Love love this quilt as you go ! 😊
Thank you! 😊
What a great stash buster this is and a way to have a quilt in a day! I’ve recently removed all of the fleece blankets from our living room and am replacing with quilts that I am making even if I am using found quilt tops. Thank you so much for this video.
You are so welcome!
If you make the back fabric a bit larger all the way around, you can roll it forward and sew it around onto the front as a binding
This is a great tutorial! I have never made a large quilt before and many instructions seem very complicated. This is so easy to understand and perfect for a beginner. Also, if you haven’t got a big fabric stash it could be a long term project where you can add a new strip whenever fabric becomes available. Thank you!
You're so welcome!
I had some of the issues i saw on the video and i thought i was doing my quilt wrong; but listening and watching you helped to see that what I encountered was normal. I love the quilt as you go process!
I have done this with old printed quilted bed spreads as the backing and batting. I have also used old quits with the quilt face as the new backing. (My quilts are used, not for decoration, and they do wear out). It takes something that some might throw out and makes it new again. The stitching reinforces the old quit, and gives it a new life.
Finally I found the tutorial I've been looking for and I must say... many I have seen but this one is what I been looking for. Great concept thank you so much !
Very nice quilt, perfectly demonstrated. Thank you for this technique - I had not used it before but now I sure will be sewing strips right onto the batting! What a timesaver.
I love this method! Your quilts are fun and really so nice! ❤️
Thanks Lauri I have never tried to quilt as you go. I will definitely try it.
Thank you for the wonderful video. I have spent weeks watching videos trying to find a strip quilt I could make for my daughter. One that I could make without having to buy more supplies. This quilt is perfect! And BTW the ones that can't hear it very well. It was hard to hear on my laptop but on my Ipad you could hear it just fine. Thank you again!
Lovely I'm learning.
As a beginner quilter I found this Video very helpful👏🏼😄
Thank you so much - this video is amazing and so helpful!!! Plus, I love your sewing space!!
Smart idea. The sound was good, no problem. I’ve used that method with placemats.
Thank you for your expertise! What a fun and quick idea for a new quilter like me!
Thank you for your video! I am inspired to get out my jelly rolls and start cutting and sewing. I am new to quilting, but not to sewing.
Hi Laurie,
This has been most helpful!, Fantastic instruction. Also love the scrappy pink as well .
Encouraging. Been trying to Quilt a queen size Quilt on my little Singer featherweight because I wanted to use my decorative stitches. Never again! It's like war! Will definitely try this method next time.
I try to and the same never again..
Featherweights don't have decorative stitches. Maybe you have something that makes decorative stitches but it isn't a Featherweight.
I like this concept. It's easy, but very creative patterns can be made. I plan to try it. I am a relatively new quilter with the machine. Have only done hand piecing and hand quilting. Thanks for this tutorial.
I couldn't hear well either, but I'm making a string quilt for the first time and this video really helped. Thanks for sharing!
Great tutorial. I’ve always wanted to know how to quilt as you go.
I like the idea of using the safety pins. I haven't seen them used before on a QAYG project.
This is exactly what I was hoping to see. Great job, by the way I have the same machine you have and I am sure you know it but just in case you don't. You can set you machine to tie off at the beginning and end of your sewing. Don't you just love this machine? Thanks for sharing!
Volume is fine with ear buds or a head set. Great video!
I love your quilt! I have lots of scraps and I'm looking for a way to piece them. I like that you used rectangles, strips, and even triangles. That makes it very interesting. I just subscribed to your channel, I can't wait to see more of your videos.
Like the technique, and the quilt that was done on the diagonal.
Thank you so much for video!! You make it look so easy and you are a great teacher, I will give it a try.
Beautiful quilt! Strange that people can't hear the video well, my sound is absolutely fine on my ipad.
+arriesone Me too!! and there is a volume button on your computer for those that were having trouble. :)
All my volumes are as high as they go and I can still barely hear it.
@@golfgranny58 I'm sure they know that, but their max volume is lower than on your device.
Hi Lauri Bolland (plumtown). Here is an answer to your question. As far as using jelly rolls for strips, I don't see why not. There is no need for fusible batting however. Fusible batting is notorious for becoming brittle and flammable with wash and drying.

Thank you for this great tutorial! I am making my first qullt this way
Have fun!
Thank you!
Thanks for an easy to understand, cute quilt idea.
Would it work well with spray fusing as well instead of pinning? I love this method, thanks so much.
Thanks for sharing!
Love the idea you have given me. x
great idea ! 😉 thanks for sharing! 😁 great tutorial 😃
THANK YOU !
It looks like fun!!
Did you try it How did it come out Any problems
Great work ..keep on
I love the bright colored one the best!!! But could you please explain the diagonal sewing part in more detail? Thank you!
very pretty!
It really is!
Great idea!!
If you are still answering questions...what kind of sewing machine are you using? Also thank you for showing us how you worked with the quilt while sewing.
Hello Thomasean, I can see that she is using a Pfaff machine!
I have been working on one of these, but didn't pin the batting to the backing. I have puckers in between the strips. Is this because of not pinning or is it a tension problem or maybe something else?
Thanks for the video. Very hard to hear 😔
Could you do this in a diagonal pattern too?
Interesting.
I'm confused. If she basted, why the safety pins?
what size is the bright colorful one? I just love how they turn out and this will be my new project! Thank you....
Hi. What brand of batting did you use for this quilt?
What about the binding? Did you just turn in the edges?
+Liz Ryan Hi Liz, It would be best to do a regular binding. The strips go all the way to the edge so if you tried to fold over edge it would be very bulky.
+National Quilters Circle thank you so much.
I suppose you could spray baste with 505 instead of safety pins :)
+C Fleyfel That's what I would do, I despise pinning!!!
golfgranny58 I love 505, I avoid pinning as much as I can.
I am struggling to hear you. My computer and youtube volume is maxed. ???
I'm new to quilting and it's unclear to me how to finish the edges, once all of the strips are sewn into place.
Hi M, After you trim everything around the quilt, you just bind it as usual.
Very pretty
Trying to watch this tutorial but I cannot hear the presenter. I have my volume up as high as it will go and it sounds like barely a whisper. Other videos sound fine.
String quilt by Alana
Can I print out the dimensions and instructions?
Unfortunately, we do not have this available, at this time.
wow
The volume on this is so low. can barley hear it.
+Liane Heinrich Right? I had a heck of a thyme trying to figure it out!
+jasmo23 Nicely done!
Can I buy that from you???
If you will not be embarrassed about me I will not be embarrassed of you.
Sorry I could not hear you.
Crazy amount of wrangling with the bulk......not for me. Would be easier and quicker traditionally making quilt top.
I can't hear at all!
Really had a hard time watching this as the sound is so poor. Could barely hear the instrutor had to follow along by watching instead. :/
