Two Kevin videos in two days?? We’re getting spoiled! 😄 I love hearing you break down scores- you’re so knowledgeable about theory, but you talk about it in such an accessible and entertaining way!
@@KevinLynchMusic Would you have any interest in breaking down one of the scores from “Parade” (like “It’s Hard to Speak My Heart” or “This Is Not Over Yet”)? I love that musical and would be so interested to hear what you have to say about it, but no worries if you don’t have an interest in that!
Kevin I'm really enjoying this new series. As proof I'm also very partial to music videos that show the score underneath the performer's singing. The way you are utilizing the score is awesome. It's like being back in my high school music theory class combined with music literature. Get the break down of the music along with history of the show's development.
i had been listening to other y.t. vids of various Maria clips. so this is really really a wonderful way to deepen that enjoyment for me, i'm not musically literate and this is so enlightening thank you - hope to see more!
Definitely more of this series please! I'm getting in to MD'ing (amateur only lol) and it's so helpful to hear you talk through scores like this, as it really gets me used to breaking things down and thinking it through in more detail! (It's also really gratifying the few times I think something then hear you mention something similar in the video)
I love these videos. And thank you for analyzing Maria- it's one of my favorite Broadway songs, simplicity in all, and it was lovely to see it broken down!
Bernstein did write some lyrics. Originally a lot but Sondheim were better and his replaced many Bernstein lyrics but some do persist. This source from an interview with Sondheim on UA-cam. Sondheim wanted to compose but Bernstein was the main composer, however they discussed musical direction and Sondheim, a good composer in his own right, did get some suggestions in as well on chord directions and types to suit lyrics. Short story, Bernstein most of the music, Sondheim most of the lyrics. Great team. Worked some days in Bernstein apartment, some days over the phone.
Yes, please keep doing "Breaking down the score", I absolutely love all of them.
Same!!
3:33 Always loved how the violins play the 6th when it goes back to the root
