It's either that... or she's a really insecure lady acting this way as a shield to the outside world. Which is more likely, more commen, but not as fun..

Killing mallrats would in fact cause problems. The mallrats are know as heroes mostly. And they are not know as being the problem right now, the zootists are. if Mega suddenly wastes a whole tribe within the safe zone, the other tribes will freak out and likely rebel because Mega would become more terrifying to them then the zootists in that moment. It was smart of Mega to keep the mallrats alive. He made mistakes, but that wasn't one of them.
