@@redriot-unbreakable9476 Moruto is a "low-tier hero", like Itabashi or Kichipa with Zangief, that doesn't mean the characters are strong, but just as Brian says, anyone can smoke you with any character if they're good with theirs... then the thing is how much easier it is to win with a character, that is pretty much what does a tier-list, it's easier to beat pretty much anybody with Luke or Urien than with Zangief or Dan.
Congrats man! I've been getting into sfv to get ready for sf6. Just got to super silver. Honestly feels really good seeing yourself get better and beat better opponents and watch your rank rise as a result.
I think the biggest issue with tier lists in fairly balanced games is how experience-dependent tier lists are. If you are, say, a Platinum level player, the amount of whiff punishing and hit confirming going on is reduced considerably. Punishes in general are reduced because of limited matchup knowledge. That alone could dramatically change how powerful a character can be at that level of the game. A character like Kage might seem totally oppressive because his problems in neutral aren't properly checked, and it can be tough to recognize your turn due to the strange gaps in his strings. Basically, tiers do not matter at all until you reach a high enough level that the threat of proper punishes forces your opponent to take less risks, or you are good enough to take advantage of a high tier character to the point that they can actually exploit matchups across the board. Certainly there are games where a tier list does matter more outside of the tip top levels of competitive play. It would be brutal playing against a Ken or Chun in 3s as an inexperienced player because of just how scary something as simple as low-forward super confirms were. I felt that it was pretty clear in that game that certain characters had tools that would be extremely abusable at mid levels that would be hard for the rest of the cast to deal with. You could learn that confirm in a couple days and any other mid level player without that tool would struggle to counter someone doing nothing but that. Coming back to SFV after not playing since season 1, I've been so surprised with how elegantly most things that seem "cheap" initially are clearly and easily countered after a quick lab session. So many ways to win and cool little effective tools the cast has. A tier list might actually be a detriment to an average or even advanced player who would otherwise mesh with a "low-tier" character's play style or strengths. Sorry for the very long-winded version of "I agree with you" lol.
I disagree. The tier list definitely affects my Zangief. I'm literally stuck at Super Plat on him because anyone with a half brain can invade a lot of his attacks. He's just not scary. @@lot8113 dude fox literally has zero downside at top level, it becomes a game of who 8s the better player. Op is completely accurate in his assessment. Unless you think marth beats fox 💀
I've seen many people make the argument that Marth is better than Fox in Melee. It comes down to Fox having some really strong matchups, but also some poor ones, and Marth has many good matchups (including against Fox) and also literally no losing matchups. To me, Luke is more like Marth, in that he's got the tools to deal with all situations without relying on any one specific thing, and Fox is more like Ed, where he's got one AMAZING move (Shine/Flicker) that is very applicable and can swing things in his favor very easy, but isn't without situations he has a harder time dealing with.
Thanks for the effort! I'd like to know what the pressure difference between say Kage and Bison/Cammy would be. What type of risk justifies the tier placements?
I agree man I hope we see him come back. If he does come back though the question is will he still be G or will he be fully morphed into Q since this next game takes place after third strike
Removing invincibility from ex spd was so bad I stopped playing sf5. Season 5 was too late to learn a new character if u were a gief specialist. It’s such a hard thing to explain to people who don’t play gief. What made it unfair is that ex spd is not as good as ex dp, but ex dp remained in invincible. Ex dp got buffed with vshift because every character with an ex dp was given another escape option thus making ex dp more unpredictable. U see so many more ex dps now. U cannot be jabbed out of ex dp. Ex dp hits airborne opponents. Some characters can cancel their ex dp with vtrig activations. Ex spd invincibility only beats throw. It’s far less useful and is equally punished vs ex dp. If they had made ex spd crush counterable I would not have been so mad. Removing the throw invincibility was wayyy too far. Removing throw invincible spd killed his defense. Top 5 nerf in sf history.
Spot on with Birdie. He has way too many bad match ups to be a solo main guy. He has some of the best buttons to keep people out and play neutral, but there are way too many characters with get in free options. Once they're in, he is just playing rock paper scissors without the ability to choose scissors.
This makes a lot of sense from my years of experience being ass at the game, only thing is id put Abigail in S tier because i feel its hard to play against a character that’s half a screen big with super armor and a command grab
Glad to see the real ones recognise Falke, she's extremely underrated, considering how well rounded she is. Also Gill deserves to be a tier higher just for his theme being in the game. Shit slaps.
Say what you will about the top tiers and how oppressive they are imo, but the high tiers of SF5 saw massive development at the end of its life cycle which I find super interesting.
@@koi1856 Ryu really struggles to open people up for the big damage, especially the characters that scare him off of throwing fireballs. Kage has a lot of wild stuff he can throw at you (especially in VT) to get him that one big hit into CA that closes the round. I think that's the biggest difference, Kage has good wildcard factor to help him win othersie bad matchups. Ryu has to try to grind every friggen round with fireballs and pokes so your bad matchups are really bad.
Tier Lists don't matter, but is a good resource for new players like me to see a global perspective of characters from a experienced player =) so, thanks just picked sf5 on sale to practice for sf6, im more into 3d fg and there is so much new stuff to learn beside the chars, the seasons changes and the 2d basics mechanics (i finally know what is a meaty! :) )
Kinda wish they’d do a final pass and tone Luke’s damage down and restore Chun’s VS1 damage; I think she’s strong enough to put into S-tier but you won’t hear me complaining.
I think we should also make tier lists that go over time invested for reward gained and just flip the conventional tier lists. Where SSS tiers require the most time and F tiers require the least, and really fuck with people looking at these lists.
I could work around the VT2 nerf for Kolin, but nerfing her EX parabellum damage and stun was a step too far for me. She hits like a wet noodle now, even if you spend two bars, completely killing the fun factor. And then they nerfed her anti-air in a way that punishes Kolin for using it. It's like they don't want people to play this character. I understand fighting her is frustrating, I understand getting blown up by VT2 can feel cheap. What I don't understand is just deleting a major part of the character and not replacing it with anything. Now, she's a character that does low damage, struggles against fireball characters (ie half the cast), and has slow walkspeed. Sure she has strengths, but they end up getting cancelled out by these glaring flaws.
@@geniegoldroyalty7371 yeah, that's a fair point. Obviously, a huge part of that is kawano, he also won CPT Japan a few months before EVO, he's crazy good. It's as if they saw Kolin winning all these events and decided to nerf her based on those wins. But not all of us can be kawano and react to EX boom with super unfortunately. I wouldn't be so annoyed if they just gave her something to make life easier, like a vacuum effect on EX para so the combo doesn't drop, or a corner combo that isn't weaker than her midscreen combos. I swear she's the only character in the game whose combo game gets worse in the corner, instead of better.
As a current Nash main, and former Alex main, I can guaratee you that alex is not one "step" below nash. Alex has a lot of tools and some decent plus frames pressure and mix ups. Nash has basically no plus frame nor any kind of anti air (he has, but it is not much at all). It's a much tougher character to play with. Still, I insist in playing him bc a think I'm learning more with a tougher character, consistency, execution and reaction wise. Anyways, I know it is just a tier list with arguble placing, like any tier list, but just wanted to speak my frustations. Btw I am ultra silver hell D:

To me, Luke is more like Marth, in that he's got the tools to deal with all situations without relying on any one specific thing, and Fox is more like Ed, where he's got one AMAZING move (Shine/Flicker) that is very applicable and can swing things in his favor very easy, but isn't without situations he has a harder time dealing with.
yeah ok dude say that to my doc and see what happens
Alright Brian. I'm convinced you made this list insane on purpose to get us to comment so here's the comment you asked for.
I'm a Zeku main since the beginning and ending the game's support with him being a good character makes me happy.
The respect for Ken recently gives me joy
ye but being vtiggered 2 death from a 6 miles distance gives me sadness
@@lucky777seven5 skill issue
@@derpydoug5588 you play the ugliest character in the game. Congrats
Sf6 reminded ppl that ken is actually cool
Screw Ken
"This is trash, but I need YT engagement." I appreciate the honesty!
Thanks for the effort! I'd like to know what the pressure difference between say Kage and Bison/Cammy would be. What type of risk justifies the tier placements?
Glad to see my dude, Ed on top tier!
I simply cannot understand how tf Dhalsim is a zoning character and still has a insane rushdown and abigail's damage in this game.
G is the coolest character Capcom has ever added to SF imo. Would love to see him in SF6. Love seeing well made and interesting new characters.
He isn't completely new, though. He has a TON of Q's DNA. As far as totally new characters in SFV, honestly, kind of weak.
Definitely one of the coolest character designs, as well as how he plays in this patch is really interesting and fun
I agree man I hope we see him come back. If he does come back though the question is will he still be G or will he be fully morphed into Q since this next game takes place after third strike
Lmfao, I still remember the Sim main tears when V-Shift was announced. They insisted so hard that it would severely weaken him lol.
Fuckin finally brine, I've been waiting for this since the Kotaku article
The only tier list that matters is how hot and or cool a character is
Nice list man :)
2:28 ngl I highly agree. Might just be the presence of Luke but I legit completely forgot people thought Akuma as one of the best lol. Sorry
The game is dogshit tbh, corporate sony made Capcom desperate for money imo.
i feel the same about Birdie and his EX grab. shit hurts
Capcom giving akuma reverse steroids: *drops to high mid tier*
Akuma for SF6: *unlocks a new form to become un-nerfable*
Spot on with Birdie. He has way too many bad match ups to be a solo main guy. He has some of the best buttons to keep people out and play neutral, but there are way too many characters with get in free options. Once they're in, he is just playing rock paper scissors without the ability to choose scissors.
This makes a lot of sense from my years of experience being ass at the game, only thing is id put Abigail in S tier because i feel its hard to play against a character that’s half a screen big with super armor and a command grab
his size is a weakness 😅
He's a big body command grabber
Usually there size is actively there easiest flaw to exploit with how big they are
0:44
Word! Infiltration with Juri being a prime example.
Don't mind me, just passing by and commenting for channel support
I would really like to see your breakdown on a Match Up matrix, each character against each other.
Nobody got time for that
Glad to see the real ones recognise Falke, she's extremely underrated, considering how well rounded she is.
Also Gill deserves to be a tier higher just for his theme being in the game. Shit slaps.
I knew in time my Saikyō-ryū style would get some respect on its name. Thanks Brian F.
We never doubted you. we just laughed a lot is all.
Is it bad that this tier list made me want to main Lucia or Sakura just to be a dark horse that no one expects?
Brine always ****'s on Lucia. She's good and fun.
Damn brian explaining why ken is good made me realize why I hate fighting ken lmao.
"it did laundry, dishes and taxes"....I'll have to steal that one...
THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO, I NEED THIS TO WIN EVO THANK U
I don't play SFV anymore but it's sad to see my mains fall from grace... Even though Seth and Abigail absolutely had it coming
Good choice 😂
Say what you will about the top tiers and how oppressive they are imo, but the high tiers of SF5 saw massive development at the end of its life cycle which I find super interesting.
Balrog having a similar anti-meta presence to Melee Pikachu generates some hilarious mental images
I'm not here for the tier list, I'm here to listen to brian rapping for an hour.
Wow, I didn't know Dan is good in this game he is normally a low tier in every single SF game.
Amazing video.
I have a hard time believing Kage being below Ryu but other than that this is pretty accurate overall
Ryu has zoning, corner escape options, and better normals, in fact ryu beats kage all the way
@@koi1856 Ryu really struggles to open people up for the big damage, especially the characters that scare him off of throwing fireballs.
Tier Lists don't matter, but is a good resource for new players like me to see a global perspective of characters from a experienced player =) so, thanks
just picked sf5 on sale to practice for sf6, im more into 3d fg and there is so much new stuff to learn beside the chars, the seasons changes and the 2d basics mechanics (i finally know what is a meaty! :) )
I'm not much of a Gil fan, but his theme is absolute SSS tier
Dan not going in Dan tier is a huge twist.
Reason why Brian isn’t a warlord. We still love ya
Kinda wish they’d do a final pass and tone Luke’s damage down and restore Chun’s VS1 damage; I think she’s strong enough to put into S-tier but you won’t hear me complaining.
luke is so sick! completely agree man. hyped for sf 6!
She won EVO tho
@@abhishekvalsangkar well it's all good just wait till SF6 & root for Kawano this weekend!
I’m curious, who do you play in 6?
"Nash has no anti-air" please stop
@@Brian_F Oh come on, I'm a newbie. I really can't anti air with him, it's really tough for me. Alex's AAs are much easier. I have to train more tho, not gonna lie. His ex scythe is great to AA tho.
The chat comment at 58:54 is my thoughts exactly about Luke
KAGE is my main, and he has become my fave all time Street Fighter character... now I have a crisis with Street Fighter 6 with no Kage :(.... who do I play? Probably have to wait for Akuma :(
Do not wait. it's gonna take a while kkkkkk
fellow cody mains, we have downplayed enough...we have won.
I only got like 45 minutes in this game's single player but he spittin
I appreciate you doing this alphabetically.
yeah i agree of this list and as a honda main it not a road but can be done of his matchup chart they can be beat have be smart use less headbutt and use your pokes but light headbutt can punish some characters pokes like sagat mk luke cr mk alex mk and oro mp of the few but these very specific punishes and if you time it wrong oof. sadly birdie and kolin very well on honda it rough long range narmol.s to tough battle them ground game.
That was so honest with the menat ranking ❤, mad respect from us in menat gang 🫡
Gill aint good and neither am i but hes still the guy i prolly played the most overall. Getting random retribution hits and pickin up a combo is pure dopamine. Ofc rogs and stuff often made me feel like only 1 person gets to play lol
good to see Cory Barlog is top tier
The worldwide famous composer for God of War, Cody Balrog!? :O
Hey Brian, do you think you could do a tier list of how good you thought your previous tier lists were?
what is the xylophone jazz song at 4:34?
Kanzuki Beach stage music.
@@soggytoast111 thank you my man
I like to see Brian playing ED character tho since ED is fun and also so few ppl playing just like Oro
how long past christmas will brian's christmas tree be up? so far we're at 27 days
The difference at high and low level tiers of play is so funny. People never hit light buttons at low on the ladder, so I'll use ryu's v-skill 2 (-4 on block iirc) and i don't get punished. Then i lose to them anyway because I'm silver for a reason
