get the hate that the hate that the voice acting gets in Symphony of the Night. Yeah, they sound a bit over the top at times, but the writing is solid and the way they talk makes it believable, since it was so long in the past. I really liked the voice acting there.
I've never heard the original but I played the Dracula X Chronicles version and thought it was really good for a port of a ps1 game. Games weren't exactly known for good voice work back then. With exceptions like MGS.
The PSP English dub is GOD AWFUL. The PS1 dub is actually very good, but both versions suffer of a major problem: majorly mistranslated scripts. Thankfully patches for the PS1 and Saturn versions exist to provide a far more accurate script to the official Japanese original.
And i like it because its fucking hilarious especially at the beggining
Richter is bad but the others are pretty good.
@@ethanhinton4549 especially Dracula... Because actually, his voice actor had voiced a popular anime character who is also a vampire and rejected his own humanity too... You know who it is...

I disagree about Rondo of Blood having happy music in the credits. The music is powerful, and it fits any theme in the endings: the three of them at peace after overcoming everything, Richter and Maria mourning a loved one, and just Richter carrying the weight of being alone now.
The endings are simple, but the art and music make them really great.
Yeah I beat the game and only got Maria. When I was at Stage 3 I just really wanted to know what was over there, and it was when I resorted to save-states. I didn't know about saving Anett though or however her name is spelled. So when I did beat Dracula it all just hit me. I think it's sadder that way, because it's easier to tell that you fucked up, rather than the one where he's on the horse, when he just did his job.
Boi you're so right
It fits in almost any ending of any video game and makes it more epic.
Change my mind.
TheSilentStorm
The song is sad for me ;-;
Agreed, it’s not happy music, it’s more dramatic and intense than anything.
LMAO! I knew he'd fall off the stage before grabbing that orb! The fact that he didn't edit it out entirely and added an "oops" made me laugh so hard! XD
Oopsies he did its againz
DarkLore Its like adding a comical *dunk* when someone hits their head, the icing on the cake
"The anti-Belmont defences worked!"
He's gonna be laughing about that all the way to his resurrection.
To me, the ending theme of Rondo of Blood is the perfect example of a music so neutral that it can be put with either a sad or happy situation and it'll still fit.

You can cause a softlock by having Alucard land the final hit in wolf form. He won't jump high enough to make it to the portal and just walk into the wall forever.
lol, must try that next time
I found a glitch that let’s you fight richter as richter on the mobile version
Well, in Rondo Of Blood, there is of course a ''bad ending'', but is not so directly explained.
If you don't rescue a certain maiden, she will not appear during the credits, meaning that she died or it's fate become unknown. Now, if Annette doesn't appears, speculation can appear, being one of those fates just dying because Dracula sucked her's blood.
But in the remake; Dracula X Chronicles for PSP of 2007, if you actually fail to save Annette, Shaft's ghost will be replaced by a VAMPIRIZED ANNETTE as the boss of Stage 7, not only forcing you as Richter to fight and kill her, but also failing in your adventure, because with Shafy's Ghost alive he will rescue the Count after defeating his second phase, finalizing the battle prematurely with both still alive and prepared to continue the war.
So in summary: fail to save Annette and you lost the entire game.
If we connect the ''regular'' bad ending to Symphony Of The Night, as you said, Richter and Maria saved the world, yes, but Richter then seemed to be angry not only with the Count, but also with himself for failing to save his girlfriend, that's one the worst things of being a hero, blaming yourself for not being capable of saving each life that passes away. That gives even more power to the bad ending of SOTN, because one could say that Richter became crazy about that, allowing his dark emotions to rise even more than in the good ending (Richter is somewhat sensible to the experiences and even if saving Annette, Maria and other people, he still could gave some dark feelings emergening from the events of 1792) and explaining why he become mind-controlled by Shaft, for trying to reviving the Count to kill him again and again in his madness and torture.
So after you kill him, in somewhat you liberate him from his madness, but at the cost of his life. A sad story to be sincere.
PD: If we take DXC as the Canon game for the events of 1792, the only end is the good one, so yep, Annette is still alive alongside Maria.
Make sense
I did get to that part in Dracula X Chronicles, but as Maria. It was honestly heartbreaking to see that Annette would become evil in front of her. I assumed that freeing her and getting to that place would reveal that, oh shit. That wasn't Annette. It was a demon using her appearance to trick both Richter and Maria into thinking it was too late to save her. No, that kind of stuff didn't happen anywhere else. It's actually true it happened, and you were forced to kill her entirely.
12:33
Turns out that everyone in CastleVania know that they live inside a video game
Castlevania is DDLC confirmed
40:26 A man without a map isn't popular with the girls
Here's something I realized. If someone didn't know to rescue Maria and Annette, then the worst ending isn't so bad. However, if you rescued Maria but not Annette, the game knows you tried but failed, and rubs it in.
Those final ending scenes look kind of annoying to read, since there's no red text box and the white text is just camouflaging with the fluffy white clouds in the sunrise...
How did Annette NOT drown in her cell? It was completeley filled with water down there.
If they actually made the ending with Alucard killing Maria and Richter, that would have been ridiculously soul crushing. I'm kind of sad they didn't do it. Interestingly enough, although Shaft's plan didn't quite work the way he wanted it to, he did succeed in one thing. Richter's defection to evil tainted the Vampire Killer whip and because he used it on a non-enemy, he ruined it as a weapon and no Belmont can use it for the next 200 years. Which is why chronologically all the games after this one have everyone but a Belmont as the main character.
Way to screw it up, Richter. Good job.
OneTrueBelmont The whip disappeared after the events of SotM (most likely because the Belmont Clan has been told about Nostradamus' prophecy and swore to never use it again until 1999), but Alucard did defeat Dracula in the official canon. After a while, the Schneider family (think of the male protagonist of the N64-games) found the whip somehow and gave it to the Morris Clan later to wield it in an emergency until the Demon Castle War, where Julius Belmont received and used the Vampire Killer for good.
Also, Richter still used the whip against Alucard only, who is part-Vampire, so there's no way the Vampire Killer could have been tainted somehow (in fact, if Alucard had existed during the creation of the whip [Lament of Innocence-spoiler incoming!], his soul would have been as compatible as that of Sara Trantoul, the fiancée of Leon Belmont, since his soul would be willing, but tainted).
I hadn't thought about that angle, although Alucard isn't old enough to have been a willing victim. I think in this game it pegs him as being almost or around 400 years old. It would help if we had one game that spelled all of the confusion clearly AND gave us that chance to finally take out Dracula once and for all before he got reincarnated into someone into coats with fur.
OneTrueBelmont
Won't really happen thanks the reboot/alternate timeline of "Lord of Shadow".
Probably right, but I can always dream...
OneTrueBelmont
Let us dream together, my friend.
22:57 A pretty Christlike scene, right down to crucifixionesque imagery and soldiers with spears...
And then it all goes so dark and diabolical as Lisa's Christlike sacrifice is twisted into Dracula's nightmare and imposed on Alucard in an effort to break and brainwash him, the devilish irony is brilliant.
The final boss' "secret audio" sugests that you have to fight against Richter and after you defeat him, Shaft possess Maria and you have to defeat her too. I never listened to this. this game continues to surprise me after all theese years. Congrats for the great video, man
38:38 Castlevania logic: explore almost every dang thing from the castle. Bitches loves guys who knows the castles.
"Then go down the platform to find Annette in a cell!" ... but, there was no door to the cell.
And... the floor was filled with water.

I've never actually played this game, and this one line has lasting appeal for me. Such an important lesson contained within two lines.
"maybe she has a thing for cartographers?"
Eh... it makes about as much sense as the Cave Story endings.
*Speaking of which*.... _hint hint_
"Use axes, they're easily the best weapon for the battle."
this is also accurate for the werewolf boss fight in Dracula X Chronicles, (and the rest of the level)
"The blood that flows in my veins is cursed. 'Twould be best for this world if I were to disappear forever."
Even though it's literal in Alucard's case, that's a pretty apt summary of depressed suicidal thoughts.
-Alucard! How is Richter?
-He's dead. XD
I've always loved your videos, whoisthisgit, and I also see you're a fellow Brit. The opening and closing Lub Lub thing never sat well with me, but I recognise full well that the character means a lot to you as a form of signature and wholly support that. To cut to the chase, this video is really just fantastic. It shows that you really hold your videos to a high standard.
I feel the same way as you with a lot in SotN. Personally I found the voice acting wasn't too bad at all, especially Alucard himself - no other choice could ever fit him, after playing through this. I've always found Dracula quoting the Bible to be a truly inspired touch that stayed with me for a long time.
It's such a huge shame that we never saw this version of Alucard again in an important role, but that's life.

5:00 Can’t you just love the dramatic music of Richter struggling to open a door?
Although the ending where Richter saves them both is perhaps the happy one for Rondo, for continuity's-sake, I almost think the one that just had to happen to add an extra zest for Symphony was for Maria to be saved while Annette perished. It adds character development for both Richter and Maria.
man ive been waiting for this vid creepy endings and ghastly glitches are my favorites of your series

I played Dracula X not long ago and it is now the first Castlevania game I have ever completed, and I made sure to get the best ending the amount of times I had to go back because I died though and because I lost the key or went to the false stage 4 was unreal though...
I'm now playing SotN, and I must thank you for fully introducing me to these games. I already knew they existed but I probably wouldn't have played them if you hadn't done a Creepy Bad Endings on them, and I wasn't even aware SotN was on the XBLA until you mentioned you were playing the Xbox version.
Again, I must thank you.

(10:43) No, Annette still survives. In the Japanese manual for Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Maria is referred as Richter's sister-in-law. Since Maria is changed to Annette's sister in Castlevania: Dracula X, it would appear that Annette survived.
