Deaf Futures: Motivating deaf youths and championing deaf leaders (Dawn Butler & Robert Adam)

This week, Deaf Unity Founder, Abdi Gas speaks to Robert Adam, Assistant Professor at Hariot Wall University about motivating deaf youths to reach out and study in further higher education, as well as with Dawn Butler, Labour MP, on how we can champion deaf leaders.
As part of the 25-minute video, Abdi, Robert and Dawn will discuss:
- Differences in inspiration, motivations for and uptake in higher education among deaf students in the UK, versus in Australia and the USA; and the support provided in helping deaf youth reach for their goals
- The importance of role models for young deaf people, and why they are so important in an educational setting
- How parents, whether deaf or hearing, can help create aspirations, motivate and support their children in education
- Why Dawn has focused so much of her career on diversity and inclusion issues, and what more she would like to see from the government and local representatives to champion and support deaf leaders
