@@dorothybourbeau8304 The song isn't actually that techhnically complex, but I would suggest practicing stride piano techniques and playing scaling arpeggios because that's the most difficult part. Song is in C minor The Left hand follows a similar pattern of playing an octave as two eighth notes and then the rest of the notes in the chords (sometimes inverted), and it either goes up or down the C minor scale in that pat tern until it hits the V (G iminor in this case, the scaling arpeggios are in G major however) The second verse of the song shifts to F minor in the left hand while following a similar pattern. Basically what you need to focus most on is syncing up the left hand and right hand correctly as neither are that difficult to play on their own. Just take it slowly with a metronome and you should be able to nail it with enough practice sessions. I also reccomend listening to as many recordings and versions of the song as possible to give an innate feel for the rhythm and melody. Thank you for making me come back to piano, and to the passion I have since my childhood and which left me for a while. I've missed it so badly and didn't know when passion would knock at my door after her long long trip. She showed up with this music in her hands and now I want to play again. So thank you. And I'll never let anything, whatever it is, tear piano and I apart again.
Spent sooooo many hours learning this piece for an year! I’ve been playing the piano for over 7 years and this one was the best yet the hardest piece so far. Thanks to the artist who developed these wonderful notes. ❤❤❤
If I'm to work my way up to this by following things in the right order, when would I be about the right level to begin conquering this? Grade 5? Higher? Thanks for your advnce. I'm not in a rush, just dreaming...
Don't let anyone tell you that you can not learn this... have played for fifty years now and played many difficult pieces as a young girl. Desire and determination, patience can be your best tools. Will never understand why people are so quick to tell others anything is too hard. Difficult yes however most things that are worthwhile take a little effort. You may even develope your own version of this. Best of luck to you!
Well that's a very complex piece for a beginner because of the intricate rhythmic patterns and because the left hand moves about a lot, BUT, as someone else already pointed out, if there is enough determination anything is possible. Try to learn it very slowly and methodically be patient and don't get frustrated, it's a very big undertaking for a beginner. There is plenty of information on the internet about reading sheets ( you'll definitely need to search about triplets for this one, also the wavy vertical line indicates that instead of playing all the notes at the same time you play them in rapid succession ). Do not hesitate to ask questions. I wish you the best of luck.
If you take the time to try, I am CERTAIN you will be able to play this. This piece is definitely challenging technique-wise, but not out of the reach of an average-level pianist. It also has a quite repeating motif (especially in the left hand) so once you get the basis down it's pretty much a smooth ride from there
Does anyone have any advice on how to play the left hand pattern: the “chord” and then the swung octave? also how to integrate this smoothly in the right hand?
Omg, I decided to play this just at the first time I hear this!!!! I love it! It give me a image which is soo warm and sweet with all emotions in it! Amazing!

Daniel your playing of this sweet piece of composition of George Gershwin is perhaps the best amongst all I ever had a glimpse ....the tempo with gradual upward progression containing the syncopated rhythm to give it a full shape is excellent in my little knowledge.
In 1935, Gershwin composed the aria "Summertime" for the opera Porgy and Bess. Gershwin based this aria on the Ukrainian lullaby "Oh, Sleep Walks by the Windows," which he heard performed in New York in 1929 by the Ukrainian National Choir conducted by Oleksandr Koshyts.

I have no musical talent but if I could play anything it would be this piece. I think I must have listened to it about ten times on repeat. It’s a beautiful rendition. Thanks for sharing. ❤️
I was 9 when I wanted to play it, but it was difficult for me. Now I'm 12 and I've been teaching her for 3 months.I can play it completely in almost the same rhythm and from memory for Dad's birthday.I think this is a big breakthrough for me.

Summertime, Gershwin on Piano ! what an unusual, but delightful version of that so well known music ( often sang by Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald) . i also apreciate "amateur" versions that can be so near to the authentic piano score, slowly, quietly, so that we can hear each footsteps on home's stairs , so that we can observe each wing' s feather spreading !. Anyway, both of these renditions are welcome. In the original musical score we can hear the most important parts of this composition, the jazz one and the Klezmer style, so essential for Gershwin. That is his own, so intense so real,of course. Very respectable in this way of meaning, what a high musical expression, what a deep and sensitive early composition. Yes, to travel in those area means to cross through history of Europe and Russia ( his parent' s beginnings). St Petrsburg lives into that piece of music, towards his jazz actuality. Soul is full as much as it can be with Maurice Ravel, our national pianist in France. In spite of he met him successfuly a little bit later, Gershwin had early his own way so near to Ravel ! A brotherhood musical expression, i Think. Ravel told him " why would you have to become a second Ravel , since i tell you to become the first Gershwin ? ....here it is ! The "blues" is also living in Klezmer style, how would it be different, how could it be hidden? Such a ground state, a fundamental soul. "Jacob Gershowitz" was born in America, in 1898, he was absolutly opened to any musical style an arrangement, able to mix influences in a positive creation. Not so common ! Here is a genius, an affective genius, a friend that we would have loved to met, here is the rare bird ! There is a similar way of rendition with Zoltan Kodaly, who cared of the traditional customs in Hungary, precious values, so opened to an original story. Both of them have something to say, They do not compose for the "wind or smoky blues seemings". Gershwin is not a special guest of music, he is a great man of life, he is the gift, and did so much for every one, any history, . Christian Guignard from France.

ILikeChopin if you are a beginner then it is quite hard and of course take a lot of time, but try to play through the entire piece slowly before perfecting each parts respectively, you’ll know the piece thoroughly beforehand and thus make it easier and faster (at least in my opinion, I have tried this method)

this is the most beautiful piece of jazz piano music I have ever heard
I have no musical talent but if I could play anything it would be this piece. I think I must have listened to it about ten times on repeat. It’s a beautiful rendition. Thanks for sharing. ❤️
Это просто шедевр....так хочется её разбор....в упрощённом исполнении..это божественно....
Bravo!! what a most enjoyable listen! A great arrangement of this classic and very well played indeed!
What a precious gem! Very circumspect variation of Summertime, surely a brilliant thing.
I was 9 when I wanted to play it, but it was difficult for me. Now I'm 12 and I've been teaching her for 3 months.I can play it completely in almost the same rhythm and from memory for Dad's birthday.I think this is a big breakthrough for me.
Good work!
Ive been playing this for many years but on guitar, blues style, jazz style etc, its such a versatile tune to play
I was about to sleep when I decided to listen to one more piece. I heard this one. Now I am learning this piece and no longer can sleep. Tomorrow deprived of sleep me will curse you.
This is one of the most grand jazz pieces of the world!!!!!

Must be very delightful to have conversations with someone like you. Love reading your impression of this beautiful 'partition'.

I first clicked this video about a year ago. I knew I wanted to play it but was sure that I simply wasn’t good enough yet. Well, a month ago i printed the sheet music and worked on the piece religiously for an hour everyday. It wasn’t easy, but I finished it and actually play it quite nicely now. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you for sharing sheets
김수환 죄송한데 이 곡 악보 얻을수 있을까요? ㅜ ㅜ

Tiens c'est amusant, j'allais poster un commentaire de ce genre à l'instant
I’m learning how to play this interpretation, I love it. Can play by the sheets so far, learning by heart slowly. Cannot wait till I master it and enjoy in full. ❤️
Thank you for this video.
Did you manage to learn it by heart?
How long did it take to learn it completely? Great piece, with many rythms changes!
ILikeChopin if you are a beginner then it is quite hard and of course take a lot of time, but try to play through the entire piece slowly before perfecting each parts respectively, you’ll know the piece thoroughly beforehand and thus make it easier and faster (at least in my opinion, I have tried this method)
My piano student loves this piece! Thanks for sharing the PDF in your description.

Thanks for posting this awesome arrangement! I played this at a jazz-themed open mic night last week, and was accompanied by a trumpet player who happened to be there as well, it was such an amazing musical experience!

Целый день на повторе. Божественно!
summer is my favorite season. i can go back to my town, where ocean is. see how my grandma is doin. i can be lazy all day, have my meal and go to the beach in the afternoons because it is too hot to go out at noon. swim with my friends or siblings, eat ice crem back home. have a bath to get rid of the salt and sand. getting sleepy after it. laying under ac. . party sounds from nearby hotels at nights or the crickets all day long. i think i would not love summer that much if i didnt live besides the sea or if i wasnt a student and summer wasnt the only break.. love summer so muchX
literally, summertime, and the livin’s easy
Soul doesn't need to speak to understand our inner secret heart
