I was on my way home from work when a homeless person on the 16th St. Mall asked me for some money. I politely told him I didn't have any. People are homeless for so many different reasons but, why do many leave piles of trash wherever they go? My family and I were having this discussion and we figure they are probably in such a low spot being in survival mode only so, they’re not thinking about keeping things neat or littering in their location. Years ago I worked with women trying to transition out of halfway houses. They had a history of struggling with poverty and addiction. As I spoke with them about their situations I noticed a pattern of multiple poor choices along their road in life and sometimes a sense of laziness or non-motivation to improve things and to just take the easy route at that moment every time 🤷🏽♂️ We probably need to reopen more housing for the mentally unstable as well. If we could keep even a small percentage of people on regular medication it’s more likely they’d could be productive members of society.
It's almost always a pattern of multiple poor choices. You don't just miss a rent or mortgage payment and end up in a tent smoking crack. So, so many poor choices to get to that point.
Most are depressed, let’s get real here. Who wants to be homeless? Not many. Many poor choices as Sue Smith stated is a crock of sh!t. Looookkk arrroouunnddd outside of your white picket fences. An average worker makes less now than they did in the 70’s, yet rent is unsustainable if even attainable in the first place! Most that are making it, fall under the category of one check away from being homeless! So many put a stigma with being homeless it’s unreal. My degrees are in business management and I was a Senior Representative for the largest bank in the world. Do you know what happened? It damn sure wasn’t crack or mental instability. I was more than one paycheck away from losing everything but guess what, Getting sick is not covered correctly and Short term disability was only 20 consecutive days ( not business days) to be diagnosed with an acceptable sickness. Not even the doctors in New York can diagnose that quick and they are top notch. It was this is a corporate America. Our government was in jeopardy about 20-30 years ago and they were failing. People were realizing this and ready to overturn our government and they screamed for help hence our government sold their souls to the devil aka corporate America. Who is buying up the housing market and raising the rent so high it’s unrealistic? Corporations and the government doesn’t stop them. Pharmaceutical companies provided opioids for many many years knowing what they have done and our government didn’t step in until it started to effect the rich kids. But let’s not talk about the facts of the matter. Do you know what it’s like to get into a shelter? It’s unreal!! There’s literally months and months waiting list and when they call, you have to be ready to jump as high as they tell you to and when they tell you to. People need to get out their own heads and truly open their eyes. Our society is crumbling and everyone is diverting away from the true issues at hand. We could make our government fix all of this if we’d put their precious GDP on a back burner. All it would take is buying second hand items and our government couldn’t move forward, they’d have to face the facts of what we want now but so many are unaware of GDP much less even heard of it or the true power it ( we as consumers hold) has. All these things were done for a purpose as they seen the older generations attest and win and they didn’t want to risk that no more so what did they do? They dumbed down the average Americans. Unless we get smart and unite real quick, our country is done for. May our maker have mercy on our souls!
It's just going to get worse.we are being priced out because of Greed.and no one really gives a Dam.about IT rent goes up every 6 months or once a year.middle class is no more it's the Rich and greedy and the struggling and poor people.
I’m of the belief that if one isn’t contributing to society more than they are taking/interfering with society then one shouldn’t be allowed to remain in society. There has to be a line somewhere, right? And within that boundary I’m all for progressive improvements. Not saying throw the people to the wolves, just that we need a system that helps prevent, and doesn’t incentivize, a complete surrender to human apathy and/or lethargy. Why else should society, mainly the working class, have to bear the burden of such lost humans? Respectfully
Excellent points. Let’s think this through… Young kids aren’t an interference to society as much as they are the next up to keep civilization going. They are full of potential and contribute by learning and developing. The elderly are assumed to have contributed so much to society that they can even retire from their economic roles. As it is, I’m not swayed from my stance by either example.
There are more people lost than before because housing prices are f$cking ridiculous. Also, mental illness is on the rise and mental institutes that are designed to help or keep them away have been shut down. What you say makes sense, but I'm not sure if you meant that all homeless people are not contributing to society. A lot of them are but still can't find themselves a home because the prices and inflation are ridiculous. Horrible economy, horrible fake housing bubble, and horrible presidential administration. There's a reason why there are more homeless in places like California than Texas, because the housing prices in CA are F$CKED.
@@davidshaw1103 I don't think we live in the same reality. The kids today are useless and a blight to society. I've seen more elderly coming back to work than kids doing real work. There is zero potential on current gen people, they should be rebooted.
Housing first is essential! Shame on the politicians who should and could be making a difference and get people off the street regardless of their mental state or drug addictions but they do nothing! They need to get homeless people housing first. They should be designated fenced in places with tiny houses for them. To just allow them to live & sleep on the streets is unhealthy, dangerous and will only get worse. There also needs to be much more affordable housing programs nation wide. Not just for immigrants, blacks and Hispanic's but for all Americans especially senior citizens, disabled and people with low income. Rent is way too high, and even if one gets a low cost housing voucher most apt complexes still go by your income and credit score which is ridiculous because those are the main reasons they are applying for low cost housing. So they make it even harder for people who are accepted to get low cost housing to get it! The laws and policy rules are horrible and they need to be changed. If you call they tell you your on your own, we don't find housing for you. So even people who are accepted for low cost housing have to jump through hoops and go through a ton of red tape and are treated unfairly. Not counting the $50 to $100 fees per application for a apt. Its disgusting! One day these crooked politicians will have to answer to God as "God does not allow the guilty to go unpunished".

Homelessness and living in one's car are spiking because big government delivered a one-two punch to working Americans: The COVID lock-downs and the inflation that resulted from COVID subsidies. All of this misery is the direct result of big government action.
We live in a school bus that we bought for a few thousand dollars. The tax payers pay for years for these school buses and when they are taken out of commission, many still run great. Others can be parked on public property anywhere on a vacant public lot and with a few solar panels and pallet wood and become a shelter. Diesel heaters cost $160 and take an hour to install and use very little fuel. School buses are a common sense answer to a homeless crisis.
My experience is most who are addicts don’t want to be sober, it’s easier to be an addict. I didn’t qualify for help because 1.) I wasn’t an addict, 2.) I wasn’t disabled, 3.) I wasn’t old enough- not a senior citizen 4.) I wasn’t poor enough but no one speaks about homeless people like me. He’s very rare /a unicorn 🦄 that he wanted to change his life for the better.
Government regulations is one of the biggest barriers to building new housing. Licenses and permits should be illegal in the United States if you are a land owner.
Americans need the ASSURANCE of housing as a HUMAN RIGHT amended to the CONSTITUTION for HOME AUTONOMY through HOME OWNERSHIP for EVERYONE and ALL. No one should have to 'apply' or 'qualify' for a home. Rentals should be reserved for vacation space and hotels, not a permanent home. 'Real estate investors' and 'land lords' should be abolished and have no place in a civilized society.

Serious problem with pure capitalism. No social system, the gap between poor and rich opened sky-high, the middle class is shrinking, more and more people can’t get good education, which make them easy to manipulate and now you arrived at the elections when those people vote for a far-right populist like Trump. US democracy fell becase the country didn’t care about its own citizens and thought that everyone can have the same life because of equal chances. That’s the big lie of this country. I do my very best to stay presentable and I don't litter. I stay away from others that choose to live like that. For me it is a choice. I worked hard all my life and I refuse to give away my minimal income to a society that has made it damn near impossible for the working class American to make with out a government handout.!
The problem doesn't lie at the bottom. It starts at the APEX.!!!
The hatred and greed in this country is down right appalling.
I'm of the firm belief that bureaucrats do nothing for this country but robbed the coffers.
Proud to be a old Hobo 🤓
"Do nothing but rob the coffers" and you are on disability that I/ WE pay for.
Just one of those days where there’s a lot to cover in the news. I wish that there had been some statistics on how many beds are available for people who have Medicaid and addiction but no legal charges…. We wait until the last minute because we don’t have the money to help people. And then we punish them mercilessly for needing help. Thomas Moore said it best, “first we create thieves and then we punish them for it. “
No they have the money 💰 , it's just not a priority to they ,they don't care it's not there family that's going through this .and yes ur right they do punish them instead of getting them the help that they really need. Welcome to America what a shame.......

Bring more illegals, kick more Americans out of there home illegals come first
Most are depressed, let’s get real here.
Because most of them are tweakers. Let’s be real
Shall we start by putting young kids to work and dispatching all the elderly?
Excellent points.
Let’s think this through…
Young kids aren’t an interference to society as much as they are the next up to keep civilization going.
I SUPPORT EUTHANASIA, THEY ARE SUFFERING. 🧡🧡🧡
"Housing is a human right".
Wonder what happens if I become a druggie social worker like her and tell my landlord that.
She's a scab and part of the problem.
First of all, keep your religious babbling to yourself. Second, "So even people who are accepted for low cost housing have to jump through hoops and go through a ton of red tape and are treated unfairly."
Ok! Don’t so drugs and blame others for your fate!!

Why?
What's that have to do with anything about homelessness? It's happening all over the country, even in red states like Texas.
@@wturner777 I’ve lived in Colorado for 40 years. Immigrated here from South America. I’ve seen a drastic change in this state since it turned blue. The lax attitude towards crime by democrats have destroyed downtown Denver. The police can’t do anything in terms of encampments in the city because of Democrat sponsored policies that remove the power away from police.
It is its Christian duty to provide asylum to the climate-refugees it is creating at the southern border; *per international law.*

WHY IS 2 MILLION DOLLARS FOR COUNTY HOUSING FOR THE STATE OF HAWAII IN QUESTION?
It is not easy to listen to what is said with this constant music.
lots of homeless people
Homeless population across the country are created by wages that are not a living local commute. If the wages are not transient wages or homeless wages then there are fewer people in homeless population across the country. 4 times the rent for one bedroom apartment local commute is what landlord rightfully expects a person to have as income and this is the minimum wage legal minimum wage act is not a homeless wage. Enforced legal wages.
Using old hotels and motels for human beings less fortunate that have been abandoned due to problems with the economy is wise.
Homelessness and living in one's car are spiking because big government delivered a one-two punch to working Americans: The COVID lock-downs and the inflation that resulted from COVID subsidies. All of this misery is the direct result of big government action.
And yet I own three properties in Hawaii on SSI.
Hurry to Venice beach or San Diego before it starts getting cold.
Or do whatever it takes to get out of homelessness. It's not going to be easy though.
Fresh plantations and fresh soil dirt. I am told I did not make enough

Government regulations is one of the biggest barriers to building new housing. Licenses and permits should be illegal in the United States if you are a land owner.
Purge??🤔

You can’t have democracy without normal living standards and good education for EVERYONE.
The richest 1% stole your and the world’s future.

Obama was in office for 8 years. Biden is in office now. But, yes let's blame Republicans for all life's problems smh 🤦♂️ 🙄
@@gmfitzg This progress started decades ago and now you're here with poor educated people who easily fell for populists. Democrats can come up with their own moron but until now republicans managed to unleash the cult of a narcissist toddler. If you look at your political landscape the republicans don't even try to argue they have very low-qualified unintelligent childish jerks like Cruz, Giuliani or MTG. But easy-to-manipulate people without critical thinking eat this shit like candy. Just look at the gun-control topic with theri one-door, good-man-with-a-gun, armed-teachers or thought-and-prayers reasoning. Pathetic. Democrates have other problems with their over-loaded identity business but that doesn't seem to be so harmful as the far-right movement of republicans who were eager to overturn the elections.
And the root cause of all of this is poor education because of wide open economical scissors and ever-shrinking middle-class.
Pure capitalism turned to be good for the minority of rich people in 2022 which should be solves somehow but I'm afraid that it's easier to manipulate the poors that come up with a country-wide social and educational system. Good luck with your democracy I don't give it 8 years from now (if Trump comes back, then it's over in the minute).
