      I wonder if this could work with 4s setup as I fly 4s VTC6 pack... probably overkill or just lower the cruise throttle...

    In mission planner, I believe there is a hidden icon. if you can find it, you can switch vehicle types by clicking on the menu below the telemetry baud rate near the upper right hand of the screen. you have to hover just to the left of the menu, and it appears in some versions. Arduplane benifits a lot from having a real pitostatic tube and airspeed sensor. the I2C digital sensors work great. just have to configure, autocal in RTL, turn off autocal, then ARSPD_USE, to enable.

      You mean the one shown here? ua-cam.com/video/yUV8B-9c6d8/v-deo.html I'm unable to get that one to show up. I don't have the "dead space'" between the baud rate and connect button either. I'm guessing it was taken out some time along the way. So far I haven't found a way to change it. I'm using the current latest version of MP right now.

      @@bonafidepirate yes, that was the one.. would it help to load a param file saved on the hard drive first? one that's a plane? or connect to a plane, disconnect, then try?
      BTW, I just got a crossfire module working on a flysky controller.. 😂and arduplane.. complete system. was actually pretty easy. good since I hate Open tx and Edge TX. the fleshy menu... I can handle. I'm going to order one of the new controllers that has ELRS built in. I'll have to learn model setup for Edge tX.. but I'll get a friend to help and save the setup as a file, so I can reproduce it easily.. at least it sounds good on paper.
      I would like to make ELRS work on Flysky too, but not sure if its' possible. would be great to learn how to get ELRS to talk mavlink telemetry with Pixhawk at range.. and not need the telemetry radios. or just use OSD like you do. What is your fav. solution to overall system architecture?

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  Рік тому

      @@FPVREVIEWS I may be wrong, but I don't *think* ELRS does two-way telemetry. I've never used their stuff though, I'm saying that based on the notes here: ardupilot.org/plane/docs/common-tbs-rc.html#common-tbs-rc
      Personally, my favorite radio system to pair with Arduplane has been Dragonlink. I've never had any range issues for control or full Mavlink connection to the plane in flight.
      Do you have Mavlink working with Crossfire in the air? It worked fine for me on the ground and at short range in the air, but quickly dropped off with any distance at all (less than a mile) and wasn't very usable. To be fair though, I'm running the telemetry power at 25mW since my old pan servo didn't like any more than that... lol I'm sure you'd get more range with the Nano Pro RX if the telemetry power was bumped up higher. I'll try again some day, maybe.

    In quads I used to lower timing on lower kv setups to avoid mid throttle oscillation, and raise it on high kv setups to help with desyncs..... I bet you would gain 10%+ efficiency if you can you go up in pwm from stock 16 to 48 or 96khz, although you will probably notice less top end /vertical climb torque but for cruising should be great

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  Рік тому +1

      That's what I'm hoping for, to gain a little efficiency at the cost of some power for better cruising numbers. If it lets the motors run cooler that's great too! lol It could even be where some of that efficiency comes from, less wasted energy in heat. I'm not sure if we can adjust the PWM rate in standard blheli (not 32 bit). That's something I haven't played around with before.

      That quiet bit at the start is where I'm out launching the plane and getting back in to the PC that's recording, so I can start the narration... lol I guess I could maybe record a bit of audio explaining what's planned for the flight then insert that later.
      The crops did seem OK this year, although they went through a big dry period at the start of the season. They'll be cutting those soybeans here as soon as they dry up, which won't be long!

      I know right?! It's funny that vtx in there was the first thing I planned to change. I only installed it because I had it in my spare parts, and connected it up just so I could set things up while waiting on a new one to arrive. Once I flew it though, I see no reason to change it... lol I'll save the other one for a future project I guess.

    A nice waypoint flight. I'm easily pleased with a sunset aerial view. :)
    The efficiency is pretty good on this 3S stock build. Looks like could easily fly 30+ minutes using a 3000+ mAh li-ion pack. Trying to improving the efficiency beyond the stock setup would be interesting. Wondering what you thinking of trying with propellers? A good tease for tuning into a future video. ;)
    Also curious if the crossfire telemetry has been tested at further a bit distance? Seeing this flight was ~1.75 miles range at 4:00, 11:45. Nice you that the telemetry issues seem sorted out for the most part. (not perfect, but seems very usable, no dropouts)
    BTW: Was fascinating to see how the wind had varied at similar points along the two waypoint circuits, but the Ranger's flight parameters and tracking were almost identical. Shows how well this build/ardupilot are tuned in.

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  Рік тому +1

      Those nice sunsets are half the reason I fly! lol I actually had a good link with the current setup, tracking on the map all the way out to 4 miles when I flew to the river in the last flight. I'm guessing the standard CRSF telemetry uses a lot less bandwidth than trying to push Mavlink through. Someday I'll try Mavlink again with more telemetry power on the receiver, once I get the pan servo to cooperate with that. (or unplug it for the test... lol)

    Great videos mate. How do you rate the T1 Ranger compared to your Reptile Dragon v2? Thanks!

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  Рік тому +3

      I'd say they both fly quite well. The Dragon V2 being larger, can carry more battery and spread the electronics out better so you have less issues with everything being in a small fuselage, which opens up more options for what will work well in it. The Ranger is very easy to "build", or more accurately, assemble, and they're both certainly high quality kits. The Ranger breaks down rather quickly, and the parts are small. It wouldn't be hard to pack it in a backpack if you tried. The Dragon V2 breaks down pretty good too, but the parts are still larger. I guess it all depends on what you want. I do like both of them quite a bit though.

    • @bonafidepirate

      I set up the stats item on an OSD screen that I'm not using, then set that screen as my disarm screen, so the OSD switches to it when I disarm the plane. OSD_DSARM_SCR is the parameter to select the screen it switches to.

    Did you configure anything in blheli to make the motor ramp up and slow down slower like a normal fixed wing ESC?

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  Рік тому

      No, I only changed the motor timing from medium to medium-low. (which corresponds to 15º and 7.5º respectively, I think) I don't think there is any settings for ramp up time, at least not in the "multi" firmware that these come with.

      @@WinstonSmith1984 I think that's how much power is used to get the motor spinning, so it doesn't stutter and lose sync. I don't think it's the same as a slow ramp up of power like some ESCs have, especially helicopter ones. ua-cam.com/video/0Bi1XcdpnQI/v-deo.html
