It was definitely a lot bigger in person! If you two haven't already you should make a trip to the swamp. Really cool ecosystem and a surprising amount of history in the swamp
@@halfmoonflyfishing oh wow! & it looked SO big on here! Lol & oh yes we’ve been, most everyone in Waycross takes field trips there with our schools. Lol more than once usually, in elementary & middle school.
Thanks for sharing! I've been wanting to do a kayak trip in the swamp. How long did it take y'all to paddle to that Island and did you have any kind of cell service? My wife will not let me go solo if I have know way to communicate in case of an emergency!
Took about 30 minutes to the island, that was fishing along the way too. We did have cell service but it was spotty, I would bring a Garmin or something of that sort to communicate with if I went there solo. But really neat area, it’s a special place. Good luck to you! Oh and make sure you look up the regulations for kayaking in the swamp before you go.
@halfmoonflyfishing what do you think of the mangrove? Im trying to find a rod for bigger carp and bass. Also love my liquids. Have them on my signature 2 and lk legacy.
@@gregjr63 Admittedly, I don’t have much experience with enough brands to compare them to. That being said, I do think they are a better quality rod, and are significantly easier to have replaced. I’ve landed everything from sharks to bass on my 8wt and it has held up fine. I do recall a guide I was with once saying how much he enjoyed the mangroves when he first started thanks to its durability and reliability (if that helps you at all). And of course, you can’t beat a Lamson.
Thank you for filming your trip…..so cool!😃
Of course, thank you for watching!
Absolutely awesome video bud! Love the restored Ford and this trip with your dad. Also not to forget the sick fish you are catching.
Thanks man, it’s an awesome fishery that definitely gets overlooked by fly fisherman
i have loved every trip to the swamp and mixons! looks like y'all had a fine time!
Haven't done Mixons yet but I'm already planning a trip for next year. The Okefenokee Swamp is an incredibly underrated place.
Great experience, the Okefenokee Swamp, good time to spend with your dad. That’s cool. Those Chain Pickerel were nice fish.
Thanks for watching Timothy! We had talked about it for years but finally got around to going. It’s an awesome park to go to.
Hello! Cool gator sightings! That second one looked HUGE! My husband & I were born & raised in Waycross!

@@halfmoonflyfishing thanks! One more thing did y'all put in at Stephen Foster State Park?
@@Bamaoutdoors I believe so. Should be on the south western side of the swamp
What's your fly rod combo
I think at the time it was an Orvis 8wt Clearwater with a Lamson Liquid. The Lamson is still running strong, but I have a TFO Mangrove now.
