That wanting to be petted thing doesn't wear out, even for a wild animal. What you said is true, because it's happened to me. As far as wanting your pet, they don't really "want" it. Hunger is more of an option than an instinct to be afraid of something that the wild thing doesn't understand.

Some years ago I was in Colorado's Roosevelt National Forest in a nice meadow and I parked my mini van with all windows to sleep for the night. It was mid summer still daylight as I started to go to sleep. As I closed my eyes I was awakened by something outside. When I opened my eyes there were 6 cows looking in my windows waiting to get fed or looking to bed down for the night next to a vehicle to feel safe from bears or coyotes.

Love the video! Really get sad though seeing all the deforestation! Nothing compares to virgin unspoiled forest. I love camping in the Hoh rainforest of the Olympics where its magical with giant trees and ferns.
One of the things I always notice in your videos is the amount of clear cuts. They're everywhere. Years ago I spent five months in the Whistler area and remember that as well. Still, it's absolutely gorgeous. As far as animals go you're right. They don't want anything to do with humans for the most part. Although you do get some interesting encounters once in a while. Once, during a weekend backpacking trip in Alaska there were four of us sitting around the fire when out of the darkness a cow moose literally walked between us and the fire. Scared the crap out of us but she seemed totally unperturbed and just continued on her way.

Chrome you could possibly consider movement sensor lights. I have 5 on my stairs. They are battery operated and as soon as they sense movement they turn on. Xx
Chrome, do you have one of those rescue beacons in case of emergency? I’ve looked at them, they’re a hundred and fifty bucks Canadian, but if you’re way out in the boonies….and something goes seriously wrong….you have a way out. They’re designed for boaters….but they use a satellite to notify the authorities that you’ve sent a distress signal….

I have been thinking about getting my own van for a long time, but always get sucked into convincing myself not to do it, even internally I know it is the right thing to do.
