I saw him in Denver and he's a riot. It's strange, the energy from the show comes from his between-song stories and jokes and then the pumped up light-show - because he himself is at his piano the whole time, so it's not like he's running around pumping everyone up. I remember the crowd around me took a little time to get warmed up too. But we got there in the end lol

“Underrated” is code for “Why don’t people like him like I do?”

    • @aureliusmcnaughton6133
      @aureliusmcnaughton6133 7 місяців тому

@@christopherp.hitchens3902 you're presuming to know how much I like him. I'm not a fan of his, I've never bought his music or gone out of my way to listen to it. But from a musical standpoint I'm capable of recognizing that he doesn't generally get the level of recognition that he deserves for being so prolific and having such a broad appeal as a song writer. Some people are much less talented and receive much more attention, and they are "overrated".
Now that you know the proper definition of "underrated", go re-read my comment and think about what a douche you sound like.

My BFF and I got one of those coveted front row seats to Billy Joel and Elton John years ago in Columbus, OH. The guy came up to us while in a line for food and asked to see our tickets. When we showed him, he said, 'Come with me.' And took us to the front row! Best experience ever!

Hard to believe he is turning 75 in May. Like most of us I grew up with Billy’s music. He is one of the most prolific singer/songwriters of all time. 52nd Street from 1978 is my favourite album of his with classics like Honesty, My Life, Big Shot and Rosalinda’s Eyes.

My fav album too. Would listen to 52nd Street on the carpet in our den in ‘78 when I was 10 yrs old. Just from the top of my memory there was Stiletto, Half a Mile Away, Zanzibar and Until the Night which is one of Billy’s best songs ever most people never heard. Instead of giving some long winded speech that nobody would remember, he decided that we should all sing together. So he started singing a song and we all joined in. Getting to "sing with" Billy Joel was amazing.

My favorite Billy Joel CD is "The Bridge" from 1986. It perfectly personifies the era for me. Especially the song "A Matter of Trust".

Omg, Billy takes the LIRR to his shows? The LIRR goes right into the Garden. That means we can run into him on the train on the way to one of his shows?
    How cool would that be?

I was lucky enough to be at one of the 12 Gardens Live shows. Those shows were among Billy’s best ever concerts for sure (according to people who had attended nearly every concert he ever did sitting in front and next to us), and he even played two songs he hadn’t done in years and years.
I was also lucky enough to see Elton John at his 60th birthday - we got tickets by sheer miracle because a good portion of the tickets were reserved for Elton’s personal guests who came in via a Red Carpet event. That was also an epic night!
I haven’t been to too many concerts in my life because I come from a family with a widowed mom that struggled, and then I became permanently disabled twenty years ago when I was 22 years old. However, I feel blessed that I’ve seen both of these icons when they both put on two incredible shows. And fortunately both ended up recorded so I can relive the memories on repeat!

Last time I saw him not on concert or such on tv,
was when he went to Orange COunty Choppers, and had them do up a custom bike.
One of the guys there tried putting a fancy tail light on the bike, but billy just smashed it off, said he wanted a CLASSIC bike.

My background is punk and metal, but I will never miss a chance to see this guy. First time I saw him he played four hours straight like a mad man and bloodied his knuckles up, come to find out that's just how he goes every night or just wont play. Respect!

Billy Joel's recounting of the ride home in the car after the show as just another shlub in traffic sounds a lot like Joe Walsh's description. In an interview one day with Stern, Walsh described a similar experience. One minute you're on the stage and you're God and women are throwing their underwear onto the stage for you, and then in the next minute, after the show, your whisked away in a limousine to a shitty hotel room where you're flicking around cable stations with the TV remote in the dark. Wow. Quite the transition. I'm glad I'm just a schlub and don't have to deal with that!

damn, i was hoping to catch the show at MSG before he quits! i was 12 when my much older brother introduced me to him, gave me all his vinyls, made a tape with all my favorites. as soon as CDs came about i bought every single album. my favorite to this day is his debut album 'Cold Spring Harbor' closely followed by 'The nylon curtain'. i will forever be grateful for the comfort he gave to me with his music!
