Thanks so much for wearing the headcam and taking the effort to post this, it just about made me cry. Riding like this is no longer an option for me due to an injury. I could feel your horse under me the whole time. It brought riding back to me for just a bit. Thank you.
this comment made me feel so grateful yet so sad , i wish you the best enjoyment of anything you do in your life and salute you for all you have accomplished !
You said well sat to a lad and I was like “ye that was impressive” then the next jump I saw the same horse riderless and I was like “that wasn’t so well sat” 😂 sorry I make myself laugh
Love how you don’t care about how fast he goes you just praise him for what he jumps🥰 You have so much bravery to do a race like this! Good job on getting your stirrup back in, i would’ve gone flying!!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🤩🤩🤩🤩
Brilliant. As a younger man I hoped to find a horse to ride in the GB. Seeing your brilliant film has reminded me not to have such high performance ideals as such a low performance person. You gave that fantastic horse a wonderful ride. What I would give for a horse like him... I think I have his name right in my head. Mungo the Honest. I lucking fove him.
Booloavogue Honey Clover is HIS full name! Not really a boy's name, hence Honey will do! I've had faster horses, but never ones that jump as well as he does, or that keep their head when all around are losing theirs!
That was awesome, thanks for sharing! For a moment there I thought you’d gone at 8:37! (did he hit it?) What’s the course length? That horse has a big engine and a big heart. I’ve never tried anything like this, but on the odd occasion I’ve ridden XC (hunter trials mostly) my objective was just to finish, and let the placings be whatever they will be 😊
You'll never force a horse to jump. These horses all have their ears up or slightly back, listening to their riders. Horses genuinely enjoy exercise as well. They enjoy it.
I' hunt my horses because I enjoy i but I believe they go around due to instinct - when scared, run fast, and stay with the herd. If you could honestly give them an option to either stay grazing peacefully in a paddock, or this, they would choose the former. (Stabled horses may choose to go out riding to overcome boredom though).
Good question, as there's a fine line between 'excitement' and 'stress' (he does backflips on the start line with me!). What I do know is that he loves being around me and the crazier stuff we do, the happier he is at home. For example, when he's footsore and needs boxrest (eg not go anywhere!) he's VERY sad!
At one stage one of our horses would panic and run at the drop of a leaf and definitely became stressed when other horses began running, while his stable mate relished a run with other horses, so long as he could take up what he assumed was his natural place in the lead
@@harrymacleod2668 all those riders would freak me out. Actually, i was stressing just watching it. One rider in particular was beyond irritating...one of those lane-changer types. Anyway, i could run that maybe on my own, but surrounded by a cast of thousands. No chance!!!
“Fuckin’ well sat buddy” - I thought the exact same thing. Also I gotta day I’m an eventer, but this is next level. I love it though, would totally give it a try.
@@harrymacleod2668 Ya, a lot looked like TBs but I saw at least one pinto so I knew that was not a TB and figured there were more non TBs. I suppose there're a lot of cross breeds too. In any case, damn good horses. We don't have any sort of races like that here. We have eventing but none of this stuff. Crazy shit!
Honey (or Mungo as I call him) is an Irish Sports Horse who would jump the moon for me but he isn’t fast, and I’m fat hence we don’t win but we have a great time
@@harrymacleod2668 I think you will enjoy this. In Maryland, US. Not sure we even have this in Canada (we live in western Canada; Alberta). No brush, the fences are ALL SOLID! ua-cam.com/video/pfr2hLL48SU/v-deo.html

I loved how you were talking to him, encouraging him all the way around. This is an excellent partnership.
Great to watch, he may not be fast but he was trying for you. Loved how you told him to look at the jumps, well suited to each other.

Great to hear a jockey praising his horse, never knew this race existed,i will be there 2019.
He may not be the fastest horse--but wow he jumps & stays!!!
Great riding . Love how you encouage your horse.. Brilliant partnership . Thanks for sharing
Love the way you talk to your horse. Thank you for sharing this great ride.

haha, I didn't clock it till I watched the video! but yes, that fence at an angle caused quite a few issues!

Glad you enjoyed it! We did!
i love the pure in couragement you give this horse you guys are a perfect match !

Wonderful video. Thanks for taking me along. My jumper was a chestnut so it was deja vu. Hope all participants were ok. 🌸🐌💙
That horse got a heart of a lion good ride
Wonderful watching - thanks for posting it
One hell of a test of endurance for horse and rider - glad you both got round safely in one piece 👍🏼
Wow! all I can say is that you are very brave riders!!... I probably wouldn't have the nerve to do it!
Thank you for posting. A great round.
Brilliant, thanks.
Watch Lucy Holland ride it side saddle!
Love the jockey praising his horse❤️
This video makes me want to ride again! That looked so much fun, what a good team :)
He’s a truly wonderful jumper actually ❤. Happy New Year! 🎆
You and your horse work very well together
Loved that! Thanks for posting!
What a great team! Reminds me of my pony and I back in the day 🐴
Thanks for the awesome ride along!
You bet!
What a beautiful horse you’re riding!
For some reason it reminds me of WW1 horse trails and training methods. And I love it ❤
Well done, awesome round. Did us proud 👍
Verbal encouragement, every time. Subbed.
Great ride, well done!
It was fun to follow along with you and your very good boy Mungo!
Can you tell me what the white patches on the horses rumps are?
Your number Kate, so if you fall and your horse keeps going they can match you to them at the end!
great riding and well done for finishing

What a GOOD jumper he is - such a trier ! 🥰
Did anyone else hold their breath thinking he fell but it was just his helmet cam the fell forward
I thought that too 🤣🤣
combien gagne le gagnant ??
Thank you. Brilliant.
Great video, glad you got home, safe.
Not the fastest beast out there but by god what a fantastic and talented jumper he is. Such a steady boy.
He's got the heart of a Lion. Unfortunately he's got the feet of a ballet dancer and because he's sore is having the season off!
Great reliving through your head-cam, had the bonus of including finish hedge ;-) Are you there this year?
Yes, of course! Can't wait!
Whoo Hoo Honey to follow again 🙂
The thrill of the chase. So great to be able to ride across land not usually a thing you can do without the landowners permission.
Not a horseman, so an honest question: Do the horses get excited and enjoy the race or do they "simply go along?"

Hello, What is the name of this sport in the UK? thanks.
Hi Ruben, it's called 'Hunt Rides', related to Steeplechasing but with less rules! Closely linked to 'Team Chasing' albeit with loads more riders!
