-Wow!, As an Ex Lachlan Patreon I had not sadly followed up with MiniDiscTV. Lachlan is BACK!. This is the most comprehensive comparison of a headphone line I have ever seen on youtube... I have been considering the M50xBT and M60x and you gave me everything I need to know (besides an in person audition) to make a decision. Your experience with headphones as well as UA-cam reviews really shows here. Bravo. You also seem a lot more into it than your last few Lachlan videos (perhaps getting a regular pay check is a good thing). Really glad to see you happy and focused...sadly I am not an Australian but I hope Minidisc knows what an asset you are. Subscribed and looking forward to your next review. (Note: sadly I am not in any way financially or otherwise compensated for this opinion...just a fan).

Good comparison. I have the m50x-bt for just over 10 days and here's what I feel about them.
    Pros:
    1. Great sound: in many of the songs I've been listening for years, I can hear more detail and in some cases I've heard instruments that I completely missed earlier.
    2. Superb battery life: I have these headphones connected via Bluetooth for about 5 hours every day. I had to charge them only once after 7 days. I don't know how much these were charged out of the box, but even if they were at 100%, the battery life is very good.
    Cons:
    1. Clamping force is slightly strong, but I can still have these on for ~2-3 hours at a stretch.
    2. There's a slight sound leak. It's not very strong to distract anyone nearby unless they're either very close to you or they're concentrating really hard to hear what you're listening to.

      @Siberius- 5 років тому +1

Usually things ideally get stored/stocked at half charged... is the general protocol.

    • @sloppyprogrammer4373
      @sloppyprogrammer4373 2 роки тому

Con 1. Gets better over time, you were too soon making this hands-on claim. The clamping force gets better (read: less) after 1 month of usage, you can stretch them a little bit but be very careful.
Con 2. Memory foam needs a little bit of time to get adjusted to your head. Also too soon for this claim. The leakage will get less over time (and then after a while worse again when they wear out). Also these headphones don't need a lot of volume to sound good, so protect your ears and don't listen on maximum volume.
To improve on Con 2. get a pair of brainwavz pads, it will improve low-end as well, though clamping force might feel a little bit higher until they are adjusted as well. Been rocking M40x since they got out, then I got m50x and now I also got the bluetooth version. I swear by these monitors if you are on a budget / not willing to pay more than €200/€250.
So, after 3 years, have con 1 and 2 been improved for you? I really recommend upgrading your pads though, the standard pads for the cups aren't too great to be honest.

the best objective and right on point comparison video for m50xbt.
there are too many reviewers talked too much about design, battery, rather than the real meat.
man you covered almost all the possible questions i may have, since i owned a pair of AD700X, audio technica own product line comparison is very interesting for me.
one question i still have is, does bluetooth 4.2 vs 5.0 matter that much? how much does apx codex and apxhd codex matter in BT headphones?

I have to tell you I am very pleased at your description of the comparison to the original M 50 X because those audio bits were concerns of mine and, at least according to your opinion, they are smoothed out On the Bluetooth version. Good job on the video. I was also wondering how all these headphones compare.

But neways u get 40 hours continuous use off 1 charge with the ath m50xbt headphones in bluetooth mode. Wired dosent use the batterys at all. I love the bass these headphones put out n the whole package of sound they produce period. But im a bass guy so i favour these for the amazing clear deep bass they produce. With no distortion at all! My M50x's have served me well, but they have gotten really worn out over the years.
On the aesthetic side, the thin plastic layer finish has cracked off over time on both the earmuffs and the band - Entirely in the case of the ear muffs, entirely underneath the band, and partially on the top. It pretty much deteriorates faster where it comes in contact with your head. Fortunately you can replace the earmuffs, but one may want to consider trying to protect the band itself.
On the mechanical side, things have really deteriorated. A plastic part which ensures that the actual cans stay glued around your ear rather than jetting outward from your head somehow broke. I don't know if some abuse caused this to happen, or if it happened under normal use, but they have dropped on the floor a number of times. It was pretty devastating that they broke in this matter, because they are great headphones otherwise. However it was still able to fix it. The fix I came up with was to rig up the cans with wire and some tension to make them stay in place, to act as a replacement for the plastic part that prevents the cans from swinging backwards.
The latest mechanical problem seems to be the stock wire the headphones come with. It has become flaky such that the left earphone goes in and out. Fortunately it can be replaced with both the stock and and arguably higher quality non-stock cables.
I have been able to use the M50x headphones for a long time, but they have definitely been through a lot. I have only managed to extend their lifespan by specially rigging them up in a somewhat awkward looking but reasonably effective manner. I'm thinking it's time to replace with the ATH-M50xBT since it's basically the same thing but offers more.

I have the DSR and I love the sound. You can actually connect it to your device and you can use it wired but the wire have a USB connector instead of a 3.5mm Jack. I plug it in into my computer or phone and it works with even better sound quality than compared to using it wirelessly.

I know the Audiotechnicas would sound more detailed and more forward in overall presentation. I have ath w990bt and the sony h900n both so i can tell you that.
Personally, the sony hear on 2 has always been my go-to headphones because it has fuller, warmer, and fun sounding, and are very suitable for long listening period. The audiotechnica is more suitable for short session to hear all the detail and positioning of the instruments in the music, while the sony is more suitable for enjoying the music while laying back in the sofa.

    1. How is the soundstage of M50X Bt? I am planning to buy one, but people are complaining that the soundstage is below average.
    2.
Is AptX good enough to be compared with wired? Since there are way
better codecs like AptxHD or LDAC (Sony) out there, which the M50x Bt
    doesn't have!
    3. Is there any latency issue while using the headphones in wireless mode for movies and stuff?
    4.
How good is the bluetooth connectivity, coz I've seen many headphones
start to lose audio quality if there is a wall between the headphone and
    the source!
    Thanks.

Hard to argue about value for money with the 40x. They're cheap, too. But on both the 50x and 40x you probably want to spend $20 on some aftermarket earpads that are a little deeper and larger so the comfort stops sucking.

I would love to know how they compare to the ATH-AR5BT which I have. I like them, but sometimes they tend to be too focused on the highs and the bass may sometimes be too low, but it’s very clear and that’s what I like.
I tried the Sony and the sound is garbage in wired mode, which is something that I don’t like, I want the headphones to sound the same both wired and wireless. Also, they sound ok wireless, but no way near as good as the AR5BT. I also owned the M40x and they were very nice, but the soundstage was a bit too cramped

M50x are great headphones for listening to music and mixing music because they add a bit of colour. So the wireless version is great for those applications too with a little more natural bass instead.
M70x is the most accurate and audiophile friendly closed back headphone, with the M40x a great budget alternative to that.
Honestly can’t comment on the MSR7 or DSR7 or M60x because I’ve never used them.

I think hear.on 1 (100aap/100abn) still sounds better than hear.on 2 (ha900). Hear.on 2 sounds so congested on the high and upper mid region... maybe sony want to play it safer this time, but it just make them sounds cheaper than they should be.

He reviewed the ABN's in another channel but like h.ear on 2 they sound bad in passive and depend on DSP. I have MDR-1000X and they sound great wireless, but awful without powered on and wired. The DSP makes it sound better wired but I get some clipping distortion.
Wasn't a big fan on the hear.on but it definitely had its strengths against M50x. Unfortunately it was discontinued this year. I was thinking of getting it for a clearance price but instead got Takstar Pro 82. Most annoyed by 2.5mm cable but hey at least I can use cables from my broken M50x!

So say I just want a set of Bluetooth headphones to use purely for listening to music that won’t break on me in six-to-twelve months, sound all right to a casual listener, have decent battery life, and aren’t over $300 dollars. I was actually struggling with taming high frequencies in mixes, looks like I made the perfect choice.

Are there any reasons why someone would choose the m50x over the m50xbt? I want to get one but I'm wondering whether I should sink the extra money for a wireless version.

Wired is better, it's not worth the extra bucks especially if it's for indoor listening

I ordered the DSR7 precisly because it does NOT have ANC, I really dislike not hearing my surroundings. Is there a reason there are not really any openback BT headphones?

There is the Grado GW100! But since most people wear wireless headphones outside they tend to prefer closed back.

The MSR7SE was a limited edition so we don't have a pair to review, but we will be reviewing the MSR7BL when that arrives in AU! - Lachlan
