We've had a great flow this year (goldenrod & so on) but I've been dealing with a lot of robbing. And they didn't touch my pollen patties but the hive beatles love them.
No Trey I haven't. Making your splits to have plenty of bee coverage is the key. I have had a few colonies that perished for other reasons and had to quickly save my combs before the beetle took over! Killing them in traps help reduce the stress.
Kamon Reynolds - Tennessee's Bees I lost a big hive this year to Beatles I think, my theory is for most of the summer it had a screed bottom board witch allowed Beatles to come into the hive. I switched to a solid bottom board after noticing this happening and noticing excessive amounts of Beatles in the trap. By then I guess it was to late. A week later I noticed Beatle larva at the entrance. After dismantling the hive the entire bottom board was coved with larva. It was a terrible mess to clean up. Lucky I still have 3 hives left. Thanks for sharing your bee keeping perspective. It’s helps me become a better bee keeper.
Looks like the splits I did in August myself Very pleased with the explosion in growth Your videos have been an immense confidence builder and help. Thank you for sharing your knowledge
Thanks Russell for all the encouraging comments over the last 2 years. The whole experience has been really shocking and it has been my pleasure to get to know so many beekeepers from around the world and perhaps share a tip or two.
Kamon and Laurel, the two of you work magic with bees. I’m sure your Queen rearing gives you a big advantage. You need to change the name of your channel to The Bee Magicians.
The Hive and the Honey Bee, I guess I made a typo, the keyboard on a phone is too small and I undoubtedly didn’t proof read before posting. Maybe I need to turn on my spellchecker. Are you an English teacher or do you just not make mistakes?
I really like the idea of using jester nucs for splits! Then moving them into 10 frame boxes. Wooden ware gets expensive. In one of your early videos you pointed out how important it is to have the same equipment so everything is interchangeable within the apiary. I'm sold on that philosophy!!
There's the giggles. Nucs are looking good. Cincinnati 1st frost or freeze is 2nd to 3rd week of October. About 4 weeks left for the bees to pack the hives. Thanks
Lol! Can't mow because of a few little rain showers? Try living in Seattle--we mow even during the rain! Otherwise, our lawns wouldn't get mowed all winter. :)
I know the spring was not good for your business. Hopefully the fall is helping make up for that. Like the old saying goes, sometimes your the bug and sometimes your the windshield. Spring you were the bug. Now your the windshield. Can't be good always. Life is full of trials. How you get through the bad defines us as humans and hopefully we are able to learn and get better.
soooo many videos i can't decide what to watch!!!! what's that thing hanging between the frames? i feel bad for those birds in that cage :( nice video though! :)
Thankfully we have a 1600 sq ft fence around them now so that they can free range more than just moving the pen once a day. Raccoons and the neighbors dogs are big issues right now. The strip in the hive is apivar and it is daily killing mites
We have dropped temps. from high 80s to 50s during the day. It'll last til Saturday. Do you think I can get in an OAV treatment while theyre all inside or will it do more damage during this cold snap?
I'm a KNOXVILLE U.T. Grad during Peyton Manning's days ... I've seen a LOT of those crazy things going on in Tennessee! LOL! WHy do you put your NUCs on the ground? Should they be up on a brick?
Hey Jed D. Peyton Manning was awesome to watch! The reason they are on the ground is because it is quick and easy. They are only going to be in those boxes for a month and a half and do very well for me like this. Haven't seen any ill effects doing this for such a short period.
Hi Kaman. Nice job on the splits. Just wondering, where those splits from your queens or were they from Michael Palmer Queens ? Also was there a big difference between your Queens and Michael Palmer Queens.
Thank you for all these videos, I had a double nuc that I just put in a 10 frame hive, 8 frames were all brood, pollen and honey, 2 full frames of honey, Question I'd like to know about, Is Apivar strips temperature sensitive, It's been in the 90's here in Fla. , Thank you
I have a question for you i have 2 hives of mt grey for 3 weeks and all of sudden they went very aggressive and now will chase you 100 ft from the hive don't understand why
Has anyone ever done a study on how much a bee consumes in a day. I was wondering how much honey is in a cell and how many bees can it sustain and for how long. I realize it will depend on how active the bees are. The only thing I found was two conflicting statements that a honey bee can produce 1/12 of a teaspoon of honey in its lifetime or that a single honeybee can produce a teaspoon of honey in its lifetime. I will be overwintering bees in a layens hive for the first time this year and the bees are suppose to have a larger band of honey on the larger frames that will sustain them and there really is no way to have sugar placed on top of the hive like a langstroth hive. I will probably put sugar in a frame feeder for a reserve. It is an insulated hive so that might also make them more active thus consuming more resources during the winter.
hi kamon my name is mike i live in n.e. ohio im a first year bee keeper been doing it for 6 mounts my bees are dong good but know i smell a rank smell in my hives is it golden rod? my bees look good
Hey Christopher we will start taking orders again in January and will be announce that on here and on my Facebook page. FYI we don't ship. Pick-up is in Gainesboro TN.

Kamon thats so nice of you to video the nuc's we will be getting from you in the spring. lol
Haha this gal will be 2 nucs by spring :-)
Great video. Thanks
I just transferred a nuc into a 10 frame deep box the other day because of the same reason. They are booming!! Thanks for the video!
very nice!

Boy! those do look GOOD. Bet you already have 'em in 10 framers by the time you see this.
Looking God, have fun! 🤞

@@kamonreynolds thanks for responding how do the raccoons get them? would love to see how you deal with raccoons thanks!
When is the latest you can put a nucleus box out.to attract bees.
About to put my Aug.nucs in a 10 frame
getting really dry up here in the NW / LOve your videos keep up the great work
You said a link to your other channel would be shown. Not in the space above. ???
Hey Jeff, Sorry I missed that. It is now it the comments at the top and it is here! ua-cam.com/video/DHwg43eSk6s/v-deo.html

you can OAV in the 30's no problem won't hurt them
New veil
Kamon, do you put any additives in your syrup for feeding your bees?
I don't. I use to but never noticed any benefit. All the guys I collaborate don't use any and 3 of them keep well over 1000's hives

I had three swarms about three weeks ago, but no drawn comb frames, and it is holding them back. What to do ?
Maybe feeding 1:1 will help them draw it. Otherwise the only other option I know is better comb product

Apivar thankfully is not temperature sensitive!
Are you treating your big hives with OAV now?
I won't be using OAV on the big guys until winter.
