for all you in social studies, heres the notes:
What was the goal of the Harlem Renaissance?
Because of the "great migration", more african-american people had come to live in harlem. Harlem became known as an african-american cultural center. Poets, writers, artists, musicians, and philosophers were all key parts of the movement. One of the key components of the Harlem Renaissance was music. Many african-american musicaians perfected their music, which had became very popular amounst white audiences. African-american poets wrote novels on african american culture, as well as combatting steteotypes of african-americans. The african american renaissance became a powerful impact on america and the world as african american artists, musicans and writers began to be respected on an international level. not only were white audiences were listening to black music, but white composers and musicans began encorperating african american rhythms and harmonies into their music.
The renaissance helped chnage the worlds perspective on african americans, a new image of sophisticated and intellecutal african americans began to emerge.

I love the music, literature and art of the Renaissance era.
As a history teacher - I have to say that it wouldn't have killed you to include some of the many Black women artists who made up the Harlem Renaissance.
True, their names should have been noted.
Shuuuut it
truuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
@Stephen Jenkins maybe not considered important by the men who wrote the history books 50 years ago, perhaps now we could look at it again through the lens of gender equality and judge for ourselves :-)
lmao

2:19 that leopard print outfit was not from the 20s!!!! it was more 1950, the 20s were the time of the wide dresses ('flapper dress') made for dancing
The HR had a time span of about 30 yrs, beginning in the 1920s, peaking heavily in the1930s and tapering off after the second world war.

i wonder what type of industry i would have been in during the Harlem Renaissance
Maybe cleaning up at the many hotels and theaters if you weren't a musician, many jobs were associated with the entertainment industry.
