    I've been unapologetically binging on your videos this week (huz'b works evenings). And I'm lusting after your talent. I was a commercial artist in several fields of art all my life...practically. And I always considered pottery my "hobby". But now I have inherited a kiln, and a slab-roller, and a wheel. So, on with this next chapter, huh? There is something about the perfect belly of a coffee mug in your paws that is so comforting, right? Yours looks amazing! I am gathering up the motivation to delve into mugs. Might try slab first, but the wheel is def in my future. Thank you so much for all of the inspiration and instruction you give to us. Big hugs, cat

    Love your videos! I’ve just started extruding, and was told to wrap my clay in cling wrap. Wrap the cling wrap to cover the bum of the clay, leave the neck of the clay uncovered about 1 inch. The cling wrap scrunches up when as the clay empties…then you don’t even need to clean your barrel! I hope you understand what I mean. Lise 😊

    Sarah with the gun you roll your clay to fit the gun cylinder and roll the clay cylinder in the food film cling Wrap leave about a finger or 2 finger on the front of the clay cylinder with no cling wrap , on the back of the lay cylinder you just have twist the film to close, slide the cylinder on the barrel gun and and finish assembly your gun extruder and extrude you handles. When you finish just open the front of the gun and take the clay out , basic you don’t have to clean the gun and also you don’t have to take apart the gun, just the front os the gun, you don’t have to clean anything, works for wall extruder. I hope I make sense, English is not my first language. If you don’t get it let me know I can always get my daughter to write😜🤗

    Sarah, I just wanted to drop a few words of gratitude for your very informative videos. I am a PMC Artist that has recently decided to try out my skills on what l like to call the 'bigger clay'.😜 I am slowly getting to know this new form of clay, and having fun getting to know this new medium. A lot of the tools I already have in my studio are transferable to this bigger clay but there are a number of other tools you have mentioned and so kindly provided links for that I appreciate. Your links have made it so much easier for me to do my research. Glazing is a total grey area for me so all your videos on this topic, the demonstrations on applications, examples of combinations, including the fails have been a huge bank of information. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I am a fellow Canadian so your recommended sources is very helpful for me as well. (I live in the beautiful Fraser Valley of British Columbia -- Langley, BC - a suburb of Vancouver).
    PS. Your work and color combinations are absolutely lovely. My favorites are the Lusterous Jade under Dark Green with the Blue Rutile (Previous video) and the Red Wine with Autumn Purple; Purple Glaze etc. In your words, "Gorggggg!" For me they were "Awesome Sauce"!

    Thanks for an informative video Sarah. I am going to have to get my hand held extruder out of storage - I think it is the same one as yours. I remember having a lot of trouble with bubble blow outs and lines across the extruded pieces that would crack right across. Practice I guess.

    • @SarahWaltonPottery
      @SarahWaltonPottery  5 місяців тому +1

      Hi Jane! I make sooo many things with my extruder, and yes the blow outs are a pain, try plugging them like i did..it works and I don't have defects... make sure that the clay doesn't lay on the table while you are extruding as that seems to give the lines, having it hang (tho a workout) really helps prevent that issue..the blowouts not so much, that's why i do it over the table so that if it falls i won't fall on the floor...et me know if you have any success 🥰

      @SarahWaltonPottery  5 місяців тому +2

      Hi Nat! THANK YOU!! it means so much to me that you enjoyed it!! I dry all my pots SLLLLLOOOOWWWLY. When I first attach my handles I will cover them with a plastic sheet or shower caps (I get them at the dollar store and they are great for covering up your pots) for a couple of days so that they are in there own little atmosphere and the components really marry. This works for me. If the pot is on the dryer side I will mist my pot the first day so that the whole pot is moist but not wet. I carefully lean my mugs on their handles with corks to prop them and that keeps them really snug while they dry. Hope that makes sense🤪 Cheers!!🥰

      @SarahWaltonPottery  5 місяців тому +3

      Oh yes its so nice to throw with! You can soften up your clay tho...I do it all the time with some older boxes. Get a large bucket that is deeper then a bag of your clay. add a half cup of water into the bag, make sure it runs down all sides, and seal it up. then fill the bucket with water to cover the top of the clay in the bag, this will act like a vacuum and push the water tight to the bag, leave it overnight and it should be nice to throw with again.

      Honestly Tonie, I don't know the grams..it's a strange thing in Canada, a lot of us use a combination of metric and imperial systems. I understand heights, weights etc in pounds, feet and inches. Yet speed and distance I use kilometres...I will try and remember to look it up when I speak to weights etc, but I can't promise that will always remember 😬 I did a quick google search and 1½ pounds = 680.39g.
