I do volunteer animal rescue and I have a van that I use just for rescue. This tip I found by accident. I went to an estate sale as I was on my way to the vet to pick up some kittens. I got to talking to the person (Family member of the deceased) and they said they would love to be able to just get rid of almost all of the items in the house as none of the non-profits he contacted were interested. I told him I would take everything in the house. I came back and emptied out the house in three trips.
Now I go to estate sales and ask them if they need someone to take whatever is left at the end of the sale. I now have over one thousand FREE items still to sell and I have made over $4,000 with NO inventory cost.
Of course, you need a van or you could even rent a U-haul if you get everything free. I have done this four times now in the past 6 weeks.
A couple tips came to mind after I went to bed. I should mention I've been selling on ebay for like twenty years. Have a second printer, if a shipping label jams up then just switch printers and print it again. You can clear the jam later. Keep the funds in a separate bank account (credit unions have lower fees) from your household finances. When you have enough to cover expenses then you can "pay" yourself by transferring the money. And you will need to keep reinvesting in the business, like a computer instead of a phone and a good camera, and lights and.... One last tip that no one else will tell you. Eventually we will all get old enough to want to retire. Everyone should have a Roth IRA and be putting in the maximum every year. With a Roth the money goes in after taxes and there is no tax when you take the money out, after age 59.5. If you start early they can really grow. Lots of videos about them. don't rely on Social Security as the sole income for your older years. There is probably a financial person at the credit union who can set you up. If I was only going to give one tip, the Roth IRA would be it.
Your the second reseller to mention getting a backup printer. This must be imperative! @dailyrefinement mentioned this in one of his videos I watched last week. Thank you!
Did you start your Roth with a credit union?
Thank you
Thanks for the Roth tip. My brother in-law has been telling me to get one for the past 3 years. I really need to do it cause my extra money is doing nothing just sitting in my checking account. 👊🏻✌🏻
Back up ink carts too... I always forget lol... 16 years on the bay
I have a friend who has been selling on eBay for about 8 years.
He told me that he was able to boost his good reviews by sending a free gift with all of his items. He told me that his customers really loved this. He looks for things at garage sales and was able to score on a box of twelve scented candles for $5. These made great "thank you for your order" gifts. He finds other items at the dollar store, and once he found a box full of little eyeglass repair/cleaning kits, that also made great thank you gifts.
Good luck to all of you!
I have to disagree with the first one for some occassions. I was served at a thrift store that I love with a variety of plush toys (that I primarily sell), the cashier was very generous with the pricing and nothing I bought was over $1 (it was one of those stores that don't have fixed prices). I told him that I was a reseller of plush toys when he asked what I was going to do with them. He mocked me when he thought I left the store.
I went back a few weeks ago and he was the server again. He recognized me as I approached the counter with a small bag of plush, "You're the one that sells them, aren't you?" He then went through the bag I filled to price the toys. All of a sudden, nothing was under $3! He even tried to charge $8 for a plush horse. This wasn't a necessary price hike as I went to the same place with a different server a week prior and got a large dog plush for $2, this was always the maximum for plush. He was trying to suck as much money out of me as possible all because I disclosed that I was a reseller.
I never intend on going to that store on Wednesdays again, or telling thrift stores on what I do with what I buy.
What a pig :(
Agree 100% and I have been reselling since 2001! Only share that information with people you know and can trust.
You are exactly right! There is an old adage...'loose lips, sink ships!' 💯👍
One of my favorite ways to increase feedback on ebay that I didnt hear mentioned - when it's time for me to make room for new items, before I start donating back to the thrift store I put everything on a 7 day auction starting at $.99 with shipping and sell some of it off that way. If you were going to get rid of it anyway, why not just take the chance of selling it for cheap and then use the strategies everyone else mentioned to solicit feedback on those items too. I hope thats helpful...Thanks for sharing all of the fantastic tips everyone! This was a great video!
This is a great tip, especially considering that no one really talked about auctions in this video. I personally don’t have a lot of luck with auctions but you’re right - it’s a good way to get rid of stale items you’re planning on donating back anyway!
When I first started, I used to send a message to each buyer with the tracking number and letting them know I hoped they'd be happy, but to contact me if they were disappointed. I added, if you are happy please leave positive feedback if they were happy. It was all a cut and paste thing so took very little time.
Really Great idea...going to start doing that on some of our old listings. Best to turn i them into cash
If you are going to sell “dead” inventory -you want to sell it below your tax rate. Otherwise -if you are a bona fide business -donating it under your business name will get you a tax write off for a higher value. #youranswersarehere
@@youranswersarehere2386 I'm just getting my Ebay store set up and need to get educated about taxes yet. Can you please elaborate on "you want to sell it below your tax rate".
My tip: as early as you can, get your workspace flow setup. Your listing space, scale & printer, and your packing space. If any part of selling is a hassle or cumbersome, you won’t enjoy it and you’ll be wasting time on top of it.
The tip that spoke to me was about the global shipping. I only sell domestic because I didn't want to figure out shipping to other countries. Now that I know Ebay handles it, I am excited to start offering sales globally
I live in Hawaii so whenever I get a repeat customer or a cool one, I send them a postcard from Maui. Welcoming them and inviting them to follow my store. Ive received sooo much GREAT feedback just for doing this. Only costs me $.40 a card. Another thing is to just BE NICE!
Ooooh I’d love that!
I hope you and yours are safe after the recent fire , y’all have been on my mind everyday since 💝 with love from SC!
When I switched from a casual seller to a business, one tip I wish someone told me was to not feel obligated to buy an item at every store/yard sale etc that you go to just to get inventory. In the beginning of my business I would search and search and search for something to buy at a sale or store because I felt if I didn't, I wasted my time. So I'd buy something that had very little profit in it just to fell like I didn't waste my time and had something to list. In the end it was a waste of time AND money just to keep digging and digging to find something. It's okay to spend a hour in a thrift store and not find anything an walk out and move on. So in short, don't buy items just to have inventory. And don't buy items just because you're there.
Great advice thank you I went through this the other day at Goodwill just searching for good items when they were limited. I eventually moved on but nice to see the advice!
I agree
You have to know what to buy what will sell for profit, you just don't buy something just to list it and it won't sell, you have to have an eye for the latest trends and brands that will sell, you don't have an eye than what's the point of selling you're just wasting money and not selling and not making profit
I have watched many videos from Mike the Golden State Flipper, as I am new and just learning, and he OFTEN says...."Don't just buy to BUY!!" Seems to be quite a good tip.
dude, i need inventory though. small profits whatever. rather have small profits than none
I can’t imagine the work you had to do it out this together. Thank you again for including me. I really appreciate it
Thank YOU for being a part of it!
Thanks for contributing your tip on saving tape! Just ordered! ❤️
Are the custom labels only supposed to be used for international shipping? I went to get some and it appeared they are meant for international shipping only.
@@annapeterson4089 I’ve been using them for about 2 years and mostly domestic shipping. It was even given to me by an employee when I need to print a label at the post office. Been using them since.
@@robynfoley622 Me too....just ordered 5 packs of 10 of those custom form envelopes!!
If you are ending a listing and then Sell Similar, make sure that you alter the title and a description. eBay will treat it as an new item. Some how they can tell if the item is actual new or just a relist.
I recently invested in some clear poly envelopes to package clothing in at shipping time. Buyers have been blown away from receiving their item nicely professionally packaged as opposed to just being shoved into a ho hum ordinary poly mailer or flat rate envelope. Sometimes its the little things that are truly appreciated.
I do that for similar reasons PLUS bugs...Not so much getting into the clothing, but containing an item which you bought WITH bugs. The first time this happened I was shopping for zip bags. Not a common problem the bugs but anybody who has ever heard about bed bugs can confirm its no fun.
Could you show me how you’ve been shipping things?
It would help a lot 🙏
That’s a great idea…I’ve been just using plastic grocery/shop bags over tissue in poly mailers. It will be great in wet weather too!
I once read a comment that said “I would never again buy from someone who didn’t first put their item in a plastic bag before continuing to package it!” I have Never forgotten that. I sell hard-goods not clothing, but every item I have gets put into a clear bread bag or larger size if needed and then I continue with bubble wrap etc. It just feels like I’ve given it more care that way and presentation is everything. BTW, Most of the feedback comments I get is regarding the great way I package my items.
If I had a tip it would be this, "Don't be afraid to think big." Far too often we put limits on ourselves based on what we think is possible. When, in reality, we are capable of so much more than what we first believe. If you look at the resellers that are doing the most, it's almost always because they believed that they could. Super video. Just a super video.
To Scott from ChaChingKing - I have recently found you and become an instant fan. Watched a couple of your videos just today. Thank you a million for ALL of your valuable tips. I had heard you say this tip you are including here, and was SO glad to hear that, as I had recently decided to adopt that frame of thinking based on what a few experienced people were either saying or doing. I want to BE BRAVE. It's really sort of like the saying - Go big or go home. hah!! I think I shall do exactly that. Wish me luck!
@@Placeseveryone I also just watched ChaChingKing this morning and heard the same comment!!
My biggest tip is don’t compare your sales/numbers to others!! There are sooo many factors involved and it’s easy to get down on yourself for not meeting others totals!
This tip times 1000. Thank you for sharing. It this so easy to start feeling inferior when you start comparing yourself to someone else, which is silly considering their every circumstance is probably so different from yours. Thank you for sharing your wisdom!
I love this tip too. People can get so caught up trying to catch up to others. Focus on the numbers that’s making sense for you
Si true!!
This was great! Thank you for putting it together so well. You gained a new subscriber!
My tip: Take pride in what you do. It will pay off with repeat customers & positive feedback. The things my customers comment on the most are: Fast Shipping, Personal note included, and special or careful packaging. I use festive wrapping paper especially around the holidays. It's a big hit. Thanks to everyone for the awesome tips.
Interesting. I dont think anyone has ever mentioned my notes. Honestly just stopped doing it
Never thought about that. Going to start adding personal notes as well
I ran out of packing paper that I use for filler in the boxes and started using up my unused rolls of Christmas wrapping paper, lol. I sell a lot of vintage Christmas ornaments so it might be something I’ll do every year.
Oh. My. Word. I’m new. I’ve watched a million videos as I explore this “part time lucrative hobby” that makes me happy! THIS IS THE BEST ONE YET. I put two of the tips to the test yesterday, 1) ended listing / relisted… sold for $6 more than I originally listed! 2) told a friend what I’m doing… I get to go to a private sale of a fairly wealthy family whose estate is being liquidated tomorrow.. no estate sale fees! Thank you… thank you… your videos are my motivation to keep plugging along. And, thank you to all your contributors. Many I already follow and some I’ll add to my list! Blessings to you fellow educator!
Amazing tips! Thanks for including us :) great video for the community! 🤜🏻🤛🏻

Great Advice 😁 @ralliroots
Hi Becky! This is a phenomenal video! I'm into my 3rd year of reselling and I just quit my job to focus on sales full time! Channels like yours so helpful! Thanks for everything and I just wanted to add my own personal tip. Everyday make sure you list something new. List, list list and list some more!!! The more I list, the more I sell! Thanks!
The tip about shipping quick would be my #1 as well along with Mountain Man Treasures. It makes such a big difference in buyer experience. How fast you ship almost seems to matter more than the item you sent a lot of times lol.
Agree…I have 3 day shipping but get it out on that day (if sold by 3 pm) or next day.
Unfortunately, due to Covid, FedEx only ship once a week from our location.
Becky you are a workhorse! On your first day back from vacation you drop this bomb of a video. Wow. The reselling community appreciates you! -Dave & Laurie
I have no chill. Lol
Hi, how do I bulk edit my items? I can't seem to find the seller hub.
Since I've been re-selling over 4 years now, I knew most of the tips. The one tip that was new to me was the free label holder for boxes that you can order from usps. I will have to check into that. I have ordered many usps supplies and use padded flat envelope the most.
I agree! The hardest thing for me at first was to walk out of a thrift store with nothing.
Customs envelopes should only be used when shipping a package internationally for the required Customs Documents that need to be outside of the parcel. This is very clear on the USPS website!
Using the custom sku for inventory is great. I also put in how much I paid for the item. It makes it that much easier to input the number in a spread sheet to track the cost of the item for myself and taxes. Otherwise I would be taking too much time trying to track down the information later on.
That's a great idea too, putting how much you paid. I'm gonna have to start doing that. Thanks!
Thanks Dontae, just ordered those custom form envelopes!! Thanks for showing me how to save money on shipping tape!!
Me, too! Thank you, Dontae! (and everyone in this video :)
@@stphns1737 Can these be used if it isn't international shipping?
@@levintageteacups7533 They are confused. They are using these envelopes incorrectly; the USPS would NOT be pleased. The clear "envelopes/packets" are for including CUSTOMS FORMS used in international shipping. The Customs agent can read the documents that the shipper included so the items can clear Customs. That is their sole use - NOT to save tape.
@@ericmortimer5799 Thank you for your answer. i wont be using the USPS ones. I ordered some on amazon that will work. I wouldn't want to do anything that is against the USPS rules.
I have been selling on ebay since 1999 and it has changed so much in many ways over the years, both good and bad. Dominic Carone is also an awesome ebay seller and UA-camr with a great channel. He also runs a very good group on Facebook called Reselling Resource Center for eBay, Etsy, Amazon FBA, Poshmark and More. It is an excellent group with very supportive and kind members. This was a very good video! You are never too experienced to learn new tips!
Love the tips. Mine is before redonating put the items in lots, and start the auction at the minimum you would like to get. Heck, you could start it off at 99 cents. Make sure you have the buyer paying for shipping. Lots can be junk drawer lot, junk journal lot, toy lot, bottom of toy box lot, jewelry loy, jewelry repair lot, craft lot, game pieces, and etc.
Started reselling this month sold $1900 so far, but mostly my good stuff. Been obsessed with reselling videos. THIS video is among the best I have seen. So much good stuff, thanks for doing this!!!
MY TIP FOR EVERYONE -- steam your clothing before shipping with a good steamer -pack with a tissue - use the leftover label paper (if you dont use a dymo) for a thank you note... no matter what the cost of the item!!!! you should get good feedback ))) the steamer gets any smells out and the horrible wrinkles
Thank you. Never thought about the left over label paper. What a cool idea. 😎
@@lifeofmim )) Yes as well, I bought these cheap decorative scissors that I used after I fold the paper in half so the bottom of the paper looks a little pretty!!!
Which steamer do you recommend for steaming the clothing?
Hi Jah Jah which steamer do you use?
@@Marlene7388 Hi Marlene- I bought a rowenta 360 and have no issues -its amazing .)))))) sorry for the delay
Thanks so much for putting this together, Becky. What a great group of people!! I'm definitely on my way to subscribing to a number of them.
Dantae's tip blew me away! I still don't have a thermal printer, so what a great money and time saver for me. Sadly, the PO will probably catch on soon and start marking the envelopes, but until they do....
Thanks everyone. It was great hearing from you all!
Haha Dontae was like “I don’t know if this is a super helpful tip” when in fact SO many people are like “THIS TIP IS AMAZING!” I’m glad you found this helpful :)
I am a reseller from California, and I find that using the regional A and B boxes from the USPS saves a lot of money if your item fits those boxes, and the weight is over 2# for the A box and over 5# for the B box. Depending on where you are shipping from and where the buyer is located, you may not save a whole lots of money, but it's a good idea to compare the price vs shipping regular priority by weight/distance. You may be surprised!
How do you know which are a and b I have small medium and large but forgive my blond moment but I cant seem to see a or b?
My Office Depot gives out the regular usps shipping boxes but also the fed ex boxes. The fed ex boxes don’t have the stamping inside so they can be flipped inside out and used as a box for any type of shipping!
I saw that the priority boxes used work this way but now they’ve got priority stamped inside so it can’t be done.
@@Iseeciicii if people used/abused the free usps boxes like that, usps may decide to not make them free anymore. S am glad they stamped the insides.
When you use the “sell one like this” make sure you review everything they have in their listing. As you will need to put your info in the description…very important
One of my favorite UA-cam videos of all time! Thanks for compiling this Becky. So many of my favorite resellers in one video and as a bonus I learned a few new faces too! Great stuff.
Wow, thank you!
I actually include handwritten thank you notes. I know everyone doesn't have time to do this. I try to mail out the same day. I'm on Ebay and Mercari. Poshmark is a bit too much time consuming for me. I also leave feedback when I print labels. Thanks for this video and all the tips.
Wow, that's super thoughtful! Love that. Thanks so much for watching :)
I did that too - people really appreciate it! :)
My tip is communication is key. When my shipments were going to be late, i emailed my customers and told them the shipments would be sent late due to me being in the hospital and i gave them the option to cancel/refund or if they were ok waiting. My customers were fine waiting and really appreciated the communication.😊
Thanks for the great video!
Another general tip (that is part of some other tips) is providing great customer service. Doing a little extra goes a long way. For example, check your sales and if a sold item doesn't say delivered on the day expected, message the buyer, see if they received the item. I often say I will keep an eye on the tracking (which I do). This shows them you're still invested with their buying experience even after shipping. This will definitely lead to more feedback as well 👍🏻
Such a great video Becky! I feel like you really brought the reseller community together to give us great tips. Thank you!!
awww thank you! Yes - this community is amazing!!!
Rule number one coming from a long time eBay seller you have more than you realize in your house..you don’t even need to go looking for a product at first start selling stuff thats already in your house the average person has about five to $6000 worth of merchandise they could get rid of nowadays in their house…. Don’t get too overwhelmed with buying too much stuff just be consistently listing constantly daily. I still love the thrill of Q4 sales and finding that unique item that someone is looking for across the country from you and eBay is so amazing. It helped me during one of the worst times of my life to make a full-time income for my family as a single mom!!
Thank you for the tip, and how cool that you made a full-time income selling on eBay!
A tip I never see mentioned in any videos like this is for people without a thermal printer. Utilize the QR code labels. Ebay will send you a QR code via email that you scan at your post office, the post office will then print a thermal label for you (which looks professional and nice) for free.
But how long does that take to save the qr to a folder and if you have 10 things to ship what do you do just have the post office scan each one of your codes? Seems like it's not as efficient for anyone. Just a thought. I'm deffinitly interested in being wrong. ???
@@ocpdvirgo I wouldn't save it to a folder, eBay sends the QR to your email as well as information on the item that the qr code is attached too. For multiple items I write the last name on the package usually. I would try it out with one item before doing multiple though! Hope this helps
my small PO is always understaffed and I do not think they'd appreciate the extra work.
I like to leave feedback once the item is in my buyer's hands. I check the shipping status of my items regularly and when I see one marked as Delivered, I know my buyer has received the item and now that they have it in their possession, that's when I leave feedback thanking them for their business. I feel like if I provide feedback before they've received the item, then they're not going to be as incentivized to leave me feedback because they don't even have their item yet, so how are they going to judge whether or not to give you positive feedback?
We just opened our ebay account and listed 5 really different kinds of items. We got offers on all 5 within hours. We accepted the offers and the item "sold". We noticed that all the buyers were new accounts, also with 0 feedbacks. What a disappointment it was that none of those sold items were followed up with payments, so we had to cancel all of them and relist (or not-some of them we pulled so we could also try to sell them on Mercari). Finally one item we listed was sold, she paid immediately and it was sent out today!! I gave her a great big THANK YOU. The best tip I got from your video was to go ahead and give her good feedback NOW. So, heading over to do that now. Thank you all for your great tips.
ALL STAR CAST!!! What an amazingly helpful video! 🙌 🙌
Glad you liked it!!
I just want to say I really enjoyed watching all the people from the resell community give their tips/opinions. I'm new to the game. And it was awesome to witness everyone being so willing to help us newbies or just help other in general. Becky please do more vids like this!
So many gems were dropped in this video. Thanks Becky - I'm a seasoned ebay reseller as the Hoogs pointed out always keep learning.
I’m only in my second month on eBay, this was so helpful! Despite all my previous experience in business, art, design, thrifting, antiquing, art history and IT studies, eBay is a world unto itself and it’s own new labyrinth to navigate with SO much to learn to sell. I don’t have a store yet, just listings as The Classic Nymph, but learning, building everyday thanks to such a wonderful knowledgeable sharing community . That’s something I’ve noticed differentiates selling on eBay from other professions, the sharing and support from other eBay experts is amazing!

Oh, this is such a great video. Thank you for putting it together.
Wow Becky, thank you so much for this! I loved feeling like I was meeting the community of re-sellers :) I have been really hesitant to sell on ebay (even though I've had an active account for over 16 years!) due to a snafu a few months ago with their app and a buyer returning etc. I need to kiss the fear goodbye and look forward to sales! (Currently I only sell on Posh which seems like I need to deeply discount/their fees are just so high!) I didn't know you could have an ebay store! I appreciated all this insight so much. Thanks again! Love your videos
Tae! Dude. That's an awesome tip about using the customs form thingys. Thank you and thanks to you, Becky, for making this video. You're awesome.
THANK YOU ❤

Great video and I definitely learned A LOT! Some tips I already knew about, but I never thought of the ending a listing and selling similar. Thanks so much for all these tips and all the resellers that contributed tips.
Thanks a lot for this video. Really getting so much valuable content from it.

I love that you had such a variety of resellers that I have never heard of. Now I can go to their channels & sub. Will also check out their Closets & stores. Tons of info! Thank you Becky for taking the time to do this!! ❤️❤️ 👏 👏

Great information! Thank you all!
Love this! Thanks for organizing. So cool - look at you, girl!! 🤩
Thank you!! 😊
Great video, with wonderful hints. One tip I use is really do what you like! I was told there is no money in shoes!! (He didn't like to clean them!) I enjoy the transformation of dirty to shining in great profitable shoes. I can watch youtube, relax and recycle old shoes into new, wanted pairs.
Definitely money in shoes!
I love cleaning shoes too. It always bothers me when I see dirty shoes from resellers. You more money by cleaning it so I don’t understand why more people don’t do it.
Most of my sales are from shoes. Degreaser removes just about everything!
I really appreciate the time and energy you put into creating this video! It is packed with such valuable information, especially for a newbie like me.
Dontae’s shipping label tip was great. I’m ordering those! 😊
Every single tip spectacularly valuable. Thank you Becky and all contributors
