I think the video is about being sold a perfect image, the man in the video is infatuated with the toothpaste girl, but he can never have her, but everyone keeps pretending to be her. It's like the final scene, the old woman takes a bite but it falls off and gets spoiled. That's what taste of perfect is like.

@@kamilziemian995 Perhaps, that is to do with the presentation of normal we give to people being just a false perfect - what we want to be - when we instead are in actual fact a vulnerable human being with desires and insecurities displayed in the movie.
The candy apple is also itself a symbol in my eyes to some extent, a sweet shining - inviting coating. (Bad for you but is desirable) and the apple underneath is something mundane, essential. It is more complex (seeds, stalk, skin, bitterness, ripeness) than the simple sweetness of the toffee.
It is good for you unless in this example it is rotten. The perfect veneer we display to people often just papers over our problems/personalities but it can't hide forever, at some point someone takes a bite and we must confront our inadequacies/parts we do not desire.
Though I guess that depends on your relationship wih Apples, I don't actually eat them so I find it hard to know the universality of that microcosm interpretation

@@gatito8278 the song was inspired by the story of his mom and a former boyfriend she had. They loved each other very much, but he was poor and she moved out for college and they lost contact. So after a while he walked miles just to see her, but when he arrived her roommate told him that she had met someone else. Years passed by, he's rich and they're dating again, I think.

The music video definitely indirectly influenced me to feel compassion for the protagonist character that the musician is playing regardless of what contributed to the outcome between him and the muse who epitomizes the love interest in this very rousing music video, especially since the video obviously shows him needing more time to heal from missing her.

Barns has this weird thing about his music, it just transfers me to another time and place. Even when things are really complicated, his music makes it all seem so simple, and when I have problems it just assures me that i will find a solution. It gives my mind a much needed rest yet I'm invested and it's entertaining. I can't help but be in love with that feeling.
