Agree with Eric about the narration. Was about half way through the episode and thought to myself not having it kind of ruins the show, so glad it came back at the end.
@@spbspb2413 I had seen a couple quotes talking about the show and they had said they're making some major changes to the structure, so I was a bit concerned that was one of them. There are structural reasons why having it can limit the ways to tell a story, so I could see why it might have been one of the things they changed. I'm just glad they didn't.
I more worried we won’t get the intro. The pilot is fine without but I need my song and an updated intro with him chopping wood putting the blood (I know) on the ham and chewing it. Tying up his boots, checking the fishing hole. Sharpening knives. If they don’t do it I’ll have to make my own to watch before each episode. If I do I’ll post it for others (if the show fails us)
I'm surprised none of you have noticed that the intro with the super quick cuts literally showed key moments that happened later throughout the episode. I'm expecting that sort of 'foreshadowing' to happen in every episode moving forward. This, I believe, is connected to the ending of the show. For some context... When season 8 ended and was heavily criticized, Clyde Phillips (original creator/writer of the show for season 1 to season 4 and the person behind this revival) revealed what would have been the ending of Dexter had he remained the main writer. **********POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD********** He said that the story would have ended with Dexter receiving a lethal injection in a room in prison just as the viewers would realize that the entire show had been Dexter's life flashing before his eyes. On the other side of the glass in the room, Dexter would be watched by Doakes, Miguel, Brian, Debrah, and everyone else whose death he was responsible for. Now, with that in mind, I can't help but think that these rapid flashes at the beginning of this first episode might be connected to that particular ending. If we see new ones next episode, then I'll definitely start to believe that we are heading toward that aforementioned ending or, at least, a somewhat similar conclusion involving Dexter watching his life play out quickly in his head. I love that y'all are reacting to Dexter. I've always been obsessed with this show. I feel about Dexter the way I felt about Tony Soprano "Sopranos". Both men do horrible things but you root for what would normally be a "villian". I genuinely care for their well being.

I think they're gonna turn Harrison into a serial killer and make a spin-off. It makes sense since he was "born in blood," too. I think he's the "New Blood".
@blink wave I just rewatched the episode and noticed something worth noting. At 30:02 into the full episode when deb is holding up the bullet that she picked it out of her stomach, blood starts to pool on Harrison’s chest. I wonder if this has any significance or why that might have happened. Very weird!!!! Loved y’all’s review and I’d love to hear what y’all think about this scene I’m talking about!
a tragic aspect of her listing off those names (Doakes, Laguerta, Rita) is the realization that almost everyone who knew or loved Deb are long dead. she only exists as a figment inside Dexter's head to keep him from killing. in life and death, a fate she got doomed to by her father Harry
I absolutely LOVED this episode. It felt like a natural evolution of his character. Find a routine, stick with it, try to adapt to some some semblance of a normal lifestyle. I also loved the fact Deb has taken over for Harry as his inner voice. And my favorite scene was probably when Dex told Matt "You killed my deer!" when he was on his table. The unfettered rage in his voice was intimidating as hell. Loved it!!
