These simulations along with my piano music (Spotify/UA-cam: @pardonmypiano ) are part of my lifelong project called "In Terra Pax" that aims to bring financial and emotional support to victims affected by earthquakes around the world.

I hope my simulations will educate the general public about potential earthquake related hazards and create more curiosity about Earth Science in general. I do also hope that my videos will inspire a future generation of amazing architects, engineers and scientists! We all need to peacefully work together to make this world a better place. :)

OMG! You predicted this! 2 weeks later, thankfully, it was 3 degrees magnitude lower.
It's quite a coincidence!!!
But it was so shallow and the plate so rocky that at many locations it felt like a 7
YO EarthquakeSim, STOP SUMMONING EARTHQUAKES TO DESTROY NEW YORK!!
And here we are 2 weeks later, and this fault produces a M4.8 magnitude earthquake, the strongest earthquake for this area since the New Jersey 1783 M5.3 magnitude earthquake, what a coincidence! 😮
Yeah I’ll just move to texas-
I literally live on a nearby fault line system: Clarendon-Linden fault system
The fault system is mostly the reason why Warsaw NY is pretty active.
And by active, I mean 1 every year

There are uncountable Fault lines around the World and many of them at Places were an Earthquake could cause serious trouble. Places, most People didn´t even knew they could get Earthquakes.
Well, now here's a new fault line system: Clarendon-Linden fault system
Last earthquake reported was a 1.0 in Greece, a city in the Rochester NY metro

Nice video. It shows from how far the earthquake can be felt. Think the longest distance in this case is 2000 km? Imagine how far a 9.0 earthquake can reach
true! well, the Eastern US geology is very different than anywhere in the world. Here seismic waves can travel without losing much energy. From New York to Florida, that's about 1400km.

Another really great video!! The amount of damage on structure seems huge based on the Mercalli rating(talking about 6 7 and 8 M parts) and i was wondering...is this because of the earth/ground attributes in these areas or maybe the infrastructure quality?
it takes both into consideration. The Mercalli scale uses decription of local effects, both for infrastructure, how people perceive the shaking and also ground effects.

Hmm ... from my own experience (January 1st 2024 Noto Peninsula Earth Quake in Japan) a size 7.5 I felt as size 3-ish shake in Osaka which is around 400 km (250 miles) away. If a size 7.5 hit New York ... it would probably be felt in Boston and DC as a 3 or 4 ... but once you get below a 3 it's hard to notice. People in Virginia and Maine would probably not feel much.
Would the tsunami hit then europe/africa or is it too far away?
Tbh the earthquake in this scenario is on a overland fault line so most likely won't be a tsunami since they usually occur with underwater earthquakes
this scenario would not generate any tsunami
No Tsunami to expect, but a Seiche (a type of a Standing Wave) could be caused.
No. 7.5 is too weak I think. It needs a megatrust with a length of 500km or more with 8.5+ I think.
Why? The earthquake would be on land not sea genius

its crazy how in the east coast you can feel it all the way to florida, here in the west coast we had a 7.1 earthquake in california on July 5, 2019 and a 6.4 on July 4, 2019, and you could only feel it in Nevada,Arizona and some parts of Mexico, we do get 4.0 earthquakes here a few times a month and a lot of 3.0 earthquakes almost twice a week.
the soil and land the land on the east coast makes the p waves travel farther than in the west coast
it's terrifying how much damage this unpredictable fault can do in a massive quake
Whether or not the Ramapo fault is capable of a quake this size remains a mystery as records only go back to the late 1600s

Wow, you predicted this but lucky us, the strength of the quake was about 3 orders of magnitude lower on the Richter Scale. 😊

I live in washington state, a earthquake could happen on the west coast. Scary thought but I know what to do if I was in a siituation like that.

This would be worse than the big one along the San Andreas faultline in California because New York's building are not built to the same code as California's and New York is sadly nowhere near as prepared as Californis when it comes to strong Earthquakes.
