Holy cow! I was a resident of that dorm from 1988-1992. Bldg 255. First room was #208 and ended up in room #127 when the base closed. Still remember the spiral staircase in the dayroom up to the pool tables on the 2nd floor. The 3rd floor was the bar! I retired from Nellis is 2012 and went back to George, or what was left of it, around that time. So many memories came flooding back.
I was stationed here from 87-89. This was my dorm and the red Nissan Sentra in the parking lot belonged to a friend of mine. This video is a real time capsule for me. Those were great times! Young and care free...Thanks!
This is so cool! I lived in this dorm too at the same time. I was looking for my 1980 Datsun truck. I worked Crash Recovery/Aero Repair on the Weasels at the time. What memories! This was videoed 30 days before I met my wife...how cool. I’m still in the Air Force, a Lt Col Squadron Commander now. Thanks for sharing!
Just drove through GAFB few days ago. Such a shame and a mess now. Buildings collapsing, graffiti everywhere, some buildings burned to the ground. I was there in 1981 when I was visiting while I was in the Army. So sad they let it go. I posted the video on my you tube channel if you watch you'll see what I mean.
You too? I was there from 1989 to 1991! My dorms were seen through the blinds he shot through. I was in yellow section of the 35th EMS. Ended up deploying to Desert Storm in August 1990! Great to see other ammo troops here!
worked there 98-00 .. was a ghost town.. buildings were abandoned but still looked ok... red baron cafe was still operating.. i think the golf course was still operational.. but now all of the base besides the airfield section is in ruins.. i remember they filmed parts of faceoff on airfield side..
thank you for uploading and thank you for serving our country. Just saw adamthewoo's video on the base and it's sad to see that once a bustling well kept basehere in your video is now a dilapidated ghost town to the elements
I lived at George in 1987 and boy to I miss it. Now my family is finding out that George Air Force Base was toxic and caused my brothers and sisters to get very sick. We lived at Montana court.
I’m supposed to be going there for my friends birthday and from the videos I see now man it is so messed up and seeing this videos already changing my perspective on it
Was there end of 1967 through December, then off to Thialand, Korat AFB. It looks like the guys after us had it pretty good....A BurgerKing !!!! Give me a break!!
You get that camera at the BX! Forgot about that ugly n uncomfortable furniture! Think they even made us move it all in to, had to be in 1990 n the weight of them was crazy. I got to do a reality military show there in 2001 n my room looked like I left the day before. It has since been torn down. Feels like just there again, thanks!
ive lived in victorville off and on a couple times since 1990, Gaf base now are just ruins. Although some big companies, schools and a commercial airport have occupied that base for a few years now. at least it isnt totally gone to hell.
Hey i have videos of your old dorm, i saw this vid and i wanted to see it for my self. Went there yesterday and want to grab some pictures. If theres any way you can contact me i can share them with you.
+Bret Lewis I worked for Col. Richard T. Cole at the 831st AD Base Closure office in 90. It was closed because the budget was slashed and the US government wanted to sell it.
I was stationed there from 1961to3 at the hospital. The old WW11 ramp hospital.

Thanks for the comments! It is sad for me to see what has come of that base. I hadn't realized how much I enjoyed my time there at the time.
Great videos. I actually took some videos today of the barracks. They still have all the stuff inside them.
Oh wow! I was stationed at George from 1983-1985 and I think that was the same dorm I lived in! I was in the 35th EMS. Cool to see this!

We were stationed here for seven years until base closing. Now I am getting reports of very serious toxic waste in the water and everything.
Hard to believe it closed I stood exactly where he was in that room a couple of weeks ago now I know what it looked like

It’s amazing what 30 years of decay and abandonment will do to a place. Looks nothing like this now

Do you have any more footage of the base to upload?

If you’re referring to the building at :19 it was an administrative building. It’s where you would get set up with your ID cards
