A lot of parents would not necessarily want their kids to work if they had to work harder at school. Brandon was a bit academically more inclined LOL where is Brenda struggled a little bit more. But don't worry the parents definitely played favoritism back and forth in different ways like they didn't seem to give a girl was sleeping in Brandon's room but when they realized Brenda had had sex with Dylan they lectured her and scolded her. The only time they did that with Brandon was when he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Which I do not remember if Brenda ever used any of that but I don't think she had so they never got the chance to yell at her about that. Also Brandon had a job and owned a car but Brenda did not own a car and did not have a job so it makes sense
