It's your water man. I have been using this machine for 2 years. Have not descaled it even once and have zero calcium deposits. I wash the tank once a week with soap. And probably go through 4-5 refills a day.
The problem I have with this machine is that the dirty water tank has a terrible smell! I called the company and they said "it must be minerals/ chemicals that are breaking down as it gets filtered " but it smells super chemically. Would love your thoughts on this. Additionally, there's a mildewy smell in the two holes where the tap water tank sits (and they are also wet all the time which can cause mold buildup underneath the tap water tank). I've been spraying the holes with peroxide but honestly it still smells like mildew under the tap water tank. This product is really disappointing- smells, mold.. build up like you said.
OK so we all know that you don’t wait for five months to clean this unless you’re wanting us to be impressed with the machine which I already was but no I wash and clean and I don’t have to use a scrubby every two weeks that’s what they tell you the calcium buildup is of course bad for you, so I’ve had my system for two years now maybe three and mine doesn’t look like that. The only thing that I can’t find is how often do you change the filters according to the company not to a person, and I want to know what the company says
I agree on cleaning more often depending on your cities water supply. Issue is not filters replacing as it should be good for over 6 months. I think cleaning is needed more often but with stronger solutions for sure. Thank you for watching
Hi Joyce, did you find out when to change the filter? I found it on a UA-cam video, but the system also tells you. It shows 4 different numbers on the front of the machine, when it shows (and doesn't go away) that's the filter number that needs to be changed.
Good review. I like the machine overall but like say it can be improved. Also if you have more than two heavy water drinkers in the house you'll keep running out of water and waiting for it to fill up again.
Im considering one of these or one of the units similar to under sink ro but sets on the counter and has a hose that runs to the faucet. Can't figure out which is actually better. Im leaning to the faucet connection as then no tanks to fill and they are only like $150.
Under sink takes less counter room but takes room under the sink. I've heard the under sink ones are better filtration due to size etc. Both are good choices though
Do you know what I should go ahead and call them up and say why don't you just make all your tanks glass both tanks then that would solve the problem with the scaling. This plastic crap is for the birds
Glass won't fix the problem of scaling. Ever see a glass shower door with hand water? Unless you pre-filter out the minerals, you'll probably have to replace your filters a lot more, especially the first one.
Yeah always. It's just the way the system cleans water and after product of it. You need to clean it with something acidic like vinegar and you should be fine
@@JohnnyKReviews thank you sooo much! I seen it on sale for Black Friday and you gave such a great review with actual updates - thank you for that! A bit expensive but I think it’s worth it and I want to ditch the plastic
@@milanjohnson09 tbh I purchase glass or bpa free plastic refillable and fill it up at stations which are reverse osmosis. The cost to replace the filters and the Aqua Tru in my opinion is high. But if you have no refillable stations it would be a very good option.

Yeah you're probably right. I guess depending on where someone uses this, they could experience the same issue. Where do you live?
@@JohnnyKReviews Dallas, TX. I just did my first descaling after 2 years.
@@nimajavadi6986 nice! Yeah water where I’m at is terrible. I use to live in Addison and the water was good there I remember.
Use white vinegar and water and let it soak in there. It will remove it easy.
Just wanted to say thanks for this video. Was exactly what I wanted to know with these machines the cleaning process.
You need to use white vinegar and let it soak. In your case, once each week. Maintenance is key!
Thank you! I'll need to try that next time :)
My AquaTru is 3 years old and I've never noticed buildup in my tap water tank and sometimes i go 2-4 weeks without cleaning it.
Hi! That is scale buildup and you need a descaler to get it off. I purchase the descaler right from the aquatru website.
Thank you I'll have to go buy one now
Hard local water. Happened to mine but it did come off with a dishwasher soft nylon pad
Thank you for that suggestion! I tried different soaps and vinegar but may try that as a next steo

It's keeping all of the contaminants inside that tank. That's how it work. That means it's working. LOL

I agree it's a small container for two heavy water drinkers.
Buy a second dispenser. One for the frig one on the machine

You can purchase water softners for the home. Not sure if you can get one to just attach to the kitchen faucet or not.

If you soak your containers in vinegar and hot water they will become clear again. Let soak for 30 minutes.
Thank you for that suggestion!
Hi there, would you tell me how much vinegar to put into the tank and water? I don't know how much to put in. To take off the scaling deposit
White vinegar does the trick in cleaning the tank.

Fr I want to avoid plastic…wtf
Such an easy fix too I’d gladly pay a little more for a glass reservoir

I put vinegar on it. Scaling gone. Poof! ✨
Dude, you just have really hard water LOL. Get over it. Descale it like they say. Citric acid. RTFM....
