    Can I make a suggestion...
Turn the Volvo around and keep it in the front of the shop, do projects at the back half... Easy to roll it out if needed in the future!

Sweet! That bring back some memories. I converted a c303 , T11, into a mobile home/adventure vehicle in the 90s. Took it through north america, canada, alaska some 40000++ km adventure trip. Kept the original volvo B30 engine, so lots of lead additives was used. It had a PTO winch. Replaced the radiator for a bigger one. Mounted a 230liter extra gas tank to get some decent range. 😅 the thing had really shitty gas mileage.😂

Congratulations on the new purchase and the next chapter for you guys, very exciting and can't wait to watch this build series unfold. Quick Word of advice on those drum brakes chris mate, should really spend the money on having them machined rather than hit with a sander or wire wheel. You do run the risk of brake shudder consequently as the surface needs to be smooth as when making contact with the pad

My truck ❤ for a year when I was in the army. You will be amazed what this car can do. Lock all diffs and if that dont work, add chains on the tires and It's unstopable. I had the ambulance version. Only difference is a higher top.

We towed a tank once. The tank was stuck in a swamp. We arrived, gave them our winch cable and tied a chain from a tree to the back of our tgb13 ♥️. With our help they crawled up onto dry land.

Just had a thought , look for second hand shop you might be able to some snowmobile or ski suits .Something like this would be a game changer in the battle against the cold . On that older camper please put a carbon monoxide/ gas detector in there and if it has a gas fridge don’t use it . Find a second hand electric fridge to put in there . The gas ones have a bad habit of catching fire .

Nice workshop! The Cummins 2.8 diesel seems to be a popular swap for these vehicles. The temperature is probably not helping you when it comes to removing those seals. Have you tried heating the brake housing a bit so that it expands and releases the seals? All the best for the build!

I got to say: pretty darn impressed Chris. I had to pull a hub on mine, because the seal at the rear gave up and started leaking. Now I had a workshop manual, be it in Russian, which was a great help. Without it, it would have been pretty challenging. I remember being so scared to miss align anything and forget the exact position to refit. Ended up marking anything 🙄 I did have to lock the diff lock before I pulled the axle out of the planetaire gear the manual told me. Pretty much a deja vu for the rest: either banging your head against the wall or en route to the shop to buy a tool you don’t have 😂👍👍👍👍👍

Not "in the Volvo community" but am in the Merc community and I'm suggesting the OM606 as one of the most swapped engines :) Think that would suit too - unlike say a Cummins swap, which would be awesome but overkill. I've a OM364LA in my Merc 814, love a Merc engine for reliability.

There are some newer Volvo diesel engine at the market and they will turn a little bit more then an old OM thing. All of this is worked out and will be shown to us later on I guess.

@@rvarsigfusson6163 aye, but its a 50yr old truck, and they have "an old OM thing" back in bowser, and want simple and reliable for round the world travel without ULSD requirements. Could be a Cumins, but I still think OM606 is a good call for this truck, although I'm currently on a OM364LA and my next (very slow) build has a OM904 - and even though a OM904 is epic I still think the OM606 is a better match for this build.

Just a quick one mate. Keep the battery for the heater off the concrete as it will drain the power from it.

That hasn’t been the case since battery casings started to be made by plastic. You can store any modern battery on concrete with no problem.

Hi guys don't make brake lines from copper ,copper work hardens and can crack ,not legal in Australia i believe. Warm the wheel slave cylinder then the steel brake fitting should screw out. I hope you can achieve this over haul it is very ambitious with the amount gear you have and experience you have on this type of vehicle. Good luck guys

Ooof... that's a bit of a project. The rules are different in Sweden compared to Finland, apparently. In Finland even 'museum' vehicles need to be inspected I think every two years, and they need to keep being original in order to pass it. I just checked and 50+ year old vehicles in Sweden don't have to be inspected. That's amazing. Granted, it first needs to pass an inspection in original form to get there, but still. I suspect there may be some trouble ahead if it's registered and inspected as a truck and then re-built to be a camper but officially still a truck and something happens or some bureaucrat or policeman decides to start looking too closely at it... probably good to have that discussion with someone, AFTER you have the final inspection done :P

There will be no issues converting it to a camper in Sweden. Just as long as the weight isnt exceeded its max-capacity and they don't add any gas lines for heating.

FYI.. put a chunk of plywood between your new battery and the concrete floor. the floor sucks the voltage from the battery and you will kill it.

Thanks for a great video, just a fact correction, you compared Perth over 2 million population with Malmö city population on around 340000 but Perth is Greater area like metropolitan and Malmö is much bigger than if you use those numbers with 770000 people, still almost 1/3 of third 🙂

Welcome to Europe. I have reached that age when I have invested in a rattle gun for christmas before I did my Defender head gasket ( not for the torque tightening ) more for the undoing and doing to a point. Looking good. Screwfix, Mmachine Mart and tool station good for tools in UK not sure if in Europe. Vevor also seem to be up and coming have had some bits off them . Expawers may be worth contacting as they are in process of converting a van but in Spain, would think you will have seen them on you tube. All the best, should start warming up from now on ( just thought another suggestion Eva Zu Beck vids currently Sweden and Arctic circle). No doubt you will have a lot of other suggestions made. You have probably already found Lidl / Aldi etc. People laugh at some of my parkside tool purchases but if you only want to do it once they are usually reasonably priced tools and I have generally found them better than single use and live in my tool kit. Heavier more often used stuff I have gone to Machine mart where spares can be purchased ( for example with welders and pressure washers ).My first landy was a 2a diesel short wheel base. when you picked that cylinder up I thought that looks familiar. still have a leafy trialler but havent used it for four years. was going to sort it last year but life got in the way try again this year. Cant complain had a good 20 plus years of competing at trials with it to date. If somebody wants something to do while the wheels off , whizzy wheel wire brush and brush / aerosol paint the wheels while waiting to go back on. God I am full of good ideas must gget back on with my own motors. Hardest part getting off the settee (sofa) Ha ha all the best. Last add on the camper might relate to Talbot (for British market at time, may be of use). At least there isnt to many electronics about just lighting and charging if Lucas somebody else can relay those tales.

Gear hubs: look in the oil if there is any signs of metal in them. With that amount of rubbing it should be a lot of metal visible. No metal = older damage. If a wheelbearing was bad many years ago that could have happened then, but it should not be an issue now.

Really interested in this build. Your mog was amazing but huge. Why not keep and rebuild the vehicle Volvo 6? Likely a very reliable and easy to fix on the trail. Looking forward to see how this goes and your tips. Did you consider a pinzgauer? Wishing you all the best on your European adventures.
