That was ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL. I'm really proud of you!!! I've grown pumpkins in the past, but nothing like this. I know the work involved in growing anything at all. The love and dedication you showed to that plant was a testament to what farmwork really is. Job well done!!
Thanks for the compliment! Those are actually just weeds and not a cover crop. I let them grow to keep something living in the soil. I figure it helps with the soil biology. I just pull them a foot or two ahead of the plant. It keeps the soil loose, which I then use when burying vines.
@theturnerranchwi i thought it'd be the issue. I've been developing a rather large syntropic edible forest for the past few years! The focus of the place is obviously food but it also works as a turist atraction so i modeled it as a park! That said I'd love to have some seasonal highlights and a 500+lbs pumpking would be awesome. I'll do some research into companion plants for this crop then and come up with a plan to add it next year. Thank you for the answer, again! Cool video.
@ Thanks for the compliment on the video! I sell seeds from my biggest pumpkins, but if you are aiming for 500 pounds, I have other seeds that I would send you for the cost of shipping that should be able to get you a pumpkin that big.
@ I can look into it. I have shipped overseas before. Mainly need to make sure that there aren’t any restrictions and that the seeds can make it through customs.
Ok, ok, last one... What variety was that pumpkin and where did you get the seed? Are any of those seeds from that pumpkin or any others you grow available?
All of the true giant pumpkins are the variety Atlantic Giant. You need to get some with good genetics. If you get them from a big box store and do everything right, they probably will get 200 pounds max. I got my seeds from other giant pumpkin growers. I don’t have the seeds from this pumpkin because it rotted while on display for Halloween. I do have seeds for sale from my 1931 pound pumpkin and 1970.5 pound pumpkin. You should be able to find those here. Let me know if that link doesn’t work. beacons.ai/theturnerranch
The pumpkin was NEVER putting on 47lbs. a day... Give me a break .I would of put the time into rotating the pumpkin so there's not a flat spot on one side where it was resting during the whole growing season.
I wouldn’t doubt if it was growing 50 lbs. per day for a few days. There are some that grow close to 70 lbs. per day at their peak. I know a couple guys that grow on a scale so they would know for sure how much they are putting on each day. I would love to hear your suggestion on how to rotate a pumpkin that big without picking it off the vine or damaging it.
One more thing, that video is underrated and under viewed. I'm subscribing, can't get enough of what you do!! Well done!
Thanks for subscribing! Hopefully you subscribing and your comments help convince UA-cam to push the video to more people.
@@theturnerranchwi I truly hope so, more people should see this.

Hey! Love the story video! ❤🎃
Thank you! This one took me FOREVER to edit. Started with 7 hours of video that I had to edit down.
Wow !!!
Thanks for watching!
Great video! How are you terminating your cover crop as the plant grows into it?

Awesome stuff! Have you any idea what would it take to grow something like this but organically?
I haven’t tried, but have heard of others trying. I think they usually struggle with pests and other issues.
