    this has been the best tutorial for combination Knitters that I've seen. Seeing the front and back of the work after each example is really helpful.

    Thank you so much! I just learnt about combination knitting when I was searching for ways to tidy up my ribbing but was confused on how to decrease. My decreases will be slightly different as half my stitches are western-mounted and half eastern, but your video made the mechanics so clear that I'm now confident I can figure it out! Thanks again 😁

    I have to have my mother watch this and save it because she has so many issues. She is left handed and was taught to knit like a right handed person but has always wrapped her stitches as in eastern knitting and trying to knit western knitting patterns. I am sure you have instructions on eastern knitting western patterns. Thank you.

    This is the best video explanation of this style of knitting increases and decreases!!! I somehow taught myself to knit this way, because I thought it was easier. Once I figured out how to stop twisting stitches it worked great. I’m now learning lace knitting and it’s been a nightmare!! After seeing this video I know why! Thank you so much for the detailed instruction. I’m gonna go check out your class I’m Craftsy right now!

    I have been searching everywhere for this! I knit English Combination and am experimenting with Eastern Continental (since these are both the most natural for me) but the result is the same: “backwards” stitches.

    • @PattyLyonsKnitting
      @PattyLyonsKnitting  3 роки тому +2

      That's because the hand you hold your yarn in (left or right) will not affect how the stitch is formed. The direction you wrap your yarn is what does that. For more information on the difference between a knitting style (how you hold your yarn - English, Continental, Portuguese), and a knitting method (how the stitch is formed to sit on your needle - Eastern, Western, Combination), check out the class - pattylyons.com/product/improve-your-knitting/

    I just learned to knit and was having problems with rowing out, so I turned into a combination knitter and that worked great. but I only knew how to purl and knit and knew the other stitches would not work. So this was great!! I signed up for Roselle Tee Kal which is WAY WAY over my abilities but it was worth it as I'm learning so much anyway. I might never have the tee but oh well!!

    This is very helpful. I'm a combination knitter and learned the basic decreases, but this is the most comprehensive explanation I've seen. Thank you! One thing I've been trying to figure out is whether there's a shortcut for K2TOG in eastern mounted stitches similar to a 1 step SSK in western knitting.

    • @PattyLyonsKnitting
      @PattyLyonsKnitting  5 років тому +2

      There is not need for a one step right leaning decrease for combination knitters because the WHY of what it’s fixing is not needed. Really key into the why of a fix to understand it. It’s to solve the issue of the loose top stitch (stitch #1) because the next stitch you knit (stitch #3) only tightens the stitch underneath. For a right leaning decrease when you knit stitch 1 & 2 together it’s #2 that’s on top, so it’s tightened by st #3.

    Super helpful. The only thing that I found a little confusing: when you are purling back at the end of the video, you are actually not purling eastern style, so you are not showing it the way most eastern or combination purlers would have done it. My guess is that many people who combination knit, do it because the purl is so much easier, you just push the yarn through the loop, without the forward flick of the indexfinger. Much faster, much less strenuous on your hands. (I am sure people wouldn't hate purling so much if they learned continental purling in the eastrrn style).

So l can use Chiaogoo red lace or other cables from Chiaogoo for my S - HiyaHiya! I did the same with each 2 adapters of L So l can use L to S and if l want S to Mini, too and can use from 2,75 mm to 10,00 mm HiyaHiya and Chiaogoo with the same fantastic Chiaogoo - cables, specially the red lace cables l do love all the time!You can use S an mini cables from HiyaHiya ,too , for Chiaogoo - needles without changing anything!!! Great, isn't it? HH has got coloured cables in light blue so they can bee seen better!The HH - adapters l had to dremel the first 2 screwing - rounds away, too! It needed every adaPter 5 minutes, all 4 together nearly 20 minutes, that was wotrth it! I love to make things fit to make things easier! So happy knitting! Do you tell me the branding of your needlese, please? Be blessed!

I hatet to need boild water to uncurl the cables and with the Chiaogoo cables that problem doesn't exist anymore!!! ;) Do you give it a try? It's worth it! After l dremeled a lot now l began to demel at the needles directly. But that's expensive if not done pretty well. An adapter is cheap…to learn and to use all the time…Why not? I love it!

      This is a video for people that knit differently then many American knitters. There are many ways to knit and much of the world's knitters creates the knit and the purl differently then Western knitters, but patterns are all written for Western knitters. If this doesn't apply to you, don't worry about it, this video is not for Western knitters.

    I guess I am not of the norm-I am an "Eastern" knitter for my knit stitches , but "Western" knitter when it comes to my purl stitches. It was the way I was taught when I was a young girl by a family friend.

    • @PattyLyonsKnitting
      @PattyLyonsKnitting  5 років тому +2

      Are you sure??? An eastern knit stitch wraps the yarn over the needle and it would put the leading leg in the back on the next row, so to purl you would then have to enter the back loop and if you wrap over the needle (Western) that would put the leading leg to the front for the next row. So, if you are combining this way you'd knit through the front loop and wrap the yarn over the needle, then purl through the back loop and wrap the yarn over the needle. For more information on your knitting method and how to adjust, you can go to my website and order "Improve Your Knitting" - pattylyons.com/dvd-and-digital-class-order-form/
