I longhauled for 16 years the first 2 were in cabovers , at 6ft 2in with long legs I was cramped for leg room, Insulation was poor and short wheel based tractors bounced all over the poor highways of the mid 60s making for uncomfortable rides. I much preferred my long hooded tractors with the front axel out in front instead of underneath. Being able to put my pants on standing up instead of laying down was a blessing. Doing anything to the engine meant jacking the cab up and having all your stuff flying out of where you had it packed. Loading and uploading your clothes, Bedding and supplies was a pain. Nothing in front of you to absorb any of that energy whenever there was an accident.

Cabover trucks aren't coming back because there is no market for them. They are very nostalgic but they definitely had their drawbacks. Safety is a big factor as old truck drivers said when you drive a cabover you were the first one at the scene of the accident

If an American trucker tried negotiating most of the jobs we have in the UK with a long nose they would be begging for a cabover, we do have a few bonneted trucks over here but you would not choose one for general haulage use, I have had jobs in the 70's where it was a struggle to get a 40 footer in even with a day cab Ford D series or Bedford KM and they don't come much shorter than that.

With the right kind of air ride, oscillating driver's seat. I never had a problem sitting on the front axle. The best part was I could see over traffic. Also, it was a hell of a lot easier negotiating the Kansas City caves.

You forget mention that unlike European cabover trucks American cabover trucks cabins were restricted to go forward the front axis. That made entering and exiting cabin difficult. So companies made that complex starring systems.

Because no regulations to force them to stop making useless inefficient vehicles.
Just like airliners aren't forced by law makers to create safe airplanes, and they just pump out airplanes like 50+ years ago (different engines and electronics) but overall they are coffins with wings.

Old cab-overs are. New cab-overs are better than conventionals imo. Better fuel economy, better visibility, need less space for maneuvers, and with the cab itself being on air-suspension additionally to the wheel-suspension, you don't need a conventional. And if you don't need to fit into a length-regulation, you can also build a cab-over with a long cabin, which will still be a shorter wheelbase than a conventional with the same amount of space inside the cabin, so it's still gonna need less space for turns.
