NOTE: MrMobile was informed late in the review process that the Honor Magic Vs software would receive an update before release. That update will address, among other things, the missing app drawer - though more details were not immediately available. If the Magic Vs user experience changes significantly in the time leading up to release, follow-up coverage may be warranted. Stay tuned! EDIT: There was also confusion about how many years of platform updates Honor would commit to. The official word seems to be three years, as opposed to the two I quoted in the video. MrMobile regrets the error.
Even if it doesn't, you can always install something like Nova Launcher to fix a lot of these minor issues too. It's always the first thing I install on my new phones. Including my current Oppo Find X5 Pro.
That user interface is almost a one to one copy of my Huawei Mate 20 Pro's user interface, it's like Honor just blatantly copied EMUI 10 and made a foldable of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro 😂
MrMobile, now that multiple Chinese company shown us that we can have slim foldable that folds flat, which is what I would prefer, what do you think Samsung should do? Is it possible yet for them to do the same without losing the sturdy hinge, water resistance, etc?
Yep, an IR blaster is one of those things you don't think about until you need it. My Poco F3 has one after my last three phones didn't and just when I got it last year the remote for my Blu Ray player went missing while moving. That ten cent IR blaster is the difference between me having a movie night and me having e waste as I can't find a replacement online.
I totally concur. The last time I had a smart phone with an IR Blaster was in my Galaxy Note 4. And, sure, maybe there are some that don’t think twice about it considering that most apps run over wifi to control smart TV’s among other things. But in the event that you don’t have wifi access to the unit that’s connected to the internet, then it helps to simplify the annoyance of trying to find a remote that could otherwise be within your grasp in the form a smartphone.
I still miss this feature, I could essentially double any remote in the house. So if my gf was sleeping with the remote on her side I just used my phone. So nice to not have to look for the particular remote for a device or the universal one, just the phone.
@@efechief2659 not everybody but a lot of people put it to good use. I loved being able to control my AC, fans, heater, TV, etc with just my phone. Not everything uses wifi and honestly a lot of wifi powered devices are so janky. IR devices just work.

The quirk with Honor/Huawei OS is that tapping notification popups will open apps in windowed mode, while tapping them in the shade opens them in full screen. Nobody nails foldable software like Samung's One UI and that's why I went with the Fold 4.
Wanted to say thanks for, alongside the work put into the tech reviews, contextualizing the ads instead of simply reading copy from the company. It makes a world of difference in making them palatable, and as someone who typically hates adverts with a passion, the insight into why the sponsor was chosen from an actual user of the product makes me infinitely more inclined to listen to the pitch. The brevity helps too.
Watching this on a Fold 4 and makes me so happy that Samsung's OneUI is as stable as a foldable software gets. I rarely ever have problems multitasking on it. I love my fold!
Software experience on Samsung devices is amazing. No matter how beastly other phones are in my price range, they don't bring me the same ease & cohesion that Samsung's OneUI brings. Even Bixby has gotten so much better. Not to mention the software updates for years!
Enjoyed the review. I find it strange how common it is for reviewers to knock on colorful icons, and drawn illustrations in their devices as childish. Same goes with having more colorful or designs on the phone itself being labeled as toy-like. I need color and art in my life, that doesn’t make me a child. (My penchant for toys and children’s show does :V) For the icons and font, it also helps people find things easier. An example is when Google changed a bunch of their icons to have similar colors. I’ve had a harder time finding gmail, drive, and meet when they did.
exactly. I was under the impression that he's way pass his "edgy teen" phase. Seems I was mistaken. Dismissing artworks and colorful icons as "childish" is exactly what an "edgy teen" would do, as you're supposed learn to appreciate art and colorful things the older you get.
I hope HONOR listen to what you've raised. All weaknesses in software could be a big problem in the international market. I'm also an HONOR fan, but since I moved to the iOS ecosystem I think that most android phone brands are still very young in software optimization.

I like how these foldables are maturing. I’m keeping an eye on them as my next phone may very well be a foldable. My iphone 11 pro max still has a year or two of life though.
This has to be the best review that you have ever done. It made me who was not interested in foldables at all, watch the whole thing and consider buying a foldable as my next phone. Job well done
So much useful information here. Thanks and yes,... if the software would be fixed it CAN be worth this amount but hell... only 2 years of major updates is a bummer.
I asked for this review on twitter and I'm so glad you looked at this model. As is, even with the bugs and style issues, a custom launcher and some finger crossing for updates might have been enough for me to pull the trigger on this. But that price, oof. Favourite tech reviewer by far! The quality of your reviews are amazing. Genuinely watch them all the time (rematch ability too much 🤣) sometimes as just back ground noise because your voice is so good for narration!
Also the Fold 4 has stylus support, and as a Note (now Ultra user) that's important to me. THOUGH, the Fold 4's "special S Pen" is weird. It's an eraser in most drawing apps. I found this out by using it, and also owning EMR pens that have a dedicated "eraser" on them, and taking said pens with a dedicated eraser on them to AT&T and using them with the fold 4 without issue. This becomes problematic since a lot of apps code for and with that optional pen feature in mind. Meaning drawing apps on the whole get made useless on the fold.
Yeah, to prevent the use of other pens they just used the eraser frequency. Rather silly. They should have just made it very clear that using a non-Fold stylus is at your own risk.
@@tams805 RIGHT, or using that 25% ownership of WACOM, used the Cintiq frequency which is way different from the Bamboo Frequency (which is what consumer EMR devices use like e-readers and samsung devices).

Honestly, your best bet is to actually contact the developers of your favorite drawing apps to ask them to put in a simple "Fold mode" settings toggle that switches the default eraser bindings to those of the pen. 🤷
If I turned the sound off and squinted I'd be certain this review was of the Huawei Mate X2, which I recently parted with for all the reasons you mention. And aside from the internal camera and slightly different aesthetics elsewhere, the hinges etc look the same as does much of the user interface, errors and all. Whilst it was an amazing handset, it felt as though it had been rushed and somewhat unfinished.
I love your videos. You are just so fun and calming to watch and I love your foldable reviews. Your editing and scripting is top notch. You are my cool UA-cam uncle.
The Bad news is that Honor can update the software. Companies are okay with releasing phones with unreliable, unfinished and buggy software just because they know that they can fix it in a future release.
Excellent review of the device! And I’m happy that you pointed out the downside of that device: The Software. Coming from an iPhone i expect something for that price range and Android don‘t nail it, the foldables especially. I have to admit that the used hardware, like cpu finally catched up to the price tag, no “exynos experiments” on a device that is beyond the 1k mark. But the software still lags to utilize the individual strengths of the devices and that is pretty sad.
I just got my fold 4 a month ago, and am enjoying my choice! The only thing I'm gonna regret is not waiting to get the fold 5 later this year, but as it being my first fold phone I'm never going back to a normal phone and hopefully 3 years from now when I wanna upgrade to the new fold it will be worth it. Came from an iPhone 12 pro max Btw.
We need more global launch foldable, I know I will buy a Fold in the future, but it's current form is suboptimal at best, more people need to push Samsung forward.
The crease I would have thought would be lot less in Honor than samsung's... I love the larger size... samsung needs to catch up here. But I need the s pen and samsung's UI just keeps getting better...
I'd wish products would never reach maturity because that's when companies experiment like crazy and do interesting things.I am somehow noticing foldables are getting into mature territory, but could be the shortages of components and the economical context.
Hey, thanks for the video. Yeah I had her on her phone back when I was living in Southeast Asia. It was really good phone but the software was the issue. Seems like that’s still the problem anyway, hopefully they can fix it with some software updates.
I wish Android companies focused more on software details (not only foldables, any phone). Hardware reached the level where year to year difference is minimal, but constant chase for new processors, lenses often leads to software that's just not on pair with hardware of the device... Short periods between newest and upcoming models often result in "we fill fix it with updates, but hey, look what we prepared for our new device" halfbaked phones.
Love your reviews MrMobile very detailed and can see you really put time into the products you review, shame your not so much a gamer on the side of things, that 90Hz inside display is a deal breaker for me 100%
With each new non-Pixel foldable release, it becomes more and more apparent that for Western market users, the Samsung Fold series and hopefully the Pixel Fold when that comes out, are really the only options if you want foldable software that works like probably many of us in the US want to use a foldable. I am firmly in the Pixel camp in terms of experience and UI and unless Google somehow royally screws up their foldable, it will be my first foldable phone no questions asked.
There is absolutely no reason to think a Pixel Fold will be any good. Google apps are notoriously unoptimized for foldables, and Samsung's brute force fixes for aspect ratio and rotation, among other things, are the only reason Android works well on the Fold.
Yeah, I miss the IR blaster, I even if the phone is slightly under performing than say another I'm looking at, I will almost always go for the one with the IR blaster. I will sometimes go out my way for one.
Out of curiosity, do you use the GoodLock suite of apps on your Z Fold 4? Because I think it would really be useful for the bigger screen of the phone, especially in the personalization of menu and interface
I have to agree with the comment regarding his ( mrmobile) surprise on the software. Thought it's going to receive a software update. Certain quality of life functions should have been resolved before release and not promised near or after release. You can call yourself truly being competitive if you are not providing more than the already established Samsung fold.
That last statement was fantastic. It takes audacity to say such a conclusion despite being in their territory With that said, Huawei, and by extension Honor, is out of touch. They need to realize that their branding has been drastically diminished by the issues they faced in previous years. They are no longer as premium as they thought they are
This looked actually quite nice until you started addressing the software. I just noticed myself going "Ew....oh no...ewwwwww....EWWWWWWWW...the fuck?" That's just bad, nothing magical about having no app drawer and whatnot.
Forgot to set the shutter to Europe mode didn't you ;) Great video as always. This phone looks gigantic.. but I'm interested in a folding tablet so this might be interesting for me. If my surface duo 2 dies 😅 hopefully they'll change the software till then.
5000 mAh exactly is almost never the actual battery output. That's the typical value (i.e. the capacity of the battery). The rated value (the actual output of the battery found after a tonne of testing) is always less than the size of the battery. That's true for all phones actually, regardless of what number is on the spec sheet. The effective battery that we can get out of that cell is slightly lower than its typical capacity.
What bluetooth earphone are you using to record the audio in your closing statement "Is the price right?" Audio was impressively clear for all that background noise.
I think the main problem with all these foldable competitors to the Samsung, is that they are all coming from Chinese companies. Chinese companies that have spent many years now mostly just copying and they're mostly doing so again. Samsung used to do this, but they've done a lot of their own, dare I say original, stuff now. And the problem with copying is that you don't understand why things are done a certain way, just that they are. Hence why all these Chinese foldables are missing almost all the nice features.
That user interface is almost a one to one copy of my Huawei Mate 20 Pro's user interface, it's like Honor just blatantly copied EMUI 10 and made a foldable of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro 😂

MrFoldable don't miss the Techno Phantom V fold
you concentrate on so important informations .
you are the master .
10:20 These are planets, Jupiter and Venus to be specific which are getting closer (from our perspective) and closest will be on March 1st.
waiting for the magic 5 pro review 😍
This foldable is priced ridiculously. Way to expensive.
The Bad news is that Honor can update the software. Companies are okay with releasing phones with unreliable, unfinished and buggy software just because they know that they can fix it in a future release.
Just like the games industry nowadays.
Damn... how are your videos and dialogue so GOOD!?😮
I just want to say thank you for putting this much love in the craft. Goat
Love your Videos. Never have so much fun with tech and your Style stands out of the many techchannels.
Must’ve been a blast going to MWC for the first time in a while! Barcelona is a beautiful city, I’d love to go
10:54 Technical Guruji 😊
I always look forward to your foldable content! The #1 trusted source on foldables on UA-cam in my book
Hello! This is a Huawei "copy" that I dare you to use a week as a daily driver! 💪💪💪 Great work! Respect!
Great review Mike! Where's that S23 Ultra review?
I just got my fold 4 a month ago, and am enjoying my choice! The only thing I'm gonna regret is not waiting to get the fold 5 later this year, but as it being my first fold phone I'm never going back to a normal phone and hopefully 3 years from now when I wanna upgrade to the new fold it will be worth it. Came from an iPhone 12 pro max Btw.
Loved the Pixel peeping reference
We need more global launch foldable, I know I will buy a Fold in the future, but it's current form is suboptimal at best, more people need to push Samsung forward.
Nice TNG reference :)
Only thing that constantly gets better with time is MrMobile's videos.
1:10 Love the Allbirds
Love your reviews MrMobile very detailed and can see you really put time into the products you review, shame your not so much a gamer on the side of things, that 90Hz inside display is a deal breaker for me 100%
The interface is still the same as Huawei's. The only thing that separates them from Huawei is the skin/UI (Magic UI) and also they have GMS.
IR blasters are so underrated
Your device videos are truly the best IMO
It takes audacity to say such a conclusion despite being in their territory
With that said, Huawei, and by extension Honor, is out of touch. They need to realize that their branding has been drastically diminished by the issues they faced in previous years. They are no longer as premium as they thought they are
This looked actually quite nice until you started addressing the software. I just noticed myself going "Ew....oh no...ewwwwww....EWWWWWWWW...the fuck?"
That's just bad, nothing magical about having no app drawer and whatnot.
Honest reviews are always appreciated 👍
Epic outro music 🎶!
Oh no, seeing Austin Evans in the wild should terrify anyone!
Forgot to set the shutter to Europe mode didn't you ;)
Great video as always. This phone looks gigantic.. but I'm interested in a folding tablet so this might be interesting for me. If my surface duo 2 dies 😅 hopefully they'll change the software till then.
All the downsides here are making me wait until pixel fold.
Great review as always.
If you think the Pixel Fold will be any better
.. hoo boy.
@@nickthaskater it can't be any worse!
Turns it is
As usual, MrMobile is sharp and suited for an awesome well written phone review. Awesome!
Love your touch 🔥
Excellent selection for TNG episode
Did we get multiple videos in one week? I like it.
This dudes videos are so well written and displayed... it feels like Im watching a movie. 👏 👏
"We would be honoured, if you would join us"
Fisher: pew pew pew
Seems like too many missing features in the software - however the hardware looks nice. Great video Michael!
Amazing and reliable reviews as usual 👏🏼
Thank you Mr. Mobile
Can't understand why manufacturers aren't putting the inner display's punch in the corners instead...
Can't the lack of app drawer and notification shortcut be fixed with a launcher? And there are apps that let you double tap a button for camera?
What bluetooth earphone are you using to record the audio in your closing statement "Is the price right?" Audio was impressively clear for all that background noise.
Some of the software bugs are fixed now as on my honor pad 8 I can use a app drawer as well as themes honor watched this video
Hey Michael, don't miss the new foldable from Tecno !
Hence why all these Chinese foldables are missing almost all the nice features.
best foldble phone design ever
That user interface is almost a one to one copy of my Huawei Mate 20 Pro's user interface, it's like Honor just blatantly copied EMUI 10 and made a foldable of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro 😂
Thanks for the excellent review! Hoping for more competition so that Samsung stops pushing lacklustre followups to their Fold series
