    Solarvox/Solavox Speaker Tear-Down...
    ...and some rather surprising revelations!
These cheapo, undesirable speakers use the exact same drivers found in the Dynaco A-45 (& ScanDyna A-45) range of speakers!
    Bass/midrange: SEAS 21 TV-EH (8"/20cm) with alnico magnet.
Tweeter: SEAS H-087 (1 1/2" dome) with alnico magnet.
    Yup, alnico magnets!
The Dynaco cabinet design is different, with vents instead of ports, & a slightly different speaker layout. The vents play an integral role in producing high sound quality from Dynaco enclosures. The vents aren't 'any old design', they form an aperiodic enclosure. In the simplest terms an aperiodic enclosure employs a damped port - in the case of the Dynacos, a piece of compressed fiberglass insulation covering a slotted port.
This reduces the impedance peak of the enclosure at its resonance and lowers the overall Q of the box, allowing 'better' bass from a smaller box.
Obviously this is one of the largest differences between the Solarvox speakers and the Dynaco speakers.
From my scant research I haven't been able to find a design for a Dynaco A-45 crossover.
Cabinet size appears same/similar in photos (but photos are a poor substitute for a tape measure).
It'd be so interesting to compare the Solarvox speakers to a pair of Dynaco A-45 speakers!
I wonder just how much of the Sola(r)vox speaker range has such hidden gems?

Interesting video! I've owned 4 pair of Dynaco A-25's since the early 1970's. In the context of the 70's, they were an excellent pair of speakers. I still have a nice pair and although serviceable, speaker technology has come a long way. They do have vents which is likely an improvement on the bottom end.

Yup, the slotted long thin stuffed vents in the Dynacos (& cabinet size, etc) play a huge role in producing improved sound quality. As for speaker technology improving, again, yup. I'm a fan of vintage Hi-Fi, but I'm also a fan of more modern stuff, and I think speaker technology in particular is an area where Hi-Fi has improved. There are some stellar speakers from the past, but there are a lot of duffers too.

Solarvox speakers... can anyone say 'Dynaco'?
