Mose & Cavalleria for Phillips. Two live : Attila & il Duca d'Alba. Two movies :Forza ,& Bellini's life with M Ronet ,A.Lualdi,N.Grey. And there she proved ...everything!!!! .Big voive ,perfectly placed ,great agility. What she's doing there, is enough to place her ,in the Pantheon of the greatest.the Imogene's mad scene is simply incomparable, along with her, Casta diva & Ah non credea. She was L.Borgia for La Scala on 1951 ,with Tagliavini ,& Petri. Unfortunately, for many singers of great value ,there was no Scala after '51 ,& she & Caniglia ,were obliged to move to San Carlo & the Rome Opera. Even Constantina Araujo ,couldn't repeat her already famous Aida there. Don't forget that Opera can be monstrously unfair. G.Prandl never sang in Bayreuth!!!!! & as the silvery voiced L.Welitsch said .... ..Not everybody can have a rich husband like Callas. Not only rich ,but being among the few industrials ,who have participated to the reconstruction of La Scala ,after the damages of the war. Cerquetti sang there her Abigaille only on 1-1958 , & Zeani only in the Di Steffano 's Hoffman. As you have the spirit of research ,let's hope that in the future we'll have Cerquetti 's Loreley , & Borkh-Nicolai's La Fiamma... 👍
You have forgotten to mention her accento, something is not mentioned anymore in italian opera. Together with her "metallo" her accento made her incredibly exciting.
Well,she was singing contralto parts,along sides sopranos sides? She had the movie from 1949. She is very good in the movie!! Is she that bad as. Leonora in. Forza in 1963? The scene and duet with padre. Guardiano,terrifies. Ponselle,who always was telling to herself,top!!top!!up!!up!! After that she could relax!!! Mancini is one of my favorites of all times. A truly dramatic soprano!!in voice and temperament.
Caniglia in the book. The last divas by. Raponi,speak bitterly about her departure from. L. Scalla. She is not to specific,but she used the word bitchery at. L. Scalla,what she really means,is the arrived after the war,of. Tebaldi first and. Callas later. Caniglia was very respected. She retired in 1959. But. Mancini case is more tragic and sad. She lost her high register in the late 50s. By 1963 she was singing as a contralto!!then she dessapeared forever. She died in poverty in 2004,when she was 80 years old. Most people today don't know who she was even in. Italy!!vergogna!!
Not only the women ,but some men,as well. Meneghini & Maria disliked Arrigo Pola so much ,after a Traviata (1951), and that had a very negative impact on the career of this excellent & very well prepared technically tenor.(Pavarotti has worked with him)
The story of Mancini is really a tragedy. Her Forza recording from 1963 as Leonora is actually great, but she has no high notes... her voice is otherwise completely intact, but the high notes (not only the high c) were lost...
