I might be talking outta my àśś but I'm pretty sure the turfmaster is a comercial grade timemaster but that's just my guess I know the biggest issue with the timemaster was the gas tank size.
This is our go to unit. Our residential mowing crews are very productive with the HDX. We definitely had transmission issues until Toro upgraded the transmissions but a nice fix by them and no transmission issues since.
I bought two TimeMasters last week for our 70 weekly lawn cutting route. So far I love them. Next is to build a tailgate/folding ramp to my F150 to roll them on and off the truck.
@@Abel3270 it yet, doing about 60 in town residential lawns. I have bought a bunch of replacement parts, belts, cables and the idler pulley upgrade kits. We scrape out the deck grass, sharpen the blades and change the oil weekly.

I'm interested in seeing what happens next season with the Scag 30-inch. It's a beast of a machine for sure but supposedly the first iteration had quite a few small problems.
Used Timemaster 30" for the last 6 yrs for 20 lawns every 10 days. After the 3yr mark, there is a cascade of part failure besides the normal maintenance items like belts and cables, like wheel axle assembly, wheel height adjusters, handle bars snapping in half. Is the Turfmaster wear and tear on these parts the same or better? The cables seem to go quickly. I'd have extra of those on hand as well. Over those six years, about $1500 - $2000 has been spent on parts and maintenance items for the (2)Toro Timemasters. Having said all that, the Toro Timemaster has produced a superior cut that I'd assume would be the same for the Toro Turfmaster.
I'll stick with my Timemaster 30. Much lighter, more comfortable. I'm solo and have a ton of hours on mine. If you have a crew, stick with good quality 21 or 22" mowers. You'll have less repairs and headaches. For me, the 30" is a true time saver being solo. Great video.
I have been wondering if the timemaster would be a better option for me. I only cut twice a week with about 550 cuts a season as I do other jobs. Thinkng that with a timemaster I can replace every year or every two years before any big issues come along.
Scag is well made, swivel wheels, revised model but 230 lbs. But the Turfmaster is so much lighter. I looked at the Ferris which can handle any turf. Reliability and light weight paired with good hill climbing, and pickup. That’s what I want.
I am sure this is a good mower but I would definitely NOT decribe it as light !!! That is the main reason I went with the Time Master . I am a solo operator and take very good care of my equipment and it has held up very well !!!
Awesome, thank you for sharing the knowledge! And 1 Million in revenue?? Wow! That is goals right there! Just my 3rd year here. Long ways to go. Congrats on your success :)

I've sold my exmark 30 and now selling my toro hdx after one season. My guys complain that its to heavy when mowing 5 yards all next to each other around 5k sq ft. We went back to the 21 toro and they love it cus its super fast and light weight. They actually got done at the same time after timing them. The 30 is bulky when turning
@@walterrocha8764 I bought the Toro commercial 21" with the Kohler CV173 engine on it. I haven't been happy with it. It has no power compared to the Kawasaki engine. Dealer adjusted rpms to 3200 and made little difference as the mower doesn't generate enough lift. Starter cord broke at 80 hours and when the temperature drops to 10 degrees celsius or less, it takes 15-20 pulls to get the thing to start when it is cold. Definitely need to look at the kawasaki models next spring.
Excellent real life statement here!!!!. Because of the weight of these 30's(especially a 230lb scag) they beat up the crews and actually reduce productivity. I went with the YBravo Gen II 25" commercial FJ180 Fawasaki 130 lbs. not much heavier then a 21", just as manuverable, only $1400 bucks and the couple of extra inches does increase productivity.
I just bought a TurfMaster with the Kohler engine today. It’s heavy, but it’s built to last. I use to run a 48” John Deer with what I called the pistol grip in 5th gear. I’m a 5’3” 120lb female.
@@LawnThumbs I’ve mowed lawns in Virginia and in Texas. I’m retired now, my stepdad passed away in March so I moved back to Virginia to help my mother out. The TurfMaster is to mow my mother’s lawn. I just bought this mower. Quick question. I feel like I’m running behind it when I engage the self propel. You’re walking at a much better pace. Is there an adjustment I’m missing?
The problem is the pulleys and tensioner under the cover. Debris accumulate constantly. You may as well run the darn thing without the cover and blow it off after every use. Only choice is to spend another 1500 or more for a different 30 inch like a Ferris.
Very interesting that you haven't noticed much difference between the Kawasaki and Kohler engines. I bought a commercial Toro 21" in the spring with the Kohler Command Pro 173 cc engine. I have been really disappointed with the mower. It has no power compared to the Kawasaki FJ180v. My dealer adjusted the rpm to 3200 and it still seems to have trouble generating enough lift to give as good of a cut as you see with the Kawasaki engine. I also had a starter rope break at 80 hours and last month, when temperatures dropped to 10 degrees celsius and lower, it would take 15-20 pulls, on average, to get it started.

@@drumhead14 Yes Sir, Since my comment I have spoken to 3 crews that I've seen using the Scagg 30". The other thing they say is that its heavy and they have the youngsters running them....
I wish they had pneumatic tires on them or at least wider rubber tires as it is heavy and leaves ruts. Yes, the Kawasaki is not the strongest engine but it gets the job done.
Am I really so much in the minority "looking for a very solid well built small (say 20") mower that is free of bells and whistles and agile" ? Anyone aware of a mower ticking these boxes? Need one for doing small banks or in and around tight spaces that doesn't need replacing halfway thru a season!
Haha no the turf masters never broke on me. I think I had them for about 2 years. Then I was able to trade them in back to the dealer and I was able to get great value for them. Like more than 50% and I used that money towards a 36” grandstand.
timmed blades=bad new when the belt for the blades go. if that happens then you need a belt, blades and spindles. great vid. id like to see a 36 or a 48 walk behind. oh and they should make it so those front wheels can steer instead of having to pivot the machine to turn. so damn heavy
