    When you said the fuel valve broke, because it was cheap, reminded me of how sthil product is maid today. Crazy, two two giant companies in the high end world gone to crud.

    I bought one of these in March 2018 after losing power during blizzards. Haven't had a chance to use it, yet. But I wanted to run it for an hour or so to break it in and make sure it's all good. The first thing that broke on me while testing it was the fuel shutoff valve. Very cheap. Other than that, it seems like a nice unit.

    Nice vid what to expect when you get one of these like I just did. Thanks for the after-market oil filter number in other comments here. One thing on mine is I've run it longer than an hour for break-in so far and the led meter for total time still says 0000, so that's a bummer. All other led meter functions work correctly. Don't forget to float the neutral when you hookup to your house per NEC 702 code. Something CAT doesn't disclose, whereas some other Gen makers i was considering do in their owners manual and show you how.

      Question about the bonded neutral...Is it necessary to float, disconnect the jumper, if connecting to electrical service panel through a generator interlock?

    • @John-ce1lk
      @John-ce1lk 4 роки тому

      @@jdgreenpa Yes float (non separately derived system). Your service panel is already set up inside or perhaps even prior to that panel with a separate disconnect after Utility feed as a Separately Derived System (bonded). You're still connecting a ground and a neutral from Generator feed to your panel ground bar and neutral bar along with your new interlock breaker. You're not suppose to connect two bonded systems together. Just remember if you're ever going to use your port gen not to power your existing bonded system, you must convert it from float back to bonded as it came from manufacture and ground Gen frame with a ground rod to prevent possible shock hazard.

      Here are the generator safety tips:
      This is just a safety reminder
      1) Please do not allow an unqualified person or your children to operate the portable generator. Just because some manuals don’t say that doesn’t mean it’s safe. That is important against the generator safety rules. We also need to be keeping an eye on our children too. You need to make sure that your children are not playing near the portable generator especially when it’s running so they won’t get electrocuted. Generators pose electrical risks and they can be hot during an operation. Please keep your children away from the portable generator at all times. It is important to keep our children safe especially our little ones. Be aware of all the hazards.
      2) Some people use their portable generators indoors which increases the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. It’s important to have a carbon monoxide if you have a gas generator. Never ever use your generator indoors even if your doors and windows are open and even in the garage is not safe to use a portable generator. Not even at your porch and your deck. It is never safe to use your generator indoors and in enclosed areas of your home. Your generator needs to be 15-20 feet away from your house.
      3) 🔥generators cause fire hazards too. Never refuel your generator while it’s running. You need to let your generator cool off before refueling it and before storing your generator. Never overload your generator too. Never ever back feed your generator. You should never plug your generator into a wall outlet. Also never store propane tanks indoors. Please keep flammable things away from the generator as well and please don’t smoke cigarettes near the generator. Having a fire extinguisher next to the generator is also important against the generator safety rules.
      4) generator operation; make sure your hands are dry before touching the generator. Never use your generator in wet conditions. Don’t let your generator get wet. You need a generator tent if you need to use your generator during wet weather. Please don’t wear loose clothes when operating the generator. Turn on your generator before plugging in appliances. Use the right cord for your generator. Please do not use worn out cords.
      ua-cam.com/video/I1jT3ANENvI/v-deo.html and here is a video more about keeping others safe when using generators and also about our family’s safety. It’s always important to follow all the generator safety rules whenever you use your generator.
      Hope this helps

    Did you notice the fuel tank isn't 13.2 gallons as advertised by Caterpillar?
    I emailed Cat about this after I bought it and told them I couldn't even get 9 gallons in the tank. Cat's response was I was wrong. Why? Because the specs clearly state it's a 13+ gallon tank! So that was that.

  • @sly9263

    Oil filter is just going to catch/waste more oil... there's no need for an oil filter on this engine. I do like the convenience of the drain though.

    • @jonbonjovi7547

    • @sly9263
      @sly9263 4 роки тому

      @@jonbonjovi7547the type of motor doesn't matter. It's the frequency that you're required to change oil (and the volume) for these generators that makes it irrelevant. It makes some guys feel better though.

      @jonbonjovi7547 4 роки тому +1

      Please stop talking when you don’t know what your saying. The filter on that motor is the same OEM filter used on certain Japanese cars. Look up the specs on the GX630 it needs a filter

    • @sly9263
      @sly9263 4 роки тому

      @@jonbonjovi7547 I wasn't going to be rude, but you literally have no idea what you're talking about. An oil filter on engines in this application with changes this frequent is IRRELEVANT. Stop spreading nonsense moneysink bs about needing a filter to suck up extra oil and get gummed up, to replace every 1-2 days with a running generator. The only reason this engine has a filter is because its running a pressurized oil system- its stupid and a waste. Its overbuilt to make nancies feel better, as if the engine is ever going to fail due from oil in the first place. Sit down.
