I HAVE BEEN googling for a few days trying to find a tutorial on this type of sound and you sir have nailed it - really excellent - thanks! turning the multiband on the compressor was jaw dropping the difference that makes is enormous!
Serum has such a nice sound! what ever I make in serum I try & remake in vital.. some sounds are better in vital.. & some in serum! but overall I am VERY happy I brought it!
super video man...thanks heaps!!! been wondering how Kalya scintilla and a bunch of these pay dub cats are getting these sounds..and you've given me a bunch of techniques to check out with Serum.
Not sure. I mean, whenever I try to make a psy dub beat it ends up just being a 4/4 kind of beat. Or it ends up sounding like an obnoxious dubstep beat. While on your releases they all sound so organic and smooth sounding. It could just be the sounds or the bass that are sequenced with the beat.
+Antandra I reposted that tutorial because the audio and video were out of sync: ua-cam.com/video/OvM3Jp6zQSA/v-deo.html I've posted several other new beat-making tutorials on my channel as well. More to come. Enjoy!
Lucas Tecun Been improving my quality. Thanks! Just picked up a new podmic. The one I was using was way too quiet for sure. The podmic sounds way better. Still a tiny bit quiet, but I’ve figured out I can turn down the internal sound while recording and boost everything in post. More to come when I get around to making them.
Any idea why my serum doesnt produce the same sounds you get with the same settings you use, the sound i get is completely different and there is like a whole bunch of textures that I dont even hear in the slightest
Depends when you started. I had another alias with some tutorials awhile back. I’m always learning as well. May have not known when you started. Serum was a worthwhile purchase though. This technique works in almost any synth though. Lots of fun getting different types of squelches depending on the synth and processing.
When you ad the pitch modulation, is there something to be done to counteract the pitch change while keeping the effect? I want the kind of extra squelch that comes from the pitch, but I still want to keep my bass in a clear musical tone, not just as an effect. Thanks in advance, you tutorials are good!
Earthman I could never pick just one synth but it’s a very prolific one. I use it more than most. each synth has something unique about it though. Choosing a set of limitations can lead to innovations.
megaplexXxHD yes, the initial percussion I was able to get pretty close to using the resonator effect in Ableton on some foley sounds with a frequency shifter and beat repeat automate/macro the pitch of the resonator and set to one octave range. Add the beat repeat grid size to the macro as well. I also limited its range to taste. Playing with short delay times, resampling and editing to perfection is another approach for similar results. The breakdown perc is a little more complicated/layered. I suspect granular synthesis with a sample of keys jingling or a similar metallic sound with other perc syncopated around it.
If you cant pay the full price at once, this is a great solution. Rent-to-own based payment. So you pay 10 bucks a month to rent the VST. After a couple of months, once you've paid the full price of Serum, the plugin's all yours. You can cancel any time. But I doubt you will. Serum's probably the craziest wavetable VST at this moment. splice.com/plugins/15493-serum-vst-au-by-xfer-records?

😍 those sounds
Yea, this is pretty awesome. Love your music too! You should take us through how you come up with beats.
+Dan Dawson Thank you for the suggestion. Can you be more specific about what you're interested in knowing about my beat making process?
+Dan Dawson I'll see what I can do.

You can use a vocoder to combine the pitch modulated squelch sound with the fixed tone bass.
That's a great idea! Thanks a lot!
You bet! Good luck! You could also try using a pitch correction tool.
You can also get interesting fixed pitch squelches using FM modulation and/or Comb Filtering.
thx
its the most complete video about lead psy
(Y)
Thanks for that! Really glad you enjoyed.
thank you :)
I guess the Serum Xfer is the ultimate psychedelic synth.

Antandra ...Thank you for doing tutorials 🙏🏼
How do you make those like psychedeic percussions? They sound like metal percussion or something i hope you know what i mean :)
Can you give me an example?
yes brother :) check this track:
soundcloud.com/indra-official/indra-back-to-india
The percussion that starts in the breakdown?
you can hear it playing starting at 0:03. so first drop already. Its like a gated flanged percussion i dont know how to explain hehe
